I think kid 2 and I came to an agreement.

We are both listening to Aerosmith right now. he is on the other computer and asking what next to play and he loves the music!

Who would have thought a Baby boomer and a Gen x coming together and liking the same music.

but then again, I also love much of the Big Band era, so my dad, Depression Era/WWII gen links with me the baby boomer.

Tomorrow, night I think it will be the Motor City Mad Man for kid 2!

that is a double bonus, because kid 2 wants to get into bowhunting.

what do you and your kids jointly enjoy in music?

Good for you, Joe! It's great when we can 'click' with music with our kids. My boys are 21 and 17 and we all share music. A few weeks back, the 3 of us watched a Pink Floyd concert video and had a grand time. Good stuff all around. :headbang: My youngest listened to lots of rap for a long time and I liked some of it, some not LOL. But now he's starting to listen to more and more of my music. 'Tis fun indeed. :bangles:

the rap stuff is where i draw the line...... i'm sure i could find some that I like, but havent bothered.

Michael, kid 1, age 16 is the musician, his taste range from Mozart to rap.

not sure about my girls yet.

Alana grew up listening to an eclectic array of music. She would often raid my albums and (dare I say this) my 45 collection. I love almost all music and I listen to whatever makes my ears and heart happy.

Alana and I shared the Elton John experience, her boyfriend is taking her to We Will Rock You in Toronto for her birthday... she loves Queen (so do I). Music is truly a great way to bond a relationship and I'm forever grateful for it. :)

So far for me it's Elmo's Song.

But when he's ready I got a whole plethora of rock and roll for him.

I owned the first Alternative (spell as Hippy) record store in Portland for 15 years and I still have hundreds of all the classic albums - yes vinyl.

Hope there'll still be a record player available in about 10 years.

our college age son is a Rocker - one of my birthday gifts was a remix of Eric Clapton, Stones, Hendrix, Eagles, BOC (more cowbell) , Deep Purple, Cream - you get the drift.

and he has introduced us to OK Go, Angels and Airwaves, James Blunt
and we gave him Pat Metheny, Acoustic Alchemy

Our daughter leans toward some pretty different stuff (we are still questing for some german band cd) but has taken a big liking to Lorenna McKennitt, Annie Lenox and Sting

And we all like the soundtracks to LOR.

Rock Rules

My daughter Jessica (26) and her fiance Brett found our music bond with Savoy Brown.

Savoy Brown I saw them at the Rock Pile.

My daughter Tanith (18) has listened to the Beatles for years. This summer I said why don't you learn to play the guitar. It was like a light went off in in head.

I can hear her now working on the opening to Black Bird.

I still have my Dual turntable hooked up and do use it from time to time.

CD's and other media just don't have the same feel or sound as a clean piece of vinyl. And yes I still use Disc Washer D3 to clean.

My 3 year old, Lucy, is a huge Dave Matthews Band fan! Her favorite song seems to be Ants Marching. Just this morning she was belting out the lyrics like she had written them herself. I LOVE to see her enjoying music. We share a love for music and I love that. Next year we plan to take her to see DMB for the summer tour. I truly believe she will love that. Another one of her favorite bands is the Red Hot Chili Peppers. We listen to a lot of music in our house. One of the first things I tried to teach her was to float a goat. Rock On!!:musical:

In all the years I've known you, I've never known this!
Oh, geez, this is starting to sound like the other thread!!

Not too hip to those yet - but I'm learning.

I get to start each day with "Oh Toodles" from the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. He HAS to have that on as he eats his breakfast.

Yes, according to some I am a 60 year old man.

opinions vary

just be kind to her ears and don't sit too close to the speakers. :)
rock on.

The RHCP had THE most pounding PA I have ever heard. Each side had 12 cabinets with 2 18" speakers in each one. From 20 feet away it hurt your breastbone and from 10' in front of the speakers it was blowing my pantlegs. I'd stand there in front of them for 10 minutes then have to go back and lean on this rail and catch my breath before I could go back for another 10 minutes.

And Flea is a monster driving them too.

Awesome!

It was called the Long Hair Music Faucet, later changed to just Long Hair Music (we qualified too, mine was to my waist) and existed from I think 1969 to 1982.

I STILL have Dave Matthews initial demo CD, cut when he and my son were hangin out together, and at first I though what the??.....but, it grows on you!!
I maintain a high end turntable, for those days when vinyl returns in full force. Heavens, I was just a few days ago through our inventory, and came up on a Paula Abdul 45.........

rock on.
At the Starlake Amphitheater in Burgettstown, PA, there is a family section that sits way up on top of the hill. We wouldn't dream of taking her in the pavillion section. Way too loud:headbang:

Do you make and send copies of this demo?? that would be like a chunk of gold in our house!! When I first started listening to DMB, I wasn't sure of it at first. It DOES grow on you!! Now I wouldn't be on a deserted island without it!! And I'm sorry about the Paula Abdul thing!!! :tongue

I have had two incredible opportunities to see RHCP and have not ever seen them live. '92 Lollapalloza (sp?) and '99 Woodstock. We left early both times? WHAT??? Tragedy, I know. It sounds like you were seeing them at a bar?? Yes??

No it was in the Colliseum in Portland with floor (mosh pit) tickets my friend got in line at 7AM for.

It was deafeningly loud, but I like the saying "If my music's too loud - you're too old!"

I love that stuff, and have been to hundreds of very very loud concerts and have no hearing problems, and have often been right in front of the speakers.

so there.
