Beautiful work.....The FD has a problem with it's size????
Have never encountered that drama before! Perhaps just mention that you are designing to the CUSTOMERS specs???
Jeebers! nothings easy even when yer dead!!
no disrespect intended .....
silly ol' FD!!

LOL... Lazy and silly "ol'" Funeral Director.

He or she who does the paying, does the saying... even at the Fun house... where rather large sums of money change hands!

Funny, I've always thought it important to please the person handing over the money.

Of course....when we fetched the casket spray, and added another 10 roses, just after this pic was taken, the FD thought we were going to revise the size of it DOWNWARDS, not knowing that we were "upsizing" it, to the customer's specs, and when I re-delivered it, I placed it right on the casket, and offered to move it to the burial site, after the service, and before the family got there, BUT, the FD had her nose in a "knot" and would not work with me.
So, how bizarre is THAT??

$575. here in west preppy Houston !
Mickey was it the receptionist or the actual FD?
Knowing it being that large and would have some FD negatives, I would of called ahead explained this needed to be handled like you suggested... taking it the extra step to the burial site.

Very nice piece, by the way!

Our FD is the most amazing man. He loves anything different, loves waterfall, loves hi-style. He will work with whatever we bring him and if he does have questions or placing questions, we do what we want with it. He gladly lets us arrange on or in casket and some input as to what pieces to place where. It is wonderful to work with someone who enjoys flowers and their esthetic quality they bring to the viewing area. BUT don't send an improperly balanced vase or urn as he will voice his opinion. He even told one "florist" to take their spray back and finish it one time!! Will dred the day he sells to someone else and is no longer here. Mikey, upgrading the spray as the customer's request is the way to do business. The FD should also work at pleasing the one paying the $$$ and maybe she needs to remember that. IMHO, of course. (In over 30 years, I have had to remind an assistant that the family ordered the flowers and they deserved to get what they wanted-where they wanted-and not to dump out ALL the water)

That's what I'm used to as well Rhonda. We always felt the flowers enhanced the entire look of the visitation... the casket etc.

When I first started doing funeral work, the director told me to remember the drape of the flowers... he loves design.

Just out of curiosity... are the Canadian price quotes in Canadian$ and the U.S. prices in U.S.$?

Joe

Mine was Canadian...........but the exchange rate dosen't make much difference now once we take out the g.s.t.

Mine too and ditto to John. :) I am assuming everyone quoted in their own currency.

Mikey,

We would charge $350.00 for this casket spray. It's a beauty! This is the first time I ever saw the ribbon printed...it is awesome! Our customers often request special wording on ribbon and we just write it out with a gold pen...I've always hated the look, even though we print their messages well in block letters. This machine looks like it is well worth the investment!

Mikey, you should ask Italo for a cut on your next ribbon shipment witht he advertising you did here. I know you would'nt since you are that type of nice guy.
As for the FD I would say that is what the customer asked for and that is what they get. My casket sprays covers the unopened space with no problem. I have no problem with Fd in my area. I don't tell them their job and they don't tell me my job.
Tell them they did a @@@@ty job getting the person ready and see their response.....
If they can handle a person that weighs more than a casket spray, they should have no problem handling your spray.

Having first hand knowledge of what "dead weight" is, Luc you are right on the money.

Sometimes It Helps To Listen!

A few years ago when the small car thing started, one of our funeral directors pointed out that his new herse was shorter from floor to ceiling! Together we measured the clearance from the casket to the top of the herse, and the door. The result was that we had to shorten ALL of our casket sprays by 4 to 6 inches, but it made him a happeir camper!

Thats ironic considering humans seem to be longer and wider than ever.

Exactly what I was thinking! A smaller hearse makes not much sense to me.

If You're Old Enough To Remember

most herses were Cadillacs, and quite tall and spacious inside. Now they can be most anything, and much less inside space and much closer to the old station wagons you don't see too much of either. Go figure? Funeral directors buy gas too!

Clark,we had one of those Cadillac hearses... it was old and reliable. We made a run in it to Maine one weekend to get Mrs. Vance to her final resting place (she didn't like to fly).

After it died he leased a new one... but the floral logistics didn't have to be altered in any way.
