Watching the West Cost feed but already tipped off about the winner by my East-Coast-Feed-watching daughter. More about the results in a minute...

Can there be a better live band than the Black Eyed Peas? I kept telling Rosie that there was no way Fergie was singing with them in 'Boom Boom Pow." The voice was powerful, raw and rich. Yet there was Fergie singing live tonight and she literally made me drop my jaw. Smashing. I wanna see them perform live. Now. I also want her shoes.

Queen Latifah. Good gravy. She has 'it'. Big girl, big attitude, big voice and all in a spandex bodysuit. When you can deliver, you can wrap it any way you like. Just Fabulous.

KISS. OK, so I finally admitted to Rosie that I went to 3 KISS concerts in my younger years - all while jumping up and singing with the TV. (Adam was fine singing with them but that 'Beyond Thunderdome' costume was just... um... silly.)

So Rosie tells me Adam announced he was gay last night on the show (I missed the broadcast so I'm taking her word on it) and that most of the girls in her school class 'decided' that Chris Allen should win since, as one of them put it, "I could at least have a chance with him." (Gotta love and wonder about the 12 year-olds and their brains these days.) Rosie was incredulous. "How can the change their opinion just because he says he's gay? He's still the best singer."

I'm stunned at the outcome. Gay, straight or anything in between, Adam Lambert can flat sing - and way better than anyone else this season - and he surely will be a wildly successful performer.

America got it wrong for the wrong reason. Ironic Queen performed in the finale. Freddie Mercury was one of the most popular performers of his time - for his voice. Too bad the best voice didn't win.

I think you on spot on with your thoughts in this post.

What I noticed was that you either loved or hated Adam. Technically, he was probably the best singer they have ever had on and will have a great career because of all the exposure.

Friends in my ago group didn't like him or his music to much. I was one of the few that appreciated his talent.

So, what about Dancing with the Stars? I can't believe that Gilles lost. The winner really was good, but, Gilles had the whole package. What happened with that voting?

um Carol, I think they were smoking crack.

My poor Gilles. They should make a new show called "Shannon Dancing with Gilles" :)
yeah baby!

As far as the American idol thing I lost interest at about week 5. I usually do. Last year I watched all the way until the end. The main reason last year was I just could not stand David Cook.......at first. But his talent blew me away. It was more than his singing, his arrangements, the lighting all of it was more and more brilliant each week.

So see, I can be flexible. :) I do change my mind sometimes.

This year I was more into dancing with the stars. I also think that Melissa is a very good dancer, I also thought that that country singing guy and blond girlfriend dancer was a really good team and way under appreciated.

Totally 100% agree with Cathy on this. If Adam was a contender in Canada, he woud have won hands down, whatever his sexual orientation. He can and DID sing better than anyone else all through the season. Allison was a close second. She must have been totally thrilled to sing with Cindy....and it showed. Adam was fantastic with KISS. He should have done his finale with Queen....alone. JMO.

Regardless of all that it was a treat to see so many awesome performers tonight - I would have LoVed to be in the audience.

Rock on...and again....

Yeah - Gilles was wronged, too! Can't believe he and Cheryl didn't win. (But several of my girlfriends mentioned how they don't like Cheryl. Go figure?)

Makes me wanna give up watching reality TV. ;)

Shannon - I liked David Cook way better than the manufactured teen from last year.

As to this year, just think of Jennifer Hudson and Chris Daughtry - whose careers have far eclipsed the 'winners' in their years.

Two upsets for sure.

In the Adam/Chris thing, I thought it was a case of viewers voting for the underdog, thinking that he didn't have a chance against Adam because Adam had it all--the voice, the stage presence, the look, the blessing of the judges.

I watched all of American Idol last night, but apparently missed Adam's coming out. If he only came out last night, how did that affect the voting?

Well I was one of the people that like Kris better. I told my wife about 4 weeks ago that I thought he was going to win. I think Adam was very good but he is a pretty specific type of artist. You either like him or you don't. I would never listen to his music. Kris however is much more contemporary. If his music came on the radio, you might not listen very closely but you probably would not turn him off either. Plus, lets face it, Adam did not have the straight male vote, nor probably a lot of the straight female vote but Kris had it all. The girls loved him. He's straight so the straight guys could vote for him and the gay men probably think he is hot (or so my wife tells me).

Nope, not surprised at all at the outcome.

Jim, you're right this is why Kris won... he's more bankable in the main stream, middle of the road, white bread music genre.

I was not shocked at the outcome (disappointed yes) of Idol or Dancing. I think it has more to do with the caliber of the talent from beginning to end. Shawn worked hard, Gilles already had it. Adam already had it, Kris had to work hard.

Also, Adam will now be free to do what he wants to do. Kris will fade after his year as an Idol.

By the way, I would dearly love to see Adam front Queen for a full concert... that would be hot!

Also, I'm pretty sure Adam came out a long time ago... and again, who cares.

People seemed to vote for. . . .

the kid nextdoor. (dancing or idol)

Instead of the Rockstar.

Where can I get me some Guyliner?

Jack Bauer gets my vote.

This season had the most talent by far. The finale was fantastic!

I watched the whole show too, and didn't know Adam "came out". He is the entertainer, and I'm sorry the judges discouraged that. The show was very exciting to watch week after week, just to see what Adam would do next. Personally, I think Adam would have fared better if he put on his "Elvis" look on Tuesday. Also, the producers/writers/American Idol really let him down for the juxtaposition they created of the "weird guy" with the "normal-next door neighbor guy".

After last night, I have a greater respect for Danny Gokey too...what a guy, and what a voice.

I watched Tuesday's show and never heard him "come out" A question was posed and he stated nothing specific, I do remember that.
And you can tell Rosie, Kris is married..... LOL
I believe that Kris got Danny's votes, plain and simple. Adam is an ultimate performer although I prefer his ballads to his screaming rock.
I didn't see KISS when I was doing the concert scene (or at least I don't remember that one) : )

Our house lost interest in Idol over the past few years. It seems to be manipulated by the idol corporation. All the pretty pretty people. Queen latifah would never had made the finals - she doesn't fit the mold. think susan boyle.

I think Steven Van Zandt has it right.

Matt Giraurd (sp) was from kalamazoo. He was lead off news at 10 (is that news???) almost every night.
Glad summer is here.

about the only reality tv I did watch was biggest looser when I remembered to catch it.

Comparing Adam and Chris, apples and oranges. I'm OK with Chris winning, he went into the competition with less experience, Adam was already a performer and had an advantage. I liked them both equally at first, but got turned off by the judges fawning over Adam, I'm not into the teacher's pet thing, and it's unfair to the other contestants.

Adam will become beyond famous if someone will create a broadway production and/or movie about the life of Freddy Mercury and cast him. He may very well do better than Chris in the long-run, we'll see.

The best ever IMO: David Cook, Bo Bice, Carrie Underwood.

Yeah such Heartache, When Danny Gokey got voted off, I cried, and I know as an adult, we shouldn't do that over a reality show, but for someone who is in a big way a supporter of things to do with Heart Problems, and he had brought so much awarness to folks about it, with the fact his wife had died, It truely was a sad moment for that fact alone, but I am hoping folks keep supporting our efforts, even though he is off the show, But I wanted Adam to win, but knew at 9am yesterday that he didnt broke my heart, But hey Adam will be a bigger star than him any who.. on e the Adam thing it came out back a few weeks ago..Love KISS as well,

I was rooting for Kris, liked his music better and I believed he is more marketable with different types of music. Adam is amazing and will do very well.
My favorite? Daughtry by a long shot....everyone else sings a bunch of canned garbage.
My only sadness is that Kris is going to have to record that awful, miserable " Idol" song. Ugh. I wish they would just dump that whole idea.

I too had an issue with the judges fawning all over Adam. The guy is very very talented, I agree, but I felt like some of the remarks that the judges made (especially Paula) got to the point where I felt like I was being told to vote for Adam because he was the only one worthy. Don't like to be told what to do...

And I agree that Kris picked up Danny's voters when he left. The good news is that now, if you make it to the top five, and you have true talent, your career will make a big leap from the exposure.

My favorites over the years: Daughtry, David Cook, Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Hudson. Love them all. Kris was good and showed a lot of growth over the season but my favorite was Danny.

Back on the final 10, I had predicted that it would be adam and danny or alison and Danny...I definately thought Danny was going to be the out and out winner because of his sad story, his obvious talent and his wholesome goodness that the bible belt just eats up....

I knew that Adam was definately the most talented and should win but his being gay and on the internet in drag, I knew he would not get the number of votes needed to win in the final....not all places in America ar as up on the whole gay community as the coasts, the more inland you go the more bigotry you see...and that will sway votes....instead of talent...I alos agree that Adam is a very specific type of artist and that itself lends its hand to a limited voting pool...

I had a hard time with Kris, I kept forgetting him every week...He is so white bread that he is boring....that being said the last 3 weeks he did amazing and his growth was seen...I can see how he surpassed Danny in effort and work alone...I think that this will be one of those seasons that produces a whole bunch of great artists whether they won or lost...

The show itself was absolutely fricken amazing....I have never seen such a show...so much talent just with all of that those kids are all winners even if they never sing another day in their lives...I do hope they know how mucky they were to have been involved in such a show...

I loathe that ridiculously sappy Idol song as well. That alone makes coming in second a win.
