I have a strange question? I have been doing this for over 25 years now, and They are never ever quality in late June or early July, I remember once in the early 80's they were, but that was a fluk thing, Why are shops promising these items, last week a shop promised the girl the same, and the tried to pass off lisanthus, Come on they are not the same thing, you might as well use that of a mini carn for that matter, I am just wondering on this issue, I see it alot in my local area, is it to make a sale or that of what, that is a touchy flower to begin with, I know sometimes it can happen but rarely,,,Not to be issy or anything, I just have wondered on this, for some time now,

Joan I have a Jul 10 bride with the same thing, she wants ranunculus (or peony, ha)

A few months ago it was "no problem" from the wholesaler but then a couple weeks ago when I tried to order it was like "well of course we can't get them now" or actually she told me they can get them from Holland but that some entity (Dept. of Agriculture?) may hold them to make sure they're ok (I don't remember exactly why, this was a few weeks ago) and they don't store them properly and they'll probably get damaged. To me that is as good as saying you can't get them at all. REALLY effin annoying. This is information I could have used 3 months ago!!!

I've had NO luck and finally talked her into garden roses as a sub but said I'd keep trying to find her flowers. May try the rose-cutting trick with a rose tomorrow just to see how it looks....

I think maybe it's the US Customs that might be holding stuff up.. We had to order a part for our tractor.. and it has been like three weeks and customs will not release it... It really sucks - because we need the tractor and it wont run without this part (kinda expensive part - that we already paid for) and now US customs will not release it.. It has been very odd - I would not ship... would be toooo scary.. :(

Well in both of our cases our wholesalers told us we could get them. There are fluctuations in times that certain flowers are available. Neither Joan nor I are randomly promising out of season flowers just to make a sale or because we don't know better.

last year I lost a peony wedding because I wouldn't promise them in July, based on my wholesaler's advice (who I trust very much). I checked some online sources later, out of curiosity, and they had them well into july on the inventory. Now I know to check other places before listening to my everyday suppliers.

I was also told no tulips at the end of June & lo & behold, I got them by chance from the same wholesaler this week! Sometimes the info isn't accurate, or new sources are growing out of season stuff - remember when Hydrangea was only in spring & summer? Now it's all year round.

The thing is, seems like we can get any flower any time these days. Guess not!
pretty much, with some flexibility in choices.
