Interesting how the newest wire service bashing thread is getting more action than a positive proactive thing people could do to improve their businesses...

There's a statement there.....has something to do with why we have so much time to argue the same thing ad nauseum huh?

Geez I wonder if they solved the wire service problem over there in the new bashing thread?

Kinda lonely at the top, ain't it?

Yeah I'm still here - until they turn off the lights I guess.

2Yla's off teaching a class...

Ok, i need to know more about this i think..

Is this for high school kids, what do you do? Do you go in and teach them how to do basic arrangements? Do you get paid for it?

I have done a couple of classes with my kids classes and the teacher has asked me to go back on the 22nd of this month to help another class prepare for their holy communion. I usually do posy arrangements with them, but this is classes of 8 year olds and i dont get any business from it. I do it to help out...

Is this completely different to what you are talking about? Sorry to sound so daft:>

I just wanted to say great post Twila and great job. I've gotten all the info on the FFk stuff through greenleaf and am just getting started with training, but I've got classes lined up for summer with the ceramic studio next door. We did a soft launch over spring break and it went well. Not a full-fledge ffk, but a flower class for the kiddos and they made a vase at the studio.
Tons of teachers have been asking when I'll be starting classes, but I really don't think I'll be able to get a class in until after MD. The teachers are happy because testing will be over and it gives them a break at the end of the year.
The scouts are starting to ask about the classes too.
It is a great market. Much nicer teaching 7-12yr olds than DIY brides.

You can check out www.flowersforkids.org for more information about the program. You can also go to www.flowersandcents.org. There is a forum dedicated just to Flowers For Kids.

Flowers For Kids is a program that teaches kids where flowers come from, how to care for flowers and how to make a basic bouquet. It was initially designed for grades 4-6 and script modifications have been made now for other age groups.

It is very much like improv comedy, the kids love the program and are enthralled with it. They learn how to make "Flower Lemonade" if they don't have a sachet of flower food.

Every child goes home with flowers and a hand out on how to care for them. They also have an invitation to your shop to come in and get their FFK diploma, they take a simple three question quiz (the kids never fail) and they also get to take home two free focal flowers.

Flowers For Kids is marketing disguised as education. You can find more at www.flowersforkids.org.

Awesome, awesome program. It plants the seed of flowers in the child and parents and has immediate and long term benefits to the retailer.

Aww Erl now you gave them the "hook" and we're gonna have to kill them all.....

sorry folks - nice knowing you.

Listen - it's very dangerous and if not handled properly the lemonade can blow up, so don't try this without professional supervision.

PS (there's more to the hook tho...)

Flowers For Kids is updating its website. Should be ready in a couple of weeks.
Though there's much information about the program on both flowerchat.com and flowersandcents.org it's better to just talk to Erlene, Purplegirl, Carla, Twila, or Bloomz.

Congratulations Twila! You surely have me interested. Is it too late to start the training for this school year? Would it be better to wait until the fall?

Absolutely not Connie. Retailers can present the program to girl scouts, boys and girls clubs, kids groups at libraries, summer camps, etc. Anywhere children are.

Personally I think spring/summer is a great time to get started, you can get the program underway and people coming into your store during a slower time of year, a time you can really use your door swinging and your cash register ringing.

Just PM me, call me at 207-415-2273 or email me at [email protected] if you want to chat more about the program or setup training.

I see a new forum listed for Flowers For Kids - Yeah!!! I'm sure we will see lots of activity on that forum. Thank you so much!!!
