Not looking good... Gas is already up to $5.00 in place in Michigan, with stations saying it WILL be going up $1.00 at close tonight.

I have heard reports of $6.00 on the East Coast, with $10.00 possible by mid week next...

Mark, gas this morning here shot up .13/litre to $1.36.6 (about 5.48/gal).

Well CS is going to get smashed worse than Victoria it looks like. This evening we are expecting 70-90mph winds.

Just got off the phone with my room mate. Asked him if we needed to do anything special like board up a couple windows or move stuff around. His response was "no, that's what insurance is for. Just make sure to stop by the store to pick up some bread, ice, and 2 or 3 cases of [lonestar] beer". Typical :>

Looks like Victoria was spared.....(tried to call you yesterday Clay)...

Good luck to ya'll

Continued thoughts for your safe deliverance from Ike.

Gas in our area is almost in nonexistence, outrageous prices. I passed 7 stores on my way to work this morning, only 2 have gas. The town where my shop is has already gone dry. This is not for the economy. No gas, no flowers deliveries. No flowers, no customer deliveries. NO GAS PERIOD!

I know that there is a lot of devastation in Texas and have been praying for everyone there. Just hope things can get back to normal soon.

Price gouging is rampant here and in North Carolina. People went crazy yesterday, getting into fights over gas.

Are any of you experiencing the same things?

Most stations here are dry...no gas...oh well...

Last night there was a police officer at each station... "Keeping the peace"...

Yep, we dodged the bullit on this one. Besides Galveston and Houston, Beaumont once again got hammered. Bill Goodin (foam crosses, fish, etc.) has his business there and his wife has a flower shop....he was out over 2 weeks without power on the last Texas hurrican....and had serious damage to his house. I hope the Houston gals are OK.

Went up $.11/litre here...to $1.49.9 (about $6.01/gal)

Hmmmmm....wonder why you get it so cheap in Ontario far away from the source of oil, when we get "soaked" living in the province next to the boom???

Oh, that's right...we have a PROVINCIAL CARBON TAX...can't wait for the federal one "soon to follow"...

Spoke with Mlou...she is at her daughters house..no electric, phones etc...says a lot of damage around them...was able to drive over to her house but can't stay there...big trees down, flooding and now it is raining on top of a really bad night! They are not sure bout Renee's flower shop..they think it got damaged...the connection was poor but I think she was saying that one of the other tenants said there was quite a bit of damage to the shop. At least she and her family are ok..looks like a long haul for Texas...
God bless all of them...
Clay relieved you are ok too..how did CS do?

I'm sending happy thoughts and love to you all effected by this. I'm really happy that Marylou and Renee are Ok.

ditto the thoughts.

We just got visited with a bit of the Hurricane Ike about an hour ago as the storm moved through the midwest.

Lots of trees/limbs down, a damaged flower shop sign, flashing from a garage damaged, etc....

Haven't seen this type of wind in a long time!

Wow, Joe, that thing just won't die?! I wonder how my sis in Michigan is doing.

Clay, hope all is well. Just checking on you and others in Victoria. Let us know. Did you get to DMC for the show. We were there on Friday, with appointments we had made to get bakc to work on Sat. and Sun. with events. Spent a ton in 4 hours, but 90% is sold for Christmas decorating.

.

Thanks for all the good thoughts, phone calls and e-mails...

Renee and I are doing well thanks to her husband's planning...

Still no electrical repairs at my house, Renee's house, Renee's shop or my parents house... (heard a few minutes ago that Renee's shop may have power tommorrow, let's hope)

I'm on temportary power for my computer and dial-up internet connection (YUK). Comcast (TV and Internet provider) still has more than 75% of their customers with out power... CenterPoint (electrical provider) still has millions of customers without power. They are now saying it will be the 1st week of Oct before they can restore the major of their customers...

We have now heard from many Houston area florists and are posting info on the Allied website...http://alliedfloristsofhouston.org/ike-1.html

Need to run for now...will post when I can.

PS. my iLocalflorist email address is still down because the Comcast servers are down...you can reach me at [email protected]

I have no idea why it's different prices from town to town or even station to station... no matter the province. I have no idea why the price has dropped only .08 today after is was clear Ike didn't bring the threat to the gas prices banked on earlier (it skyrocketed at least .15 at the threat). I do know I would never want to be the "owner" of a gas station because they catch it in the neck with some regularity.

Thanks, mlou!

Thank you for the link to Allied Florists of Houston. I have been wondering how all my Houston friends were doing. Brenham had winds and some rain. (actually we could have used more rain) Lost a limb or two at home.
Glad to see the orphan squirrels are OK. Everyone I talked to had found soaked squirrels. Let me know if i can help anyone out from a distance.

Like Joe, we in Ohio had a visit from Ike Sunday. Never saw anything like it. Trying to get home from church had to take several detours due to downed trees. Got home in time before the worse hit. Had gusts of 70mph. Lost part of one tree, lost power ( which also meant water because we have a well ) but was blessed that was the worst for me. There was a lot of damage in the area and the greater Dayton, Cincinatti, Columbus areas were without power. We didn't have the rain, just the wind. I can only imagine what you folks in Texas went through! My thoughts are with you and hope you all are OK. Got home today and the power was back on in my neighborhood, but there are so many that still don't have it back yet. They predict that it will be Sunday before everyone has their power back. I was grateful that I was able to fill jugs of water at work to take home. Tomorrow is my day off and I will be clearing away all the branches laying around the yard.

I live to close to Linda. We just made like Marines and improvised. I cook a mean breakfast on the grill! They set up water distribution stations around town but our schools still have no power. The kids are loving it, but now they are bored cause there's no Playstation or DVD watching. The ONLY good thing about all this is that neighbor helped neighbor, food and water was shared, and everyone realized just how blessed we were that no one in the area was hurt. Things can be replaced and trees can be cut down, but a person can't be replaced! God bless anyone affected and prayers for safety!
