I attended a Peter Lowe Motivational Seminar today. I am glad I did take a day off because more than ever it is important to look at our glass as being half full.

Some speakers today referred to the opportunities that the current market presents. That is not easy, but WE HAVE TO DO THAT.

So how about hearing from posters about positive actions they are taking to maintain their sales levels. Better to share positive ideas than comment on negative signs.

I am designing banners for our store front to remind passers-by of the values we offer.

I am promoting our website, its 24/7 convenience.

Started the "Kindness "Pay It Forward" Bouquet last week, still waiting for some feed back.

Never stop trying.

Tom, no matter how difficult the day, my glass is always three quarters full. And that's how I project myself when selling. It works.

I always think my glass is half full personally, business is good but even if it went down the pan, i would still have a very lucky lifestyle compared to others in the world. Health comes first for me.

With regards to positivity i agree that a positive attitude and a smile goes a long way when dealing with business and this in turn keeps you going:blowkiss:. Also continutally looking at products and marketing techniques and not just staying in a rut.

NIce thread - i like positive:tongue:

metric or imperial measures!!

I feel it depends on the size of your own glass, other peoples glass may be smaller and if you poured your half measure into their glass it may fill or overflow, thus people then assume that all is rosy in your world as they judge you by their glass measurements/size,envious or aloof, content with their lot or ever wanting something better.
So my glass is my glass(it's smoked glass)and the level varies from day to day,and only i can see it's level..as it's only relevant to me!!!

On a really bad day, it is not half full or half empty, someone else is drinking out of the glass!

Love that.

The power of intention.

The intention that my business is still growing and thriving in a down economy.

Make a list of what you intend for your business to be and post it where you can see it everyday.

MY glass...CANNOT be "emptied"......it's NOT in my nature to see the "negative" side of anything, OR ANYBODY......when I look "down" I see UP, upside down.

I love this thread because I believe you attract more of what you focus on. I am focusing on what positive things I can do rather than boo-hooing about the price of gas, the economy, etc. So, I'm in the process of starting/building a biz, "what are you crazy?" No, but I realize I have to be smart and adaptable. A lady I freelance for and I were talking yesterday about growing more things ourselves to sell...she has a huge garden and a really green thumb... hey if that is a few less bunches we have to buy that is more $ in our pockets. It's little things like that and more crafty ingenious (but always ethical!) things we have to do to survive. Hey we're creative people, that goes for more than just floral design.
:bouncy:
Being positive makes my day and the day of the people around me much better.

Lizi gave you an answer. Hope that answers your question.

Love the responses BUT it looks like just the OPTIMISTS responded.

Maybe the PESSIMISTS by nature would not respond.

The intent in the first place was in reaction to NEGATIVE comments. It is natural to get into a NEGATIVE mode because that's what people feed on. The MEDIA feeds on negative, not on opportunities.

If the MEDIA focused on OPPORTUNITIES maybe the general attitude/spirit of people would turn positive and we would start to talk ourselves out of the economic slump. Then wouldn't the media generate more revenue from advertisers?

I guess it is human nature to be negative.

Ask anyone "How are you today?" and count how many times their response is "Not so bad." My favorite responses are:

I'm fine, thank you, but what's important is HOW ARE YOU?

Another response I like to give is "I'm almost dangerous, thank you."

positivity

i can take positivity in small doses,

but as a way of life, i find it too confining.

it's just too needful

An optimist is a person who sees a green light everywhere, while a pessimist sees only the red stoplight. . . The truly wise person is colorblind.
Albert Schweitzer (1875 - 1965)

Negative feelings are a natural part of being human and must be accepted for what they are. It becomes a problem when all you feel and accept is negativity. I've banned those kinds of people from my life... they are too needy in my opinion.

We have a general manager... he is a negative. He doesn't get that you can't motivate with negativity.

Tom thank you for starting this post! It is wonderful to see others that are looking for creative ways to grow their business instead of the continual complaining about the gas prices, etc. etc.

I don't think it is human nature to be negative. I think it is a taught response handed down by the generations. Everyone has a choice whether to be positive or negative. If you have ever studied the Law of Attraction, then you know that what you think about, speak about, and dwell on, that is what you attract.

Negativity spreads like the fires in California! Why, because that is what people are used to. They feel comfortable in that forum much like how people are comfortable talking about the weather.

I am excited about what might happen in the future! I love, love, love, to find bargains (like the thread about the Dollar Tree) and love sharing ideas with others who are just as excited about their business.

As for growing our business, I belong to a networking group, BNI. I am also going to join the board for the Charleston Ballet. Getting involved in your community and being a part of giving will not only grow my business, it will grow my spirit.

My business partner and I also have plans to go out and visit other local businesses, especially those who can network with us such as hairdressers, jewelers, nail techs, etc. We are also working on a pet bereavement brochure and will be contacting vets, dog groomers, pet supply stores to see if we could place our brochures there for customers.

In this industry, the sky and your imagination is the limit that you can take your business. You need to have a business plan, focus on what you are grateful for and always be thankful in everything and everyone.

Good medicine Victoria, every once in a while I assess and 'clean my closet', so to speak, and purposely ignore or cut the ties to negativity around me, sometimes that has meant needy friends, you know the ones that drown you with their chronic sorrows every time you see them and then get envious and angry at your well being and happiness. Who needs it...Life is too short! Today is a great day.
