It is very important that we stay up to date with the design styles and products in our industry.I find Ubloom and J an asset to the modern designer and flower shop a great place to look for new ideas and inspiration as I have said in the past(and was taught to learn) you do not need to be better than your competition just different and I find so many tricks and design secrets from not only J but a lot of the designers on UBloom aka Tracy Park...Amanda Johnson...and many designers I am also proud to know here on Flowerchat. My advise be more open minded and optimistic in 2009 and my guess is you will be more profitable as well-Respectfully Brad

Thanks Brad I know I love Ubloom too. between here and Ubloom I have meant a lot of wonderful people!! I total owe my new technics and bussiness Approach to these two forums!! J has giving me a whole new Approach
to design..I also want to add it's is making me more money too.. Thanks to all of you~
they have giving me the boost I need~

Ok, I get what ya'll are sayin'....

I know J is a fantastic designer! I never meant to impugn his abilities, I hope it didn't come across that way.

He's definitely one of the best of the best!

Some of Jay's marketing is also to the non florist, your average person on the street that wants to do their own flowers, you have to be pretty basic with them. Beginners have trouble just doing a basic vase arrangement, and with so many gals wanting to do their own weddings, they have guidance for that now.

Do you guys REALLY think his work is over the top? Really?

I just don't see it that way at all.

I love him and his work, I just never thought of his stuff as over the top, Just really well designed, maybe I'm missing something, or maybe I'm over the top and don't know it... HA!

Over the top to me means stuff I can use.

Something we don't see often enough at design shows.

J is the best of the best.

Jay is very versatile, very humble, and is a true model of giving and sharing!
I think the girls like his bum......
Jay is the inspiration that is the"new" driving force within our industry, that is TRYING to get us out of the gutter, and INTO the enjoyment of this biz.
He has as much to offer as this business does, and works hard enough to PROVE IT.

Yep, that's my point! His stuff is very well designed and useful in an everyday flower shop environment, some of it is very grand scale though, maybe that's what they mean by over the top?

Anyway, He's good, easy to understand, mechanics are easy to apply, customers get his work immediately. No one ever looks at his work and says "What the hell is this?"

Hey J! Are you reading all of this??

J has a fabulous sense of the principles & elements of design and it shows in everything he does. Many of his designs I love purely for the inspiration. In my small town, people don't have the budget for many of the things he demonstrates on ubloom, but who cares? I gain something from everything he creates--even if it's just a small snipet. I love this week's episode with the submerged rose centerpiece. Do I think I will ever make it? Perhaps not, but, it made me think more about submerging flowers and the mechanics of it and also about the mechanics of making a ball-shaped tall centerpiece in a very easy manner. Who knows--the next bride that comes in may want this very thing!

I have to laugh because just about every piece he makes has to have that chartreuse green in it. I also enjoyed the submerged rose. Again probably won't ever get a chance to make it but enjoyed it. How much would you sell something like that whole design for?
