Well...well...well....

They have come up with a "Meth Gun" which like a radar gun can scan you from a distance away...it can detect a microgram of Meth...(an amount requiring a microscope to see).

Violation of rights? What say you!

Violation of rights no doubt. While I live in a "reclaimed" neighborhood and the strongest substance I use is coffee, this is just a bit over the top for such a small amount. How about making everyone who comes out of a bar take a breath test ...or maybe they will come up with a "stupid" detection test...that one should be popular in Washington!

:fdevil: ON

But where does your right to privacy cross my line to safety if I am obeying the law? Meth is illegal in any amount...

:fdevil: OFF

If you're not doing anything wrong, you've got nothing to hide and therefore why would you care if someone scans you?
Knowing that a meth lab in an apartment building can subject occupants in other apartments to traces of the drug...wouldn't you want your family protected from what you aren't aware of?

As someone who hesitates to take a cough drop, I'm not standing up for drug addicts. It just that every time someone wants to protect me I feel more of my rights slipping away. JMO

I think it's great when needing an excuse to investigate someone (i.e. enter their home on suspicion of illegal activity, etc.) but totally a violation of rights to just point and shoot in a public location just to see who you might be able to arrest. Not that I wouldn't want anyone posessing it to be taken off the street, but it would definitely be the first of many steps to control us for doing perfectly legal things. We see & hear of many cases in this area where meth has been found to be in production in a family's home right in front of the children--makes me sick to my stomach--and how many babies and children are physically affected by it. A zero tolerance policy would be great, but violation of rights is so sticky.

I live in Meth/Drug counrty and handle cash from everyone, will it detect me if I have a customer that pays in cash that has handled meth or drugs?

If it is detecting that little. I am sure...That is great for those of us in the retail world, could be a real hassle. On the other hand Meth is getting to be out of hand, It puts whole apartment buildings in danger. The "labs" are very very dangerous in terms of fire and the effects of cooking the drug get into the heating ducts and can affect eveyone in the building. As it is in my area, I have to suffer with a cold because they have taken all the cold medicine out of my cold medicine because of these creeps...

Scary world...

Living in fear seems to be the norm. I voted no.

I'm for it - this meth epidemic is the biggest our society has ever seen, and now they took cold pills off the market (or made them tougher to get) it's gotten even worse - guess wha't one way to make it?

They spray Wasp & Hornet Killer into a plastic bag, dissolve it, mix with pseudoephedrine, the insides of lithium batteries - and inject this stuff iv.

It's not even dope - just poison.

I'm for any way of eliminating and catching the cooks - they are not even selling dope - just poison nowadays.

On the other hand - I also favor legalization and harm minimization - so where does that put me now?

While I generally have a live and let live outlook on life, I think this is different. Meth is a very destructive drug that doesn't just impact the user. Society pays dearly for Meth addition. Just hire one and see what I mean.

Bring out the gun, and then put the people away in a place that will get them cleaned up.

Mount them with the traffic cameras for a 2fer! No rights violation because driving is an expensive privilege.

I'm with you - legalize your concoction. Ever see the movie 'Dawn Of The Dead'?

New from Ortho: Wasp, Hornet & Brain Killer.

I agree. And we already pay for this place - prison.

I agree with the Meth Gun, there is so many Meth Labs that get busted daily, weekly here in Alabama. These Adults get involved and then there kids and etc. It is very sad that people get hooked on this crap and then they loose there houses, cars, but more importantly there children, I could go on and on about the Meth Dealers around here but we don't have enough time or space on here to do so!!! I agree there needs to be drastic measure's to get the Meth Labs, dealers and users off our streets and out of our neighborhoods!!! They are crazy and a danger to our society. More robberies and theives have poped up since the epidimic has spread so much! I have a cousin that is 22 yrs old and hooked on the stuff, she is pregnant, talk about scarey, DHR is setting on ready to take the baby when it is born. They have no idea how the baby will turn out. She was a very well behaved, beautiful young lady before she get messed up with her Boyfriend who in turn got her hooked. Now she is pittiful, all her teeth are rottening and she looks like she is in her 50's instead of 20's. She has already had a 4 yr old little girl taken away from her. Sorry to ramble on but I agree something Major needs to get these meth labs off our streets and out of our communities!!!! Children suffer because of this drug!

Dunno if this is just a local Oregon deal -I think it was created here, but I have a guy I have tried to help for about 12 years now that looks just like te third guy down when he is out there

We have drug dogs...so what's the difference if you use a meth gun? Detect and arrest. I'm tired of druggies.

And police have radar guns for speeding and alcohol sensors for detecting alcohol after the speeder has been stopped by the cop using the radar gun.

Saturday night after work, I stopped at a quick shop. Parked next to a early 1990's Ford pick up truck, in order for the truck not to roll backwards the driver Chocked the back wheel with a 4x4 piece of wood. When I walked in I looked at these two characters and their faces looked a bit weird (early users) They were in the store buying Sudafed or whatever the comparable version of it is, and they had to sign a paper and give the clerk the personal info, address, DL#, DOB, etc.

Meth Gun? who needs it, just look in the face of a user.

Look at their teeth and that haunting look on their faces.

joe

oh yea, i think it is a good idea because the precedence has been set with radar guns and other measuring devices.

Unfortunately just locking people up is not the answer. Our prison system is rife with drugs to start with and we all know that you can't be forced to clean up you have to WANT it for yourself. Perhaps other parts of the country aren't so backward as south FL, but I have seen to many come out of jail and be back to business as usual in days. Additionally, from what I saw while working in the Psych Dept, many abusers actually have psychatric issues and are trying to self medicate. Some people will do just about anything not to feel the pain.

After meth in a year or two something else will come along, and then again another after that. Can you remember when pot was the evil, evil thing? Anyone remember prohibition?

Scary as it affects families, businesses and our civil liberties.

Lorrie, you're right. Most hit the streets looking for their next fix and the best way to get it. This doesn't just happen in Florida.
