New product question

Ewieee freakin ewiee....ask Resnick if she would have this junk in her house. No offense to you Nicole but do these buyers have their heads ..well what were they thinking.
This is circa 1980...and the colors are drab...BORING....
never never....and they want us to buy into this.....
Sher
ya took the words right outta my mouth!!!

We get orders all the time for TF-F4 on our website.
I think the price point is the selling feature for most.
Myself, I think it's cute.

I guess the point of this is, when we get an order for this 4" terra cotta pot, we go to the dollar store and pick one up for a buck.

It looks weird to me. Did you ever see the movie "The Fly"? It looks like a terra cotta pot and a watering can teleported together from one pod to another and your product is the outcome.

Not a fan of watering cans, but I thought 1800flowers "Shower of Flowers" was decent. We sold out of them pretty quick.

I get italian terra cotta 6" for .65 each at my wholesaler! (some day he's gonna run out of that shipload of italian terra cotta that came over with his italian ggrandparents LOL )

I have to agree with the majority Nicole. First of all, it is extremely old-fashioned, not 'retro' which is what I think you were trying to capture. Secondly......such a small size has no real after-use as a watering can . You've had similar containers before and they functioned poorly at best.
They are not any 'brand' like Kinkade for instance......so no collector value.

Also, going by your past containers, the purchase price I would guess is over 7 dollars per container at a 48 container case and even higher for a less than a 48 case. So, they are not a good value for dollars spent.

So, taking all that into account, You and your member shops would be better served by just using a tall terracotta pot.

I think it is wonderful you would ask for your customers opinions.Especially on a board that is made up of mostly brick and mortar florists that Teleflora supports through eduacation.... more than any other wire service. Wire service...I hate to use that phrase when talking about Teleflora.
Teleflora is part of the backbone of the floral industry and will play a key role in bringing back the glory day's of proffesional florists.
Most of our Teleflora products sell very well as they are marketed very well. however due to the differences in markets across the globe sometimes we need to change up the design style a bit to sell the products. Need help.....most states have Teleflora boards which provide low cost eduacational programs to help designers come up with new ideas to increase sales and creativity.
I am a firm believer in the brick and mortar florist and consider Teleflora a friend. Thank you for asking for our opinion.

I live in a rural community and my customers like stuff like this...however, it all comes down to price point, price point, price point. It is hard to make a profit when you already have 8 bucks in a container (you have to include shipping costs). We just go to Dollar Tree and buy a knock off so we can get close. Grandparents day has never generated a single order for us.

And, it is hard to move so many of the same thing...just as was mentioned here. It is too bad the minimums are so huge. Would love to see TF add the option of smaller packs...6 of two different kinds of containers. I can't move 24 even during a major holiday. I try to split with other florists, but it is harder and harder to find willing partners. Why doesn't TF coordinate that for us as a service? When they call us to try to get our order...and we say no because quantities are an issue, they could ask if we would be interested in splitting with another area florist...and if so, call around and find someone within 30 to 45 miles of us to split packs. TF's advertising does drive some traffic...and we might have a handful of people who come in requesting what they have seen. Otherwise, it is us pushing the container or arrangement that TF is promoting. Now that would be a service I could get behind!

My grandmother probably would have loved it back in the 80"s {she is 92 BTW, but has a house full of stuff}

but think about the age of grandparent's these days and most of them were teenagers in the 60's and the 70's.

they don't go for that knick knack stuff. The are off riding Harley's, doing vacations in Mexico and getting the nails done.

Its a whole different world - catch up in the container market

Is Grandparents day big anywhere???? I know that Sweetest day is big in the midwest, when I worked in Boston, we used to get a few for the new college kids from their heartbroken beaus in the midwest....but it never caught on as a holiday here....I think I have done 2 grandparent's Day arrangements in 25 years and have had at least 200 TF calanders with it prominently displayed for the last 15 years.....if it has been a holiday for that long...

Every time I get pitchers, they sell great. The last ones I got were a 4 color assortment from Hill's with an opal glaze. I need to cluster them all together in one spot so people notice them.

If I bought these from TF, I think they would cost me $7.20 delivered packed 24. That's kukoo, nuts, crazy, etc.

They need to be offered in cases of 12 & landed @ $3.99-4.99max to be a viable option for everyday.

My experience is that when you guys blow out the GDay arrangement as the all around arrangement for cheap after the holiday it sells well & we get orders from HQ.

Every now & then we get a few GDay orders.

This is not one of my favorite containers. The pitchers never sell well in our area even when they're cute, they just aren't practical. This container isn’t attractive, it’s probably heavy and even heavier when full of water, and we never sell anything for Grandparents Day. We did sell the songbird container this year but none for GDay, they were all everyday and most without flowers. Thanks for asking us. I like that we are getting emails asking our opinions on future containers and products for the selection guide. I think this is a great way to show your members that you need their input.

There is nothing enticing about this pitcher/pot. Dated colors
and nothing that my customers would have in their home as
a keeper.

Nicole, do you like it and would you have it displayed in your home?
That is the question I ask myself when buying gift items.

Is this going to be one of the containers that Teleflora is offering for their customers for $30.00, and giving us a portion of the money. Teleflora is not trying to help us.

Nicole, - Dore (Marigold) asks a good question. This is something that I do myself. With that container.......Would YOU buy that for your home? Would you spend your dollars on that? Is that something that would fit in your home decor scheme? Would you send that to someone you loved and cared about? Would you give that as a gift to a special person? Would they appreciate it.....Would they use it afterwards?

By simply answering a few simple questions, I avoid a lot of impulse buys, but after I ask myself the questions......I find that the items I buy are of real value and not just a whim.

I somewhat agree with Ricky and Dore,,,,but of course I sort of disagree too.

Amy and I have polar opposite tastes.
And I do mean polar opposites. What she would have in her home is not what I'd have. We don't like the same purses, or clothes, or perfume, or dogs, or food, nothing!! We don't even like the same roses!!!! She likes cabbage rose, yuck, I like roses that open like a katarina.. Very sharp and pointed. I think it's why we made a good team for so long, we balanced each other out. anyhoo....

I think a buyer buying what they like is not always a good measure of what people will or will not buy. Knowing you're customers is what's best. Trust me, If we would get $500k more in sales a year if we were a carns, daisy, BB, shop, We'd be a carns, daisy, BB shop.

I seriously don't get TF's thinking with this out dated grossness. Not one person on here said "OMG!! I LOVE IT!!!!"

One thing I do know for sure- If a flower shops sales staff does not like an item, they will not promote it. Why not buy products your sales staff will sell, or better yet, buy product that sells it's self!

I agree 100% with this. I have been in the position of helping to buy our merchandise, along with my dad and one of our salesmen, who knows his customers like the back of his hand. I dislike 90% of what he chooses. But guess what, it sells. If we bought only what I liked, what I would put in my house, we would be out of business. We all have different taste, and apparently my taste is very "unique". Its not about us, its about our customers.

Not saying I like the container though. We have had things along those lines in the past - our florist customers don't buy them, probably because they know they can't sell them.

Yep, what she said!

Thanks, everyone, for the feedback! We explore things we may not be drawn to ourselves because of exactly what was outlined by many of you - we often wouldn't buy our own bestsellers! It's interesting that none of you have seemed to like the purple version, because in a prior e-mail survey to a random group of member shops, the purple one tested very highly (like over 50% approval). *shrug*

Personally, I try not to stick my fingers in the product development arena as I'm not a designer or decorator in any sense. ;) The best I can do is make a pretty powerpoint on occasion.
