when we DO meet up...am I extraordinarily "LOUD" ??
It seems that either my hearing is going, and I need to "compensate" to hear myself, or as I age, my voice is becoming naturally louder??
This IS a serious question..I've met a lot of you here...can you tell me true please??
Mike:confused:

Louder? I don't think you're any louder than when I first met you :)

I would never describe you as soft-spoken, but it's your out-going nature that makes you "Mikey The Flower Guy!"

The only thing I'd worry about is age toning you DOWN (hasn't happened yet!).

No joke, Mikey, get the hearing test regardless of what people say. Both my father and I have hearing damage and it's more serious than you think. I'm a firm believer that everyone should get an exam.

Audra
Who hears Mikey just fine.

Tall man, little voice....nope...:)

Tall man, big voice....yes...a very nice voice.

Get the test anyway. I don't find you too loud either.

Mikey, I thought it was just that sound travelled better in polluted air!!! :)

What did you say???
Coming loud and clear here but if you have problem hearing, get it checked or is your hearing on low hearing because of Sandie???
Sometime you do sound loud, but its in your nature to be that way.

; ) See, we're agreed. You sound like Mikey. Get the test, take care of yourself lest you end up watching tv with closed captions (oh the typos) and have to take sign language classes like yours truly.

GET THE TEST!

Audra, did you take sign language classes?

I took seven classes and ended up hiring a girl that was deaf.

I always wanted to learn sign language but never did and then I went to Florida one time with my friend and met a deaf girl that lived near where we were staying. I saw her everyday but the communication was heavily lacking so when I got home I signed up for a class.

I never wanted to become an interpreter or anything, I just wanted to be able to communiate with deaf people. It helps to know it when they come in the store, too.

My teacher (all 7 classes) was deaf, that was cool! She used to take us out to eat and we all had to pretend we were deaf. Also the library once. It's not easy to pretend you're deaf. It's doubley not easy to get your point across to hearing people. It's absolutely next to, but not, impossible to keep your mouth shut when people say rude things about your group (or you) and they think you can't hear them. Oh man, people are rude!

Hiring the girl that was deaf was really neat, too. She was such a sweet girl, too bad she moved up north. She was a blast to work with.

My husband even took a couple of the classes with me. What a sport! We were just dating at the time.

Personally I think they should add to or change from spanish having American Sign Language a required class starting in grade school. I sure wish the six years I was forced to learn spanish I had learned sign language. It is tons more useful in this country. Most of this country anyway.

Well, I saw your comment that I think said you learned sign language and I got all excited. Sorry for the ramble.......

Patty:scooter: Varoom...varoom.................

Haven't taken the course yet, I'm a lip reader for the most part.

I'm looking at taking one in the near future, as is my husband. My hearing isn't going to get better, my dad is going deaf. I think it's a handy skill to have.

Audra

Knife...Thanks for making me giggle before bed. :)

LOL. I'm deaf, not computer illiterate or without netiquette skills.

The problem with any spoken language is that, no matter how long you take it in school, you never really learn it until you live in a country that speaks it and you are forced to use it.

I'm glad I was "forced" to take other languages in school. While I am no longer fluent in French or Spanish, I can certainly get by when I'm travelling...funny, when in Florida a few years ago, my Spanish came in very handy at a remote gas station. :)

Sign language would be a great thing to know as well...but any hearing impaired friends or acquaitances I had, read lips...all I had to do was enunciate and speak a bit slower. :)

and TO Audra....

"And from Audra...
"Live Your Life So That When You Die, the Preacher Will Not Have to Tell Lies at Your Funeral"

I think I'm in trouble then......I wish I had known....
Ryan said I'd be forgiven!!

You and me both, Mikey. That's why I'm going to pass on the whole 'funeral' thing and go straight to shake'n'bake. I want them to dump my ashes in the ground and plant a tree over me - I prefer that to being part of a granite orchard.

Been to more than enough family/friend funerals to last me three lifetimes. The problem with being from a big family is that the funerals seemingly never end.

I have enough French and Italian to get by. I've always gotten by with lip reading but we have several deaf customers that end up having to write everything down because they don't lip read well. Being able to sign would have that added bonus.
