Lori, what time are you closing? You can close one or two hours earlier without losing a whole lot of sales. Your customers will adjust to it. That could be a practical compromise between biz and personal life.

I am open 10-4 mon tues 10-2 wed(but do deliveries in pm) 10-5 thurs and fri and 9-1 sat

I go to the market between 7-8 depending on how big my list is and how much early funeral work I have..

How about 10-2 Mon-Sat. Call it Summer time or something. This will save you 2+2+3+3 = 10 hours a week. You can do a lot in 10 hours, like... rest.

See how much sales you are making between 2-4/5 pm. If these sales are from existing customers, they will call you next day. No loss of sales. Well, not much anyway.

Perhaps you should have Wholesalers deliver to you occasionally. Consider adding Baystate to your suppliers. They are about 20 minuets from your shop. I don't know how close you live to the Boston Wholesale market.

I do not like baystate's quality...I have considered getting deliveries from fall river...

I question Bay State's quality also.....
They are bombarding me with overnight specials and the three times I have ordered from them had thrown most of it away. You who are close to the market.......sheesh.......would love that......with us over 4 hours away? I have had a buyers pass for the market just to keep track of the Boston prices to leverage prices with our wholesale trucks, not......even though they go there 3 X per week to pick up stuff.

Sounds like things are looking up for you in the horizon. You just need to hang in there.

One thing you can do that I think might help...the week you are off why don't you plan to take at the minimum of 1 hour per day and use that time to dream. No phone, no relatives, no e-mail and write down a list of things you are grateful for, a list of things you would love to have in your life and a plan on how you intend to accomplish them.

I would also suggest NOT watching the news or anything depressing. Lots of funny movies, modivation CD's (for lounging about the pool), wonderful books from inspiring authors.

Then when you go back to work, PLAN on at least 30 minutes each day and do the same thing.....read/update your grateful list, review your dreams and aspirations, read how you intend on getting these things accomplished.

Might I suggest, 1. I WILL find reliable help for those days that I need to leave.....

Is Gerbi.biz and Bay State one and the same?

I have been using Gerbi.biz recently and have received wonderful flowers. Their lilies and other flowers from California have been wonderful. I use a lot of the 1/8 boxes from Benchmark and have been very satisfied. I especially like the alstroemeria, solid aster, and spray roses. The assorted roses overnight have been fabulous. I was quite surprised at the comments about Bay State and was wondering if they were the same.

They are the same...However, I believe the quality problems that I am seeing are due to the care of the flowers at the baystate warehouse...I believe that they hold flower far too long in their boxes(delphinium sheds, roses have indents, alstro rotted). I believe that they get shipments in and use the flowers to make bouquets, then they process them to go out on the floor when they are done with the bouquets. The flowers for gerbi.com are sent straight from Miami(I think) correct me if I am wrong...

The prices are cheeaper, but no flowers are worth a cheaper price if they end up in my barrel 3 days later...and I do not like their in house replacement/credit policy...you have to chase and remember way too much....

Might be Atlanta but not Boston you are correct. I agree no product should be in the barrel three days latter. I don't have that problem. When I do need an occasional credit for bad product I just email the office. I don't have to return product and no questions ever asked.
