I just had a bride order the floral boa phf 76-11...
6 feet of boa or scarf of flowers.. she just loved it..perfect for her wedding..even though it costs just as much as her DJ ($429.99)

She knows it is only good for one day..but she will use it on her head table and dance with it..then going on a cruise..

Wish I had her life..oh well..at least I have her wedding flower order

No you don't...and miss all this fun?

Congrats on the sale!!

And you're right, we sold the Green Flower Cake table a few weeks ago... You have to show the stuff if you plan to sell it!

Sounds like you had a ball !!

As a beginner florist, may I ask where I can get the prom book ?
Can I order on line ?

Thanks

This book is by John Henry - they post on here if you search for them. I THINK it is jhc.com but I am not sure. Some of the wholesalers also carry the book.

It is great for new ideas.

You can purchase online, and yes, the site is www.jhc.com. The cd with the web images is NOT on the website though.

They were already promoting and selling the new wedding book/cd set and didn't have that on the site either. That is there now.

That book is amazing! For the second year in a row for prom, I will definitely sell a whole box of stephanotis for corsages. This year I may need two boxes as prom is still 2 weeks away and I have sold them all! It definitely gets people thinking of the possibilities!

Funny that you should mention that!

That book is amazing! For the second year in a row for prom, I will definitely sell a whole box of stephanotis for corsages. This year I may need two boxes as prom is still 2 weeks away and I have sold them all! It definitely gets people thinking of the possibilities!

I just resolved yesterday to order stephanotis for next year's prom. We've had several customers who liked that corsage (all steph) from the JH prom book, but made another choice when I told them that we would not have the steph available. :hammer:

Because of our prom gallery page (this April's Web Wise in Floral Management), we get calls and e-mails from all over the country asking if we can ship the corsages, or have them wired. We don't do either--we try and find them the numbers of some local florists, and tell the customer to ask if the florist has the Prom and Homecoming Flowers book. If you have this book, let it be known in your community.

We even get calls from florists asking if they can use our images. Too bad we don't get a commission for each book sale we've referred to JHC...

It's funny because the instruction book says that corsage contains 10 steph. 10 steph! My kids probably would not want to pay for that so we usually go with five. The last one I quoted also wanted a little delphinium and something pink so hers is going to run $35-$40. They didn't even care! I'm in a small town (pop. 2000) and am totally amazed at how the price doesn't matter so much anymore. A mere 7 or 8 years ago, the parents complained if they went over $15 and the $20 mark was unheard of! Back then, of course, I could order red and white sweets, red & white roses, maybe yellow and that was it! My list is really growing and that's one downfall to all these new ideas! Everyone wants something different and I find myself having to order a bunch of flowers for one stem. Luckily the gerb trend is continuing. My wholesaler is willing to send only what I need and not a whole tray of colors I don't need. Talk about service!

We offer a "Classic Favorite" for $22.99, but more and more promettes are choosing upgrades of pearls, rhinestones, feathers, and you-name-it. We're even adding small playing cards into one wrist corsage and the accompanying bout. (Prom theme is Las Vegas). We sell lots of the Corsage Concepts rhinestone and pearl bracelets. We have the Fritz bracelets for sale, but have not sold any of them yet. It is not unusual for these teens to spend $40-$50, and parents can sometimes be there to urge the teens to add more. Fascinating! The JH prom book just adds more and more ideas.

Cha-Ching. We need an appropriate icon for Cha-Ching.

Wow! I am thrilled to see the feedback on the JH Prom and Homecoming Book! I was lucky enough to be one of the designers (along with J Schwanke) on that book. I'm really happy that it is working for some of you.

Just think, those kids buying prom flowers are potential customers that will buy and think of flowers differently from their parents for many years to come! If they'll spend $50 for a corsage what will they spend on a very special birthday, anniversary or just thinking of you floral gift? And what about those weddings?

Not too mention it's just plain fun creatively!

I'm thrilled too! It's very exciting to hear that the book is continuing to work for florists in a very positive way. Thank you to everyone who has posted their positive results using the book. Here's to a great prom season for all!

Prom flowers need to be marketed as enhancements to the dress, not just flowers!

We are a small town, too. Very rural. Parents don't bawk at $300 plus for a dress used one time or a $150 tux rental, but they don't like to fork the money over for flowers. They still bawk here at $20 corsages.

I love the JH Prom book. We wrote the prices right in it, so they know that if they're going to request it, they can't haggle the price. It's in writing. We still get the "I want one carnation in white for both the corsage and boutonniere", but we are starting to get a few more "exotic" ones.

I think having a booth at the local bridal and prom show helped. We had corsages created in silk with all the lights, wires, and blitz, so they could see what they could order down the road. And the upside is that they were in silk so we can reuse or update for next year!

Thank you John Henry

We just finished our first of the season prom and using some of the ideas and pictures in the book/cd, I have to say it was the most successful one we have ever had..started offering our basic wristlet and added a band at 5 more and bling at 5 more...average sale was 44.99 and they loved each one...sold 27 late arrivals yesterday...eveyone hands were sore at the end of the day.Just can't get my designers to glue but come the next prom, the glue tubes/can will be on each desk...since it is the week following MD, I might just get their attention but thank you again for thinking outside the box and bringing us some new ideas ! The kids did not find these items in the big box stores!!!! cha-ching cha-chiing...one of favorite sounds!

Yep the JH book worked well....

We just finished our biggest Prom, two combined high schools into one prom because of boy friend/girl friend issues...

Our average sale was lower than your's Sher, about $37.00 or so, but we did over 250...all hand wired!

wire and tape

Well, never say never. I used to swear I would never glue a corsage, but I've become an advocate of Oasis glue. I still wire shoulder corsages, but for wrist corsages it's glue for me!

Well, on this glue thingy.. it is faster but more importantly the corsages are nicer, mor e delicate.. One guy brought in a competitor's,, unhappy with the yellow tinge to the white rose.. we use akita and I guess they did not spring for the price and got a more yellowish rose..
But the big difference is it was wired. 1 rose and 2 small minis bb on a elastic wrister with the metal clamp.. we do not use them anymore. we use the lace with ties, or the rhinestone bracelet or the new sequins ones.
the glueing means it is lighter, more delicate. sometimes we do both..like with the large roses..we will wire them and then do the accessories bb etc to cover techniques..
Only issue is if you do not use enough glue it can fall apart.. before we box them we do shake HARD to be sure this won't happen and to be truthful wire and taping does not guarantee the falling apart issue some of these kids are pretty hard on corsages

we use the lace with ties, or the rhinestone bracelet or the new sequins ones.
How do you all like those sequinned wristlets? When I saw them from a sales rep, they stretched out and between the sequins was noticeable stretchy material - not very pretty when it was on. Maybe it was just his ...

tracy

Well, they are cheaper than the rhinestone bracelets,, nicer than the regular elastic wristers.. not a big seller..but it gives them options.. and makes the rhinestone bracelets more attractive in comparison
