Hmmm..... coincidence???

The Mercury Network is down today?? Busy signals on all lines...

Get into support, and hear nothing but comotion, "AGH we just lost alot of lines!"? heard over the phone....

The planet Mercury is in retrograde, does affect communications...

Or is this another plot by the powers tha be in DG....nah...could'nt be....

It's too funny ....

Too bad it didn't happen Thursday with all the OG orders stuck in limbo.

Can you imagine if it happened this Mother's Day?

I wonder how Wally is feeling about this wonderful partnership now?

I was told they lost all power to the building.. and they were on emergency power batteries.. which allow only lights and very limited computers..

I was there a few years ago when con ed (however it is that does the power grid in downers grove) cut thru all power lines on Woodcreek..

Yeah I know a bunch of you guys want to find some alter mystery to this but since i was there once when it happened it is not too far fetched for me to believe it could happen again..

Weird things happen to all companies.. and you can not have backup power for everything... remember when chicago had a blackout maybe 15 years ago and all systems went down, took a week to get back I think, and it was Mothers Day..

even Microsoft went down not too long ago when some hackers bombarded it... it happens to lots of companies.
Just reminds me of the old ways and how much I like my computers when they work..

Yup - the good ol' days...are TODAY!

..as many of you,. we're picking up the phone and calling those orders out!

We're finding most shops willing to still take generic orders for today - a REALLY good thing for the REAL florists!

We all need to stick together - take those orders if you can! It really helps us FLORISTS look good to the customer! Plus, you get a sale! (you need EVERY one you can get on a holiday like this, right???)

And, HEY...if it happen's Mom's Day (God forbid), we'll be calling orders out again! My point is we have to keep going...

And, I believe they could have lost power. Those backup generators can only power the essentials...phone system, etc. You would think EFOS would have it's own system - but then again, think of all the modem banks, etc. to power...

Anyway, from what I can tell, Merc. down 3 hours, 8 min. now...

Still Out

They went down at 8am and are still down at 12:30 pm our time. Weather, cut lines, not paying the bill, who knows . Aty least we can process cc........and our phones are working and we are Busy!!!! Love the local biz.....

FTD.com don't look dead to me...

there was a MAJOR accident...

that took down a 19k power pole, and knocked out subsidiary power stations along the way, and cascaded almost right across the city!!
FTD DOES have back up power, but, with ALL THINGS, there only so much to go around, and the host MERC will be the last to go online, when a steady clean power supply is available

You would think that MERC should be the first thing to go on standby power.......FTD has got it's priorities screwed up if they think lights are more important than making sure customers orders get delivered!!!!!!!

IT was up for a bit and a few orders got thru, but it's down again now...

I wouldn't put a computer on line until I was assured of a reliable, steady non spiking power supply.. and I was told the lights that were on were the emergency lights.. it is a scary thing for a computer to go down due to a power spike or dimming, thats why we have a battery UPS,, not to keep the computer on line in a power outage but to allow it to shut itself down in a proscribed manner.
In a similar case lots of other businesses would close their doors and send everyone home, in fact I think I read recently of a few florists closing due to natural, or other , disasters..
I know some of you guys hate FTD..but come on be realistic!!! I really don't think this was a plot against all the florists in the world.

That's right carol

No one said anything about orders when the Blackout of August 2003 hit the Northeastern United States effecting the business of ALL for two days but when an accident happens in the Illinois Hub for a short time everyone thinks it was planned. I wonder how many folks didn't know the phones still worked?

I didn't say anything other than FTD's priority should be the transfer of orders.........dang that's what FTD is in the first place, a clearing house to transfer orders through!!!!!!
As for a reliable power supply............we ran our business during the great ice storm for a whole week using our ups hooked up to a generator running the phone system, merc, dove, and cash reg.......ran the odd light when we needed it and also ran the furnace fan (gas furnace)............

Don't tell me that an operation the size of FTD can't have a safety system so that the merc can stay up and running during a power outage!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TIS SUNDAY 1:15 pm still no Merc. Wonder what will happen tomorrow? Were there orders caught up in this mess? Been a very strong week for us til Saturday then it died.
