If the WS POS was a non-issue, would you, could you?

If you could pay off and return your WS POS, would you fire the WS?

To my anonymous commenter.....obviously some care or there would be no response to the poll or posts to the thread. As much as I wish I could post about only what absolutely everyone cares about, I am not of those powers. If you don't find this information useful, don't utilize it. Save judgment for your own brilliant words of wisdom.....could you point me to them?

What else is out there?

My Merc X1 is paid off In Oct. There are many, many parts I like and Many I miss about my old Daisy. Unfortuneately, Daisy could no further after the Linux conversion or I would still be there. FTD and Mercury Has many issues they just can't seem to fix and I have been telling them about issues for over three years! But, now I own the equipment, know the system, what do I do , where do I go? What's out there, that doesn't rquire an entire new learning curve, will use all my present equpment, process my credit cards and free me from the wire services? Any suggestions?:

Lori, Dump the ws web site. Save monies on a monthly basis. Go to Stryder!! Better looking and saves $$$$$. Easier to use. One more reason to re-evaluate

Um no sir, no way and NOPE!

I installed Advantage, a text based system that runs on Linux, not Mercury 10.1 that Herb's referring to, that silliy thing uses WindoZ and a mouse.
"owned" by "rats" until paid for, with money AND blood (bloodmoney anyone??)

I WOULD NOT leave a wire service based on a POS system purchase, though I WOULD leave a wire service IF they hung a "Damocles sword" over my head saying that either I CONTINUE paying, or give up "perks", such as essential operating upgrades (not added value packages)!!
FTD has made a HUGE error in the way they rolled out Merc X, WITHOUT the steady influence of the rollout team, and they are LOSING their "support team" through attrition, and NOT replacing staff with people that have 'grown" with the system development team!!
This has been FTD's "last chance"...few IF ANY shop owners will turn to a wire service based system, in the future!!
Better to turn to the "Striders" for online expansion, and the Mas's & FloristWares of this world for TRUE florist shop growth potentials!!
We NEVER "risked" tying ourselves to a wire service POS, didn't even really come "close" to switching EXCEPT to FloristWare, and have re-written our Florist Information System (FIS) several times since the 80's, to adapt to the changing times.
We now can fax, email, and text messages, and reciepts to our clients, right from our POS, and it requires NO help from ANY wire service.
Declining wire service activity makes NO sense in "adapting" to THEIR "platforms", though, it WAS "worth it" when FTD was STILL the ONLY wire service that "allowed" open access!!
Those days are long gone...the existing wire service model is rapidly dying, TF "may" be the ONLY one left standing, in the short term!!
Good for them, BUT, as I've said before.....WIRE SERVICES do NOT "have your back"......anymore!!
Would I "fire" them......absolutely...for the above reason, no.

We have been using Flowersoft for several years now and absolutely love it. Heavy duty, text-based like RTI, Advantage, FAS and Daisy, very easy to use with all the bells and whistles you can [possibly want. Check them out at http://www.flowersoftusa.com

I was totally locked into the ws. Had my website, pos, creditcard processing, the whole enchilada. It has been over a year without them. I use floristware, have my website with strider, and process my credit cards through someone else.
Just on the credit card processing alone I save at least $100.00 a month.
Not to mention I can control all of the transactions and refunds through authorize.net.
It was a long haul, getting free and clear, and a little scary, but worth it.
It is better to be in control, than to be controlled.

Look at Floristware and Flower Shop Network - still no look up in a book - just a click of the button like with the WS POS - but no where near the costs.

Of course, this poll is a very small sampling but I think we can all understand that part of the WS strategy is to enslave you with the POS system. I never had a desire to get their POS when I was a member. I would love to see their contract and have a good consumer attorney look at though. I find it hard to believe that there is no way out. I completely understand large volume shops not batting an eye at such a huge financial commitment but I don't understand why smaller shops commit? I heard the whole pitch and the only thing ringing in my ears at the time was the huge amount of money and the long term commitment. I tucked my tail and ran.

This is a great thread, just had Tele sales here, demo the pos, funny how the numbers are not presented in the WHOLE picture. looked it over a few days later, The maintainence fees for 5yrs will be over $8,000?!!! YIKES, and the system is over $13,000, that's a big chunk of change. Already have a pos, ADS, no longer have maintainence, (knock on wood) it's over 8 years old, and I am finding it difficult to cough up the fees for service/main/ Credit cards are with our local bank, yup, good rate, better than the wire service! And guess what? They order flowers too! So I am looking for a POS since ours is old, but works great. I can't sign on with a wire service, where will it be in 5yrs? I don't want that hold. So any suggestions for a pos, have and will be appreciated.
