My Products Nationwide

As always, the 'catch' is hoping the other florists have the same flowers and foliages as seen in the photos.

I've noticed a recent trend where a few larger shops are creating 'out of town' sections in their website and showing tightly cropped close-ups or partial or 'romance blurred' images by style/type and then offering price ranges for the 'look'. Cut and paste this page to see an example. oberers.com/wire-flowers.html

It's much less risky in terms of creating disappointment by not having flowers delivered to exactly match the pictures. I'm actually headed in this direction for our site. Right now, our regular customers can't really use our site to order online for sending out of town so we're basically driving them to OGs when they need to shop after our normal business hours.

This last week, 1-800's FB page had numerous examples posted of 'what I bought/what I got' pictures and they were really, really bad. (Of course, much had to do with the florists actually making 'all arounds' with budded flowers instead of pointing very open blooms all towards the camera.)

Eric,

This is the very reason I continue to say that the internet has ruined our industry...There is way to many variables from area to area to accomodate those people that order a picture and expect a natural product to be exact as if the where ordering a Sauder desk....You have area prices that differ, then add in area availability that differs, then add in florist preference availability, then add in the biggest one, florist ability(this is the one that makes or breaks a picture), it just makes our jobs more difficult, monotonous and tedious, which goes against our artistic nature to begin with...but if every florist had good ability and a good concience I think there wouldn't be so many problems with picture orders no matter if it is a vase a basket a shoe with flowers in it...I think the whole of the problem boils down to common sense and florist ability and quality...some just have none of the above and shouldn't be in business filling your orders, my orders or their own orders...

Eric, thank you so much for not using recipes such as 3/4 stem of this or 1/2 stem of that. Gets on my nerves when I see that on a TF recipe.

My wife was just saying this very same thing this morning.

You know everyone I'll be honest this thread has really gone in a completely different direction then what I was imagining.

You know I just don't know if there is a place anymore for the wire service. Its going to be very difficult to keep teleflora on much longer if I don't have a reason to send orders.

Mothers day was a very good indication of how many orders are left to send outside of our area.

It was not that many.

I was talking to a bunch of industry friends and they were saying the same thing...I think the days of wire service are finally numbered and i think that other than corporate accounts there will be no reason to have to send anything beyond your local area...

You know I personally like that Idea but I just don't think people will go for it.

I guess the only thing left to do is to either try that or start using my own images.

I plan on removing all of the Teleflora Images this weekend and began working on new products for sending orders. I just can't decide on if I spend the time and develop our own or use some of our exisiting products.

Actually now that I think about it I have already tried doing what you posted cathy. It didn't work either.

Eric,
I totally agree. I can't understand the wholesale prices in Toronto, considering that most of my flowers are grown in Stoney Creek which is a 2 hour drive from my shop. I guess we need to find a way to eliminate the middleman!
Emily (well, I don't, since I'm closing but you get my drift !)

Not Stoney Creek!
Could be the surrounding area, Beamsville, Grimsby, Dunville, Welland... and most of the growers are even farther away.
I live in Stoney Creek and barely buy any of my flowers here from Staalduinen. Its all done at the auction, where the prices can't be compared.

I came to about $75-80 for the arrangement

OK, I think that my geography is off - where is RosaFlora situated ?
Emily

We could do that for the price. Our problem lies in the delivery charge. We have delivery charges ranging from $5 to the hospital to $35 for some far away rural areas. On any given day we have orders going to surrounding towns ranging in delivery charges from $12-$30.

I think as far as having the EXACT flowers and greens, that's not critical. They're basically mixed garden vases and as long as they have similar textures and colors, I wouldn't have a problem with a few substitutions. I think size is critical though. Filling florists should know the dimensions.

I would like to see some description like "garden vase in spring pastels" or "cube vase in purples" . Maybe we should start with the DESCRIPTION for outgoing orders and then move on to a picture with a quote like "SIMILAR to" and show a picture. We should have our outgoing internet orders follow along the lines of Tim Huckabee's order taking. I think showing an exact picture as the start of the order process is setting us all up for failure.

I'm going to offer my two cents.........and a possible salvation of sorts.

The problem(s) with specified designs are......(regional pricing variations, region product availability, regional variables in delivery charges, and designer/shop skills) - Yes.....not everyone knows how to create a stable/secure 4 inch cube design in my area.

Anyway.......TO negate most of those problems.......You showcase 4 DESIGNS per style/type - Spring/Summer/Fall/Winter and SPECIFY that the florist WILL USE THE FRESHEST FLOWERS OF THE SEASON AVAILABLE ( NO RECIPE LISTING )
