You can really get some large size arrangements using the Grande bricks and Designer blocks from Smithers Oasis. Just make sure you let them soak well as sometimes the bigger blocks can develop an air pocket if not fully soaked. If I have to use them for an arrangement....I let them soak overnight. However, If I get an order for a large scale design same day that I need one of the grande brixks and/ or designer block.....I always have one fully soaked and wrapped in a sealed plastic bag to keep in the water/ moisture.

The trick to "full soaking" is to fill the bucket first, then float the bricks and let them sink by themselves. Do not push them down, or pour water over them, thats what creates the air pockets...

But of course you all knew that already..... right!

Even with float soaking.....It doesn't happen often, but because the blocks are solid without the soaking holes to aid intake......The occasional airpocket will still occur.

Another thing that my old employer did that is incorrect, is she always tried to re-use a previously soaked brick of oasis that had dried out. I always told her that once Oasis has dried out, that it cannot be re-soaked, but she persisted.

We have a florist in our town who does this, We asked to borrow an oasis heart form once and when we picked it up it was a used one!!!

Yep...can not re-use it...another thing too, I have seen folks try to re-use Oasis that has not dried out, but has been poked full of holes...some of the stems hit those holes, and when they are not completely under the water line, those stems do not get water.

Someplace around here I have our old Oasis soaker, it was a plastic doo-hickey that has 3 chambers, with a hose hooked to it to connect to the faucet. You pushed it onto a block, turned on the water, and soaked them one block at a time....

Never mind---I'm not that old--- ;)

Actually, Lugwig Wet Foam will soak up water a second time. If you've never used this great product, I do recommend it. You'll never go back to another brand.

help!!

I am lost on this board I can't seem to find the place where I can post a new thread, can someone walk me though it.. thanks so much~Tracy:eek:

Tracy, easiest way is to go to the top of the page...see the folder?
click on FlowerChat Community - by RKFdomains.com and it will take you to the index page showing all the categories and threads. Click on a category and at the top it will show "New Thread"....You can then start a new thread.
Hope that helps :)
