OGs, DOGs & HOGs

OG? Guilty! And hoping to become a better one! I have to be an OG because I have regular on-line customers who order from my website, but the delivery can be for any place in the country.

Any florist, website or not, who does not offer the filling florist the full amount for the arrangement and delivery is a DDOG, dirty dog order gatherer. That is purely and simply disgusting and dishonest. IMHO, not so H any more.

Right on....

Now that we agree, let's call a spade a spade and in this instance, a dOG a dOG and quit making it sound like order gathering is bad, because if we didn't gather orders as florists, we'd be out of business.

Well, we don't YET agree. The reason is that I am attempting to define an OG. Here is what I said:
An OG is a floral business entity that intends to make all, or a substantial portion of its revenue by accepting orders that will be transferred to a florist for fulfillment.
Let me suggest that a VAST majority of REAL florists are NOT OGs for a very simple reason: They (we) obtain orders that WE INTEND TO FULFILL OURSELVES.

And THAT is the difference between an OG and a REAL florist.

Now... if you wish to debate whether or not the above is a "correct" or "valid" definition, you are free to do so. But please do not use logical incongruencies to support your concepts.

Your logic is no more valid than the following: "All suicide bombers are Islamists. Therefore, all Islamists are suicide bombers."

And do it like this: /sigh - It's old school commands for a M.U.D. or a M.O.O that would emote the emotion. So if you were to type /sigh and press enter, the screen would say Bill signs. - :) Just ignore me, I'm a nerd.

Nope. #SIGH# dates back to the 50's. It is what Charlie Brown often said when he was faced with an absurditity in life. And THAT pre-dates "nerdism" by about twenty years!

All the best!

I guess it depends on what you do with that definition Bill.

It's your line in the sand

There are both you know, real florists that are OGs. Whether that is a negative thing or now is your personal line.

all the best to you too!

To misquote Macbeth, "Methinks the gentleman protesteth too loudly."

I have no problem with a HOG (HONEST Order Gatherer). A HOG is an organization that clearly states who they are, where they are, and what they charge.

Your site, Jonathan, does not qualify as a HOG for two reasons.

First, you use Florist's Names and Locations in your site without obtaining prior approval from the florist. You did it with my company and with others. That's just plain wrong. <To your credit, when I called it to your attention, you promptly removed our company.>

Second, you add a delivery charge to every product on your website and then "cloak" that fact so that you can add a delivery/service charge that you will usually (but not always -- as we discussed) pocket.

I told you when we spoke on the phone some time ago that your website was just about the BEST floral website that I have ever seen. I stand by that statement.

But is made "dingy" by the above two flaws.

I can't help but wonder what effect (positive or negative) it might have on your website's performance if you were to contact every florist that you have listed on your site (including mine) and ASK them for permission to use their name on your site. (That's what Phillips did with me and we swapped links -- and mutual respect.)

And I wonder what effect it might have on your site's performance if you put a clear and understandable explanation of what your charges consist of and how your company uses the money.

Both of the above are YOUR choices. I do not have the RIGHT to tell you what to do, since I do not have to pay for it. (See Thomas Sowell for an explanation of this comment.) That's kinda different from the "liberal" mentality, but certainly a topic for another forum!

But I DO have the right to express an opinion about your business. And that is: As it exists, your company is a DOG (Dishonest Order Gatherer.)

All the best...

Quite alright Bill...I was "protesting" just for the sake of discussion, and I do luvs a good "discussion".

my address is on every single page of my web site - anyone that chooses to order can plainly see exactly who and where they are ordering from, I sleep just fine at night...

and...this is just an example of another line in the sand, none of which effect my personal line that much.

and...

opinions vary...

all the best to you too!
