NICE work! LOVED the composite rose corsage and the armband was super cool! All the designs were amazing and the pics were great. Thanks so much for sharing!

THOSE ARE FANTASTIC CHERRIE - Kudos to your girl !

The school called and asked.
It was a slow day, so I said yes.
It was really fun.
It's not the closest high school to me, but I think I'm about the closest
flower shop to the school. I had lots of flyers printed up. Their prom is a month away. We'll see.....

Now the big question - how can you spread this out to other schools?

How do you gage the follow through to determine if it is a good use of your time and resources.

We are going to count on you to share your results at the end of the season.

This was not one of my main 2 high schools.

I jokingly call myself the "Corsage Queen of North Denver".
I'll do 300 - 400 or so during the season.
Maybe more this year. I found out yesterday that a major shop near me, a chain shop, is gone!!! Scary to think how many I might be doing.

At my main two high schools, I donate the royalty flowers, in turn, they plaster the schools with posters.
I don't charge a lot, but, enough. Try to find the best prices on products to use.
My corsages run from $23 - $40 or so. More, if they add a lot of blingy stuff. A very basic corsage on a velcro wristlette (don't like elastic they stretch out). with 3 spray roses, ribbon, and bb cost $16.00. I am such an anal nut, that I use fabric glue and glue never wilt leaves on the white strap.
I love doing them and the good it brings to do a nice job for the kids.
Their moms love me and bring in the pictures they take of the kid's ensembles. I can be a hero!! This has been one of my best community building efforts through the years. I have been getting several weddings a year recently, from young people that I have done their prom stuff. I take pride in the fact that by doing a good job on their proms, I can teach them about good floristry. They can see the difference of their corsages to the supermarkets.

As far as marketing Friday's project. I really didn't know what to expect. I had a table and brought my laptop to do a slide show of body flowers. I also printed up about 350 flyers with a couple of corsage pics, name of shop, address, phone number, and web address - I have a corsage page on my web site. Will be updating - uh - today?
For the special on the flyer - Buy your corsage at Cherry Blossoms and get a free rose for your date - better yet, for HER MOM.
I like that, have done it several times through the years.

We didn't distribute many flyers at the show, but the principle picked them up and will have them in the front office and counselor's offices.

I also asked them to do a story about me in their school newspaper.
I'll follow up on that on Monday.

Doing a good job for the kids is about the best community project there is. I just recently hired a designer (now gone) who exclaimed several times how much she hated corsages - I told her she better get over that attitude and quick! She didn't.

A side note - a BIG THANKS to Rhonda!!!! I had a corsage making stand built and it is great!! Puts the corsages at the right height and I am not futzing around with them. Saved a lot of time. I love it, love it, love it, love it!!!!!!!
Dfisher - if you do get fritz designs to make her holder - you better share the profits with her.

Thanks Cherrie,
Great ideas and and follow through. You are repeating a lot of things that other florists are telling us about how prom has extra benefits when it comes to the future. Having the moms come in the shop is a great traffic builder and it seems they do it on their own - GREAT!!!

I love the things you are doing.

I hope the school does the story for you. You may want to tell the school you have your photos to share with them. That will even have a bigger impact to the story.

No we did not make any of the racks - no one answered back that they would like us to, so I am guessing with her easy instructions, folks did them on their own.

I don't know how to attach a link

Wristlet holder

Maybe that worked.

It was a post from Rhonda.
She showed a picture. Very simple concept and easy to make.
I could kiss her!!!

another idea is to make a T out of PVC pipe. Buy 3" pipe, a T fitting, a 3" flange, and a board to use as a base. Cut a length of pipe equal to the height you want to work at off your desk. Then cut 2 equal lengths to "stick out the side" of the T fitting. Insert the first length in, then the T fitting, then the ones that "stick out the side". You can glue it all together, but I like being able to break stuff down to store.

Cherrie, i so hope this works out for you. Your work is absolutely fab, some of the nicest corsages i have seen.

If you ever get any time i would love to see an online tutorial step by step of some of them, particularly the upper arm one and the anthurium one. Loved it, this is definately one of my weaker spots which means i dont market it as much as i should.

In the uk, proms are getting big now. When i left school we had a leavers disco but now they are doing the prom thing with the dress, limos etc etc.. I would love to be able to offer the funky and modern stuff that you do. I think i will go ahead and have a bash at them.

Thanks for inspiring!!

I have one to do in April. I'm working now at night making wrist and armbands with the decorative wire while watching TV.
Our school will not allow any advertising for prom, just a mention of "Order Your Flowers Early"....but the Junior Class Advisor asked me to do the flowers for their fashion show.
The Show this weekend featured a design contest on body flowers...should have entered but my flowers just didn't look good enough on Sunday after not being cooled since Friday when I left to go.

next idea for hubby to make is one that has "legs" that I can move up and down to use on different benches. I have three different heights in benches here.

My wife loves it when I say this. it is from a show here on PBS called the Red/Green Show:

"If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."

To which I add, "and boy am I handy."

There are several prom threads around, - I am putting this here......if need be, one of the mods can move it to the most appropriate prom thread.

This was an idea I used last year to great effect.

You know those green plastic straws that come on gerbera stems. I took those, cut them into lengths slightly shorter than the length of the corsage, then on top of the wristlet I glued on the straw....then covered that with my leaves, bow, and corsage base.

I told each and every guy about that little straw.....That was there for them to write a small love note, roll it up, and slip it into the straw for her to read later in the evening.
