I realize it is early for most shops to be thinking about Christmas......but as I mentioned in FlashChat last evening.......This new job is like nothing I have ever experienced in my floral industry career up to this point. The closest parallel I can equate to this is designing for a showroom/wholesale house.

The store is over 20 thousand square feet of merchandise......from indoor and outdoor wicker and pation furniture, Outdoor gardening decor from trellises to large pots, and other exterior decor, Interior decor includes all kinds of containers, accent furniture, permanent botanical floral, kitchen wares, dining and housewares, framing, and hangable framed artwork.

It is a bit overwhelming to have so much merchandise available to utilize in designing.......we can utilize/use anything in store to dress/ accent with permanent botanicals. I have creative control, no established budgetary restraints ( except just good common sense ), I can take as much time as needed to make sure the design is done correctly, and pretty much free rein to create visual merchandising displays to help sell/move the product.

As I mentioned in FlashChat last evening.....I am surprised at how much I am liking the new job.

I love the look of big ornaments in slim trees. I think it looks very contemporary. I also think it's what people expect to see in a flower shop. Something unusual and out of the ordinary.

That tree looks great Ricky!

I'm sure you will Rock that store with all the displays, I hear the $$$$ rolling in the front door now. Good luck to you, and have fun!!!!

Ricky,
I'm sure that you already thought of this, but be sure to calculate out the retail cost of the tree. You will get people who want to buy the entire tree, with all the ornaments!

they will also want to pay to have it transported to their home or site, and re-installed. Just be prepared for those questions.

Looks good,

Cheryl

I have figured out the cost of the tree fully decorated. I am told that this is a good idea, but in reality, I am also told that customers will pull stuff directly off the tree necessitating replacement.....so the price of the tree constantly changes.

More pretty pictures

Well, I had loads of fun with this tree today. The theme was Whimsy - The selected theme colors - Hot Pink, Lime green, Purple, Royal Blue and Turquoise Blue with hints of gold.

I am splitting the pictures in two postings......

CP-27 = a 9 feet length of lime green tinsel wired/branch garland with lime green lights.

CP-33 = The completed two lengths of garland with the four colors of ribbon woven through.

CP-34 = The custom tree top created out of mixed ribbon bows, green finial ornaments, and glittered ornaments

CP-35 = Base decor on the tree

CP-37 = More of the tree showing how I swirled faux branches

CP-48 = The completed finished tree

Some more pictures for you.

CP-54 shows a design created for a wall.......in a black and gold picture frame.......Flowers as Framed Art.

CP-53 shows the theme tree - Silver Snow - This is how the white tree with the silver and blue decorations turned out.

CP-52 shows the theme tree - Sugarplums and snow - All kinds of candy and sweet treats ornaments on a flocked tree.....the candy stripe mesh is a super wide mesh ribbon.......fun to work with.

CP-50 shows a 60 inch diameter chandelier style wreath hung from the steel roof beams.

CP-49 shows a some of the 36 inch miniature trees suspended at different heights - all the trees had to maintain a retail price point of between 40 and 60 dollars.

Oh, and meant to add - We are also in full swing Christmas production.....I work with two other designers.
I just today finished up 3 dozen mailbox toppers......PVC pine with red/gold backed #40 velvet - retail price point 12.99
Also finished up 12 36 inch mixed PVC pine teardrop swags......red/gold backed $ 40 velvet bow with dual ornament accent - retail price point 32.99
and when I get back from SRFA - will start 12 half/wall trees - at 39.99 price point.

Just visualizing a 7 ft slim tree with jigunda ornaments, I think I would tuck the largest ones deeper on the branches near the trunk, the mid sized ornaments at the half way part of the branch and the smallest at the end of the branches.
Grouping 3 sizes together here and there too. I'm sure it will be beautiful!

Yes it was a tree..........The way I did the tree topper was fun ( and hard as heck)

I took these big 8 inch long finial ornaments.....and put a stem on them. ( coathanger wire with a hyacinth stake for support. Then gathered them up into a handtied arrangement. I then took smaller ornaments, ribbon, and accesories and wired them in to the handtied. I florataped it all together and placed that at the top of the tree.

Work it Ricky!!!!! Loving the colors of pinks and blues. I'm starting this week to make a christmas room and a thanksgiving room. It's time
