Ditto on the ???

With the inherant results of being the "only game in town" you get to make the rules....

Why would you take on the unnecessary added expense of membership, when you could hold out for 100% sales on every order? NOw if you have enough volume to need to be able to send electronically, I could perhaps see it, but in reality...they should be paying you...

Griff - No, I am the only florist in town. Some listings do still show the other one, but she retired over a year ago. You're right, I can't afford to be ANY wire service. We're considering taking the leap away from both, but just haven't bit the bullet yet. Very good facts you pointed out, and very true. There's just no profit on WS for the small town florist. Thank you!

Ivysue....you've already answered your question

So tell me, guys. Using your best math, how many outgoing orders per month should a florist send before considering a "sending system" provided by a WS?? Just curious.

Depends on the fees, etc. As we know, they can vary wildly. Assuming the $99 / month all-in offer, I'd go with 25 outgoing per month to be a member. The $4 rebate would cover the dues, so it's then a matter of commission in and out. Not having to call out 25 orders would save you about $25 in labour. There is also the intangible value of a paper trail.

Part of this equation is a personal judgement:
1) How much do I want/need to make for this to be worthwhile.
2) Do you want incoming orders? If so, how many?

Not everything breaks down into numbers.

Was that the Hopper dude Patty?

Still a putz in my book...a guy that'll say anything to get what he wants, and often, even when I/you know the opposite is true....

Yes BOSS - it was Hopper. I agree, he's is not trustworthy. He has given me two offers actually and both were really lame. I don't trust him at all.

WS Apparently have issues

WS, what a pain! I told both of them to bite me last month. I'm not flooding my shop with extra product to make one arrangement and I can still send orders out directly.
I say let the wire services die a slow painful death after trying to kill us for years. I'm tired of creating cookie cutter arrangements. We sold our souls and our design styles a long time ago for the almighty dollar and we still haven't made the money yet. I say we take our business back and boycott.
What is stopping us from creating something on our own?

A, NO! That too is Arbitrary!

Patti,

As far as I know everyone pays a deposit. I had to pay $200 when I joined in 1997. As I understand it, this is the lowest based on one's credit standing. There are some florists that have to pay much, much more. I was told by a florist once that they had paid a $2000 deposit.
Erlene

When we divested ourselves from the FTDI lability and rejoined Teleflora in May of 2001, after having been away from them since 1984, Greg Coccari (former CEO and the last florist friendly guy they had) waived our deposit requirement.

Sad fact is that, we were forced to divest ourselves from the Teleflora liability in 2007 as well since, what was the point in attempting to fill their DOT.CON JUNK ORDERS since, that was one of the main reasons we QUIT FTDI!

The only question you need to ask yourself if: WHY DO I WANT TO BE A MEMBER OF ANY WIRE SERVICE?

If your answer is: BECAUSE I WANT MORE BUSINESS?, then you had better take a real hard look at the kind of business you can expect to receive from them.

Accordingly and if you have no problem filling their DOT.CON JUNK ORDERS at a net net of from 54 cents to 50 cents on your dollars, with SRPs we haven't witnessed for over 25 years, and with recipes that will put your wholesalers to shame, then you are ready to make a pact with the devils.

Otherwise, concentrate on your own MARKET with your own customer's 100% SALES along with your own 100% SERVICE CHARGES, and your own WEB SITE, and let all of them SHOW YOU DA MONEY!

And, on the day that, any of these MIDDLEMEN SKIMMERS make an offer to PAY YOU $500 per month to fill their orders at 100% plus your SERVICE CHARGES, that's the day that, I would advise you to SIGN UP!
