Honestly now - which florist on this board has not had a customer look at a pic and say: "I want that style, but in my budget." It's not a discount if they are ordering a smaller version.

Happens nearly daily!

So far Aron, IMHO, your plan needs some tweaking especially if you are going to send low end orders for which we get paid at about 70%...
Is it FTD or Bloomnet (I'm thinking Bloomnet) that when an order is under $29.99 the filling florist receives 100%?? I could be off on this point...

Aron,

I am going to ask some simple Yes or No questions and some rather pointed questions about yours and other OG's websites.

1) Yes or No, When you send an order TO A filling shop, Does the total amount YOU send INCLUDE a sufficient amount for delivery?

2) If you do NOT INCLUDE a sufficient amount for delivery, How do you transmit the dollars for the FILLING florist to cover the costs of delivery.

3) If your customer gives you a specific total amount.........Let's say for example that your customer says they do not want to spend over $25.00.........Do you add on the neccessary fees for handling and transmitting the order OR do you stick with his 25.00 total?

4) Understanding the fact that YOU as a businessman SHOULD generate a profit, and the FILLING FLORIST as a businessman SHOULD generate a profit, and the SENDING FLORIST as a businessman SHOULD generate a profit......How can association with you make this reality?

Aron, still wondering WHY you would even have an option to "down sell"?
Shouldn't you be training your sales associates to "upsell"...

Gathering all the incredably underpriced/unfillable orders you can, does not serve anyone well.

If your not going to upsell, then atleast don't perpetuate the idea that a customer can name any price point he wants to and get it!! That's why shops have minimums. I would not want to put my shops name on something I had to "cheap out" to fill.

It seems to me that you do not care about the filling florist reputation.

Don't know you, so don't take this too personally, but this "down selling" for lack of a better word is imbasilic. Spelling may be wrong but you know what I'm meaning.

Rhonda, I'm with you all the way!!!

Only time will tell if selling down hurts business. It's a brand new strategy and will have much more time to tweak it.

How about this, pick a few items off the site that are $25.00 to $30.00 and tell me what you would fill it for. And if you saw that a consumer lowered the price by $5.00 ask yourself if you could fill it for $5.00 less?

Three answers to the above:

1) Yes or No, When you send an order TO A filling shop, Does the total amount YOU send INCLUDE a sufficient amount for delivery?

That all depends on who is getting the order and what it's for? We think most of our items above the price of $39.99 are fillable. I have been out of the business for four years, after VD, we will be tweaking the prices, our goal is to not be a discounter, but may have to offer two or three clower end models to compete with pro flowers and fyf flowers.

2. If you do NOT INCLUDE a sufficient amount for delivery, How do you transmit the dollars for the FILLING florist to cover the costs of delivery.

Every shop has a way of configuring how much they should charge for delivery. If we don't meet that shops requirements, just tell us so and we will find a shop that will or add on enough funds to get someone to take it. We are not putting a gun to any florists head demanding they take any size order. The choice is theirs to make on their own.

You mean, you don't force florists to take your orders?

There are florists out there that are actually happy to receive orders?

hmmm

I think 800 has done this for a while. Here is a 199.99 Funeral basket with an option for 99.99. This is selling way down.

aron, I dont know you from a hole in the wall. I, at one time was a decent sender ( top 175) It's nothing but headaches and aggravation....As a sender, you are only as good as the shops that fill the orders. As you can see, unless your orders are all $350 and include an extra $10 for delivery, these filling shops will continue to bust em. Nevermind that you will be spending tons and tons of money, they just dont care...

This is why i gave it up...We cant even send out $50-$75 designer choice orders anymore...its always a problem...

Had a shop in texas reject an order on the day of delivery at 3pm after we sent it 6 weeks in advance.....Texas is by far the worst for sending anything too...Its not wonder that moron came from there.

Aron, I wish you good luck, you will need it...As for me, i am happy with my own little piece of the map and will never again advertise in any other state....It's an early death sentence..
