gm needs to start building flex fuel cars here in the us. (Google flex fuel cars and Brazil to read more)
We need to ramp up the availability of ethanol/flex fuel instead of petroleum (that would get us out of bed with the middle east) Many universities working on the ability to use AG waste products for conversion into ethanol (think switch grass and corn cobs and stalks) instead of food. More $$ should be given to complete this work.
Start working to revamp our transportation systems (ie trains, trucks) into flex fuel vehicles - again no more dependence on the middle east.
Problem is the car company execs are in bed with big oil. So if they want $$- fire the execs and bring in some forward thinking suits who are less concerned with their golden parachutes and short term bonuses.
