...I am doing it again. This time with an American OG/DOG, and THIS example is *truly* odious...

http://www.rosemontfloral.com/tf8-1.htm

$54.95 for 6 peppermint carns w/ greens in a basket? PUH-LEASE! Now, please, Philly, spare me the "if-it-was-my-site-I-would-come-punch-you-in-the-mouth" crap-ola...it's not the specific site I am focused on more the WS thievery. We have a 3000-page-or-so thread with "gotcha OG/DOG", here...why not a "gotcha WS" too, for those of us who don't see any difference between the two (probably because there is none)??

And, Cathy, I *SWEAR* I will find an example of a local non-affiliate showing something beautiful and loaded with value!

Questioning 'business as usual' and highlighting perceived weaknesses in our sector makes us all think. But - is it possible to have these discussions without picking on individual shops? Not the first time and I sure hope it's the last. :(

Guess it wasn't the last. This is the site of our good friend and long time floristboard flowerchat contributor. About as far from being a DOG as it comes. Bad Mark. Did you happen to notice in your rush to slam that she is a real brick and mortar? You're picking on the wrong person here. Someone who is very involved in making the industry better. WTF is deceptive about this listing? That basket has 24 carnations in it, 8 bunches of 3. Puh-lease is right. Teleflora has it priced ast $49.95 plus service charge. And those carns are pink, it even says so. There is just too much wrong with this supposed example.

Okay I know I'm asking for it, suppose I'm next. But I'm not sure you're making any points for this...

Mark, I gave you a good suggestion if you want to pick on pricing go hit a couple of the no extra charges we deliver free sites where you'll find examples of real high pricing. But then again, I don't think you understand how fill to value works, apparently. In my world, no matter what the picture shows, you send me more, you get more. You send me less, you get a reject or a forward. I don't "do the best you can" with undervalue, but I'm proud to put my name on something that got oversold.

Is overselling any kind of problem really?

What is your point? Are you like accusing someone of dishonesty? I'm curious what our other flowerchat posters say about this.

opinions vary

Mark....Take a pill..................look at this arrangement again, the carns are doubled up in pairs and it's an all around arrangement with 24 carns!!!!!!!

...*maybe* 18 carns, at 0.12 each with a basket?? For $54.95??? No way...pure scam...

There's 24, you ever seen carnations that big? Since you don't have a recipe book and apparently are having trouble counting..there are 8 bunches of 3. Use a calculator.

Who you accusing of scamming? I guess that's a dumb obvious question.

You sell carns for 12 cents each? Are you saying we should post our wholesale prices and let consumers perhaps pay what they like? This is downright silly, dude. You're very off base in your attempts to demonize wire service arrangements. And more off base in not being able to discern what is in them or how much they should sell for.

DOG was a bad term to use here for one of our long time respected members who never engages in controversy and always posts nothing but helpful information.

Mark ... that's about enough of this crap. Before trying something like this again take some time to check your facts! Look at the florist and people involved, try to actually get the recipe these prices are based on ... your last two attempts are the only "odious" thing involved. My advice is to stop making lame attempts at exposing what you don't understand, and to spend more time doing what you're so good at - marketing your shop to your customers and increasing your sales.

Carns ....

0.12 each ......... I wish ........... I'm from the east .... almost as far away from the growers as Newfoundland is .... and I'm not big enough to ship in by the case ... so I'm with the majority .... as well the arrangement is 10" x 9" ... can't be done with 6 carns.

FYI-that site is a friends and there is no way in he$$ in Maine you're going to find any carnation for .12.
As of last week from two of our wholesale trucks carnations were .34-.43 and the worst quality ever seen. I know Erlene buys from other wholesalers but one of my truck wholesalers is located in her city. The average price of a carnation here in Maine rarely falls below .29 ever. Even so, she is pretty much right on or just slightly above her areas competing shops.

Mark -

You have no idea how off-base this thread is. I'm on my way to work and have no time to answer fully right now but Bloomz post speaks for me.

Speaks for most of us I would guess.

The arrangement is fair in price and value.

V

Mark, I visited your site to see what we're comparing, but I was unable to see anything except Christmas... is your page down? Thanks.

V

Eh?

Dude, Erlene is a doll and as real a florist as the rest of us. Uncool.

There you go again.....

Accusing and seeing things that wrong way. Put your glasses on.
I can't get carnations at .12 cents here neither.

I am not sure of your motto, but it sure is not nice what you are doing.

EVERYONE PAYS for product and shipping at different level.

If your shop can make it cheaper than go right ahead.

Some of us at least wants to make a decent living.

Factor in, mortagage or rent, electricity, gas, wages, repairs, color repairs, stock, and so much more and the price is not over price.

I don't like these accusation....

Gosh, thanks for all the positive comments everyone. I wish I had time to reply more thoroughly to the post but I'm involved in a two day bridal show this weekend. Had to come to the shop to print more literature after the first evening was over....handed out way more brochures and flyers than I expected. Always a good thing.

By the way, for anyone interested, the HP2600n color laser printer is $299 at Staples (or was this past week anyway). Comes with 4 full ink cartridges. You get the printer and cartridges for less money than buying the 4 cartridges individually.....

Got to go now, need to be at the show bright and early.....the Erlene bird catches the worm you know :)

Erlene? DOG? hmmfff!

I need to add another comment to this thread...

After being allerted to the accusations regarding Erlene's pricing, I feel compelled to reply -- that was an unfair post.

She's what we proudly call "A Professional Florist"...

Hey 12:

I just checked my website. I didn't even know I had it until you started this thread. I have it listed for $45.00, this is TF's SRP.

For what it is worth, the arrangement appears to be 11 pink carns (scale it to the galax leaves) in a 4 or 5 inch willow basket.

Given my current costs for carnations and that particular basket, I figure I would have about $5.00 in COGS. At $45.00, I would say that it is too expensive, especially if you consider a customer could purchase a dozen roses for $50 from me.

12, I would caution you to be very careful commenting or editorializing about other florists' and their websites. There could be legal issues imposed on you and the owners of this forum.

Joe

Actually Joe, if you read the description (carnations are grouped in nosegays) there are more than 11 in the arrangement.

V

I am going to have to look at the workbook on this one, but it still appears (on my website ) that there are 6 carnations pictured. I figure the other side has 5. I really don't see two carns smooshed together because "each carn" appears as only one.

You maybe right...it is hard to tell from the pic.

Joe

Victoria

Could the term "grouped in small nosegays" refer to a each carn surrounded be two or three galax leaves?

Like I said I will check the workbook in the morning when I get to the shop
