On Martha this a.m. she had a florist (Michael Burns?) who showed how to make a spiral arrangement with mini callas and "giant" callas.
He laid them all down on a table side by side, added layers side by side all heads on top of each other until he had a "pyramid". He then cut the stems off flat, placed an elastic ponytail band around the stems...pulled the elastic up over halfway then recut the stems flat, placed bunch in vase then using both hands one close to the rim, other close to the heads, twisted in opposite directions to produce a "spiral" look.
Personally, wasn't even close to a spiral but he stated "I want people to know they don't need a professional florist to do these"

Oh he is great, Thanks alot for showing that Michael....

She needs people to buy her loose cuts because her florist arranged flowers are selling that hot...

Hi inferno, I clicked on the link and there is a video. I almost missed it, but the picture of Martha and Michael George is actually the video.

oops, Michael George....Burns, George...
can you tell I wasn't listening too hard after the intro?

I am at a loss for words. All I can say is OMG.......but not in a good way.

OK, this is gonna sound "catty", or perhaps "snarky" is the new millenial word for it, but DOES ANYBODY ELSE WEAR LATEX GLOVES WHEN THEY DESIGN?

...not that you can call what he did designing....OK that WAS snarky...

just took mine off...reason...
was planting plants and can't stand the dirt under my fingernails which are quite long for a florist
another reason is alstromeria. I use lots of it, love it, love the lasting quality and the "fill" of it in vases and it doesn't like me at all. I currently have three fingers with blisters and those are on my left hand from just holding the stem...
I have latex and nitrile gloves.
Sometimes any sappy flower can cause the similar reactions as alstro. I've had callas, tulips, & iris cause irritation.

Every flower has a face and a place....HA that is funny. I was told that a hundred years ago, too. What I would like to know is if you are laying everything on the table and then chopping and dropping how do you control where the faces go....He is so full of crap...

I looked at his website and there are many many arrangements on there that are simple like that but some are evry very exquisite...of you take 40 or 100 of any stem of flowers anyone can bunch them together and make something that looks ok especially if it is like a calla or rose or daffodil that are all one length and jammed in the vase...

OK, didn't think about the allergy thing.

I just thought "well this guy just does not want his hands dirty"

and I know there are chemicals, etc.

So sincerely sorry about your blisters! OUCH!

Please forgive me for sounding harsh.

The gloves just seem over the top...

Hybrid Tabletop Technique?

Did I miss this in my AIFD book?...going to check after I post this...

I've always thought Michael George was waaaay overrated as a designer. Though he's quite the marketer, obviously.
Bleah.

hahaha watched the video and hmm he does look like a magican with those gloves on....and i love the 'twisting effect' that he does at the end...very clever:confused:
Least you did not get him confused with George Michael:)

George Michael is waaay sexier.

Maybe Michael George or whatevertheheckhisnameis can come back for a Christmas with Martha, bring the gloves, and be in the hand bell choir...

And thats all I have to say.

Because...

Momma always said if you can't say anything nice, then say nothing at all.

I should listen to my mom more often...

I shall now shut up and then shut up some more. :spankmecu

Hand bell choir??!! LOL What a visual!!
