Gift Baskets?

We have hot food, deli, cheese, fresh bread for starters. I generally put in easy nibbles, munchies, treats, drinks. Often I'll use a lasagna or something similar as a base in the chosen container... then I'll build on that. I try to ensure something for the family in the gift.

I just read this thread...it is prom week. We do gift baskets year round and have a web site devoted just to gift baskets. We ship them all over the country and actually around the world if requested (although it is not cheap).

Our best sellers are, in order, sympathy, thank you, get well. We do use baskets but we also use tins, wagons and many other items. You can also make a gift pack with no container at all.

There are several forums for gift basket companies but there has been alot of change there in the last year or so and there are not currently, in my opinion, any that are strong like FC. Used to be but not currently.

Well I hope its ok for me to say this but I started an organization on 4/1 because I wanted to really uplift the gift basket industry. I'm hoping to really make a big difference and so far, its going great. We're going to officially launch on 5/13/09 (my birthday) and are adding members now. I'm on a mission!! It's more than a forum though...

I LOVE this environment. It's my first day and its really, really great.

Ah yes... another addicted FC victim fast approaches. ;)

Debbie I'm sure you're familiar with Flora Brown's newsletter. I receive that one regularly as well. I generally find gems.

We do gift baskets, not a lot, but some. Again our "baskets" may be handmade Appalachian baskets made exculsively for us by our "mountain man," toy trucks, wagons, wire baskets, metal containers, bowls, bags, flower pots, or whatever works for the occasion. Sometimes the customer is very interested in the container, and sometimes he could not care less.

We send a lot of goodie baskets to the hospital for families of the sick person. We also send plates/trays of cookies and boxes or plastic (similar to Tupperware) containers of cupcakes.

We make specialty baskets for gardeners, bird watchers, dog and/or cat lovers. We make baskets for new babies and for new moms/dads. We keep toiletry (bath, etc. items) all of the time.

If there's a request for a basket, we'll make it.

our customers like the big is better deal. they want more product instead of a few high end items so we shop with this in mind.

Yeah, I can't imagine a recipient complaining about a "junk food" basket, with cheap-eats... fritos, chips, cheese doodles, nuts, candy... EVERYONE loves junk food!

With all inexpensive items, you can make a huge basket full of goodies.

We don't carry any of the main stream munchie items. By the way I never refer to anything as "junk". I did it once and the customer was put off by it... now it's munchies and treats and stuff we don't eat every day. ;)

By giving it a special moniker, you elevate the value in the eyes of the buyer.

Love the private labeling - its exciting. We do a little of that too and its well received. Another thing is printed ribbon. Not sure if florist have the Howard Imprinter for ribbon but our customers love it. I can give you some details on it if you're interested. Its super empowering.
