Thanks for the explanation, Rock. :)

With all the computer whizzes, why can't the large WSs and OGs display prices to reflect the mandatory Canadian taxes? I had no idea you needed to pay 15% of the order in local and federal taxes.

There should be an easy way to add those taxes on to the consumer's bill at the point of sale . Travel sites do it all the time, with some being sued for not handling the transactions properly. How would a buyer feel if they knew they were receiving less flowers due to known mandatory taxes being deducted? Would this border on false advertising (presenting products at prices when the companies know they are highly unlikely to be delivered as shown)?

The way it is now, a local florist is almost expected to absorb the taxes as a cost of doing business. This actually gives OGs an unfair advantage over buying direct from a local shop.

Seems very unfair.

Cathy,

The order form I've designed for our website does all these calculations. The tax rate is set based on the destination province, or exchange is added for US bound orders. It's not hard to do from an outgoing point of view.

I do know that it costs us sales to display the taxes & exchange. People see additional charges, and bail out of the order process. We routinely get emails from customers asking for explanations, especially those in the US ordering for Canada.

The simple thing would be to do flat rate inclusive pricing - "free delivery" if you will - and make the customer more comfortable. But, then I'd have a team of Floral Detective's on my a$$ ;) <jokes> Seriously, it's not something we have planned, but if we did move to inclusive pricing, it would be well documented that price includes delivery and taxes.
