Video Palm Weaving Techniques by Phil Rulloda

It doesn't come up on my computer, so, I must not have one installed. The one I tried to install my anti-virus stopped. Just need a site to install from that is OK

Okay, here is today's play-time. I am somewhat satisfied with the arrangement, but I would like to know how to better manipulate the shape of the "boat" as I would like a more dramatic crescent shape.

Maybe I'd better go back and view the vid again.

The two weaves on top are one branch of Emerald. I have found that a little shot of Basil paint and some leaf shine go a long way to "help" the emerald look better.

Creating the various braids is really fun and with practice..........quite easy. They are visually impressive and present a lot of visual value to a design. You can use the weaves with tropicals or more domestic flowers.....However, the weaves are strongly linear...so they best complement linear and forma-linear design styles.

Great video, and definitley worth the price of admission.
I first saw Phil's work in Palm Desert at an AIFD symposium I can't remember the year... maybe 1998?...he made an awesome arrangement to greet us in the hotel lobby. I was stunned by the beauty of an arangement that was constructed completely of foliages. Some looked like nature intended, like leaves, others were amazing works of art...ti leaves made to look like peonies, palms made to resemble intricate woven quilts.
I have tried to figure out how he did it for years. Now I can finally thank him personally for the inspiration he gifted to me.
Thank you Phil.
You are awesome.
And like it or not, I will never forget you, or your gift.

When your anti-virus stops you, there should be a little peachy-colored shaded area below your browser and above the page. Click on that to manage, it should ask you if you trust the site. Click yes and install. It will be alright. Or, you can turn off your anti-virus while you install, then turn it back on.

One quick note - I also do a lot of the weaves as taught by Phil and if you have a problem with the spines of the palm foliages breaking.........particularly in braiding the nautilus shell.......MAKE SURE YOU ARE WORKING ON THE BACK SIDE OF THE LEAF !

The leaf is placed face down......when you bend the leaf up to start the crescent shape of the shell.......you are bending the leaf in the direction it would naturally go and therefore, no breaking.

Okay, finally became ambidextrous and although not as "phine as Phil's"..... the entire crew at the nurses station at the hospital all ooohed and aaahhhed when I came in with it :)

Finally got a FLV to install. Thanks for all your help. Great video. I've done some weaving on my own not knowing for sure what to do. This was great to see, I can't wait to get my palms.
