ProFlowers delivery at funeral home

David -

Were it not for the generosity of the funeral home, the flowers would have just been laid on a table or on the floor to die. The FH provided the vase since none was included in the box (see first post.)

There's also a difference between sending flowers like this to a residence and having them shipped to a FH to be placed on public display. Recognition of the sender is often part of the desired response. In this case, the recognition would be 'poor and cheap'.

I wonder if the person made it themselves and dropped it off at the funeral home.
Maybe It didn't come from a flower shop at all.???

edit to say we don't have Pro flowers in Canada that I know of.
Wow they just dropped cut flowers at a funeral?
oh boy...

We had a family here go to a grocery store in another town buy the flowers and make the arrangements themselves . I was just hoping no one thought they came from my shop. I've even had people come in and buy script to put on plants that they brought in themselves.
So you could be right who knows that the person bought the flowers in themselves.

no, this was a drop ship box from ProFlowers that arrived at the funeral home.

Perhaps they were not meant to be put on public display but simply given to the recipeint to take home.

In all my years in this biz, we've never once had a FH delivery with instructions to not have the flowers displayed and to just give them to the deceased's family. Has it ever happened at your shop?

I do get your point and suppose it is remotely possible. Far more likely that the sender was persuaded by the PF image and did not realize the product arrived in a far less impressive condition.

I concur completely with this. I have never had anything ordered through me that was supposed to be kept private. I have seen many scenarios over the years, but this is not one of them. I DO quite often have people trying to save a few dollars when sending flowers to the funeral home or hospital by saying "Oh, don't bother with a vase, I'm sure they, (the funeral home, business, hospital, etc.) have TONS of vases."

This is much more likely.

It is also much more likely that the person who ordered this thought it would look exactly like the bouquet pictured sans the vase, and had no clue that it would come in bud form. They probably don't even realize the flowers COME in bud form.

Seriously. I would put money on it.

Not as you stated it. I have had international and wire service orders request wrapped flowers be sent to the funeral home. I have just sent in a vase. I have told senders from out of the country that it's proper to send in a vase here to funeral homes. I'm sure flowers in a container would be more welcome. I would think many recipients would enjoy and be thankful for the thought of box flowers even though there are better ways to send. My point is to see through the recipients and the consumer mind not necessarily through ours.

David, as you have stated, you send it in a vase because it is more appropriate in our culture, this is the exact point..For eons, people have depended on the floral business to guide them through this process, every single day I have people call and have no idea what to order or what to say on a card for a funeral, these wbsites leave all of that up to the consumer and if the consumer picks up the phone chances are the sales clerk has little to no idea what is proper to send either. The funeral directors get frustrated, families are underwhelmed and consumers are left with a bad taste in their mouth if they ever find out their gift was ill recieved....

As far as the flowers, even though they were very green and I probably wouldn't have been ready to send to a funeral or wedding where they have to be prime for at least 4 more days, I am sure they family will enjoy them for 14 or so days, which in the grand scheme is great value wise, but 90% of funeral orders the most important in upon recieving...a cardborad box with green pods in it is dissapointing until at least 5 days in.....then all of a sudden they are going to be happy with it..
