Can't change it if you never try. Give up and they win.

I honestly truly gave it my best try, for quite a number of years. I have a folder on my desk right now labeled "Crusade" I dug out of my file cabinet and can't bring myself to throw away, that is at least 4" thick of stuff I tried, including making (and curculating) THE first OG list and at the top it says "Lets all refuse their orders".

I finally surrendered.

and a definition of Surrender I often use in recovery programs is:

"To join the winning side."

So, why not try to beat them at their own game. I am in the process of giving it a try.

Yes yes yes and a thousand times yes.

That's been my mission for quite a few years now, and it is way more productive in my world than fighting a losing battle.

Chezdoodle you nailed it honey. Thank you.

Holleee pooper scooper you actually pay arrangers that much???? SRSLY?
That's the cost after payroll, employer matching taxes and such...(better look at your's ;) )

All the while continuing to fill.... BOSS<< /shake head

Dude, ya know....oh never mind...

I done got groaned at.

I'm still relitively new in the floral world but from what I see its time for me to try a different angle against these non-local dOG types. I'm starting to show up on the first pages of google and Bing for florist in Minneapolis so I'm just going to stick with that method of competing.Really, how else can a florist compete against them other than showing up above them in SEO results? Without better websites, images, and SEO results I just don't see it ever happening. Groan away!!

When I say beat them at their own game, I am not talking about gathering outside your own area, I am talking about dominating in your own area, including local geared web sites.

I can't let a debate such as this exist without my two cents...

ANYTHING little thing you do to hurt the monster is worth the time and effort. Tell one consumer how they are ripped off by the WS and OG and you are making strides in the fight. Consumers ARE catching on and one by one they are spreading the word via twitter, facebook, email, telephone, and even driveway meetings all over the U.S. It is a snowball speeding down the hill growing bigger with every turn. Giving up is not in the entreprenurial vocabulary or spirit. I may not defeat them in my lifetime, but I am content knowing that I got a few from them and put a big dent in my local area. If this happens in my area, you bet I will go talk to all florists in the area and do SOMETHING. I will make appointments with every funeral director in my area also. Heck, I will host a feast at a great steakhouse for all funeral directors and florists on my dime for the opportunity to find a solution. Sitting idle isn't an option when the wolf is knocking at your door.

Does anyone know what commission 1800 pays to FH???

Likely this structure.

http://affiliateprogram.1800flowers.com/

Thought I'd add this part...

And it couldn't be easier. After you sign up, you'll have your own Affiliate Management account, where you can create links to the 1-800-FLOWERS.COM home page or to any product page. All you need to do is put these links on your site, sit back, and watch the money roll in!

On further thought. Over the past little while, I have seen many flower shops that run Affiliate programs as well. It's a matter of playing the game the way it's won, not playing the game you want to play!

Yes we did have that in our town. I told the funeral director about 800 flowers practices and they took it down. They now have a list of the local florists and a link to my web site. It did take some time but it has been well worth informing them.
