David....
within the realm of the small business "community" it's NOT always a provocation when someone issues flyers on behalf of a competitor, most times, it's a casual decision, and the downside, IS, that bad feelings erupt when, it "appears" that an otherwise "loyal" associate, does something irrational or stupid.
Here's an example.....a year ago this past Mother's Day, a chinese business associate, "allowed" a street vendor to take up some space in his lot, just a stone's throw from our shop, claiming that he had some Mother's Day items he wanted to sell.
Also, because the "vendor" was NOT a local, he "rented" this guys vendor's permit, for whatever fee they agreed upon, and set up his wares.
Turns out, this guy was a bunch floral vendor, and being RIGHT on one of the busiest corners in our town, basically made it uneconomical for us to be ope on Mother's Day...cost us a lot of sales!!.
I was absolutely furious...Sandie, I, and many of our friends, and family, HAD become fixtures at his restaurant, and THAT STOPPED, immediately
Danny was stunned.....came over red faced, and apoligized in languages I had never heard before, knowing full well, what had now transpired!!
We "punished" him for a year..and he was angry at himself for being "duped" into trying to be a nice guy, for a few pocket bucks!!
We are talking again, but the money we USED to spend at his restaurant have dried up!!
He spearheaded a mandate in town, for ALL local vendors, to NEVER allow to happen, what happened to him, and it worked...everyone has signed on, and our town will NEVER see uninvited street vendors again!!
Don't be too hard on your Bank guy....
