With my September bank statement there was a flier for a discount from 800
flowers. I have seen plenty of theses in the past. This one bothers me more.
I bank at a local bank. Not Bank of America. They play up the fact that they are local and even belong to a buy local group
and donat meeting space to the group. I'm so disappointed

hmm... I have closed bank accounts for less.....

And even if you have no intention to close it, just taking the ad to your branches VP in charge (of nothing) and handing it to he/she might be worth the laugh ;)

CrossMarketing! the new wave for of new sales for OG's.

I had this conversation with an accountant for a large National Shrine who was negotiating with Pro-Flowers last year.

Ugghhh

This aggrevates me, about like my hubby's company sending out memo's in e-mails to use this certain OG's services, then all they do is turn around and call local florist and try to get us to fill it. Makes me mad they do that!!! Saying they can save money and blah blah, ughhh, yeah save money, right, HAHA, after the service charges and etc, LOL, they don't save anything!!!!

Local Biz

Our policy is to only do business locally (period) and a couple of more periods .....

Since we have 3 shops...we have 3 banks....not because we have that much cash.....but because we support the home team and the local merchant.

I'd fire a warning shot at any of them for this....and if they did it twice....I'd fire em. You gotta let em know....this is not good business for them, or for their customers.

All the best...

Ditto on that one - just give me a reason to close one.

My bank fingerprinted my wife once and I got let's just say, totally cheesed off. The big cheese called me and apologized and promised it would never happen again, even tho it is "bank policy".

Nobody fingerprints me or my wife unless they got handcuffs, and I'm trying to give that stuff up.

I'd drop the strongest hint I could.

I'm with Mark. I have closed bank accounts for less.

I feel very strongly about supporting people that support me. The bank should be made aware of this and then see what happens. How much money does 800 flowers have in that bank?

Local Bank..... Local business!
I, too, would call up your local branch manager and tell him what you think. Ask him, or her, how THEY would feel if you started sending out flyers in your statements to switch to US Bank.

And... still, the bottom line would be.... STOP giving these big wire services YOUR MONEY to support their ever growing advertising thats working AGAINST YOU!

I third what Carol B. said and yes, I would be a fixture in that bank manager's office stating that my business could easily go to a corporate bank elsewhere or guess what??? A LOCAL credit union (the banks hate credit unions)...

Don't mean to sound?

I know this is frustating, but when one of my banks did this, we asked if we could put one of our items in mail outs, they let us, as well as put an arrangment on the counters, So I would ask them,,

FTD has a "partnership" with HP here in town - the biggest employer. They offer them 20% off and Free Delivery. Then guess who fills it?

Not us fershure.

But the other 2 members here take them gratefully.

We used to take 40-50 deliveries there on Sec Day - has dwindled to next to nothing since they made that deal and yes, I understand they send out company emails telling them to use them (what hoppened to buy local?)

Bloomz, have you ever called the local PIC, President, or VP to talk with them about this and educate them on how thier "Partnership" works?
What does FTD give back to HP in return for all those orders? Or is it just the "free delivery"? ... cuz heck, if it's all going to HP, YOU could do free delivery to them.
Call em up, Offer free delivery, take back your biz!

I agree with you need to talk to them. They probably 'never even thought about it.' That is the line I got here when something similar happened. If local business don't stick together, we will all be wal-marted to death.

This is happening everywhere. Here on the east coast we used to have lots of shoe factories, they are all now high end loft apartments because wal-mart and payless sell shoes that people can afford. Made by people in a third world country working for pennies. Flowers unfortunately have been getting cut and cut and cut the same as other industries. Hardware stores are closing due to home depot. Convenience stores are closing due to huge supermarkets. Small butchers and fish stores are closing because they can't compete with super stop and shop. Do these small stores carry better products? Yes they do, but people are obviously shopping much more on price than on quality these days. People will not care until the local main street has nothing but coffee shops, wireless phone stores and hair salons on it. Oh Wait, it already does...Main street america, sux!!!

Slight thread hijack...David similar thing happened to me at Mother's day. Advertising for years in our 'home town paper'. Put nice ad in for Mother's day, what does the paper do? Filled the entire page above my ad with an article about buying flowers from PROFLOWERS for Mother's day. 'Should you need flowers this holiday call - Proflowers.'

WWWWHHHAAAAATTTTT????

Sent the publisher and my ad rep an e-mail asking them why they would put a 'filler' article in the paper when they could have interviewed 5 other shop owners in the papers coverage area. (though I'm the only one that advertises regularly) Told them I would not be paying that bill, nor would I be advertising with them again. I've supported them with my ad $$'s, if they don't want to support me, at least they could support another local flower shop.

I'd close the account as well.
