Did I miss this in my AIFD book?...going to check after I post this...

Rhonda let me know while you are checking if the 2 1/2 times the container height is way out of date and if they give any new proportions....I think we may find that it still stands as aguide to making a well balanced and proportionate arrangement unlike michael George would like them to believe.

Oh yeah, I forgot that one too!!
And nope, hybrid table whatever is not found in the AIFD book anywhere....lol

one thing that just "bugsthecrap"out of me about dear martha is she NEVER talks about how much any of her designs(I use that work very loosely) cost.I suppose I will be having brides come in with a picture of that arrangement, and when I tell them how much it costs, they will totally stoke out...........thanks Martha!!!!!! remember when you showed a b.q. of pink lily of the valley in your magazine? still haven't forgiven you for that one!!!!

hm, only one question left: why go through all this if you can just aarange a spiral bq using bare hands?

OK, this is gonna sound "catty", or perhaps "snarky" is the new millenial word for it, but DOES ANYBODY ELSE WEAR LATEX GLOVES WHEN THEY DESIGN?

...not that you can call what he did designing....OK that WAS snarky...

Actually, yes. I've known several designers who wear latex gloves daily. Some flowers, such as alstromeria or gomphocarpus , create a chronic dermatitus rash that is quite irritating and the gloves help to reduce contact with the stems. Actually, designing with latex gloves is not as bad as you would think.

In my younger days, I was a mechanic and "real men" never wore gloves. Now, more and more mechanics are wearing them...it keeps the hands cleaner and they spend less time cleaning the grease from their fingernails. My mechanic friends tell me that you really don't lose the tactile feeling.

If they stroke at the price....we'll still sell flowers

Lizzie Ann - maybe they are doing us a favorite. When the brides strokes at the price... they'll either end up in the hospital (get well flowers) or the funeral home (sympathy flowers) and we win any way you look at it... we sell flowers either for a wedding, a get well, or a funeral.

But They did still come into your store, right????

Anything promoting flowers is OK with me. Martha included. she irritates the hell out of me, but like I've said over and over, she's done a lot to promote the floral industry.

:rofl: :rofl::rofl:great comeback LOL

Snarky is an old word in a new millenium... funny this is the second time in about a week that I've seen it used.

At anyrate, while I didn't see the programme, a professional always makes everything LOOK easy. Not many will succeed and the damage to the tender callas will scare even more away.

OOOOO Super good point V!!!

I do Garden club presentations, and also I have done BNI presentations..

I can't tell you how many times I've had people come up to me and say "I tried to do what you showed us, but I just couldn't do it."

And funny enough, I've had more MEN from BNI groups give me props because they can see it's "building" something. They dig that about it.

Eh, I really think that the love of artistry really has to start somewhere and if it's someone saying you can do it yourself and they go and try and find out that they can or can't then they will have and enjoy having flowers around more.

Then their appreciation of quality will grow. And then, forgive the optimism that is about to spurt out, their tastes will continue to develop to extend their ordinary grocery shop varieties and designs and come back 'round to the really dedicated professionals like... ahem... us!!

(and now I put down the wine and take off the rose-colored glasses :)

MY MOTTO : From cradle to grave...we have an arrangement that will please !

Simply Elegant Flowers

I've always thought Michael George was waaaay overrated as a designer. Though he's quite the marketer, obviously.
Bleah.

I was looking at my Florists' Review Bookstore catalog today. One of the new books they are offering is Simply Elegant Flowers with Michael George. The book forward is by Martha Stewart. It is "only $30" for 208 pages with 100 color photos. Mr George is touted as "New York's premier fashion industry florist" and he "shares his secrets as he guides you, season by season, through a year of flowers."

The catalog shows a page in the book where he does the exact same calla instruction that he did on TV with Martha. Same yellow callas, same exact steps.

OK. Who's buying it first? (not me)

Goodie

My Grandmother (a Grand dame) in her later years watched alot of TV. When Martha would come on she would yell at the TV (before she would actually shut her off) "This woman is NUTS who has the TIME for this craziness, and who on EARTH has that kind of money these things of hers are not SIMPLE!!!!"

Perhaps Martha should specify - This is nice and simple and oly costs $1000.00 she could help us change our price points by letting our customers know things cost alot of money.

Let me quote the great Dolly Parton "It takes alot of money to look this cheap!"
