Here’s the scoop from the Teleflora sales meeting that ended just hours ago.

Low Sending Fee

Currently if a shop does not send 20 orders or more per month the member is subject to a 19.95 “Low Sending Fee†(Penalty) this is being raised to 25 orders.

Reciprocity Surcharge (A holdover from AFS)

Currently if a shop does not maintain a ratio of at least 1 outgoing order to every 6 incoming orders the shop is assessed a “reciprocity surcharge†of 3% of the gross amount of the orders filled in that month. This will change to 1 outgoing to every 5 orders and the % will increase to 5%. If a shop falls into this category just once they are placed in what is jokingly referred to as “reciprocity surcharge jail†and the shop incurs this 5% penalty for 12 full months regardless of the ratio.

When are the BIG 2 wire services going to stop……NEVER!!!!!! Why? Because florists do not read their statements, do not know how reconcile them even if they did read them and there has never been enough complaining to get their attention. If you call them on it they will probably reverse the charges if you don’t they will just continue to take your money. WAKE UP RETAIL FLORISTS and STOP BEING TAKEN ADVANTAGE OF.

Warning: Please Read

Reciprocity surcharge of 5% of your incoming orders incurred if you send a ration of at least 1 order for every 5 you receive.

5-1

If you don’t send 20 orders per month you are assessed a 19.95 low sending (penalty

The only reason they do this is to get orders from you so you don't pay those charge. They are probably doing this to cover the loss of orders usually sent teleflora but goes FTD when they have a contest through the mercury.
Now if I was to runa wire service to make it successful I would eliminate some charges, talk with florists and make it more friendly florist wire service and then you would see new people joining.
I am sure there is lots of things we don't know about on their inside. they are there to make money like us, but one day it will be too much and we will start dropping like flies. Maybe then they will wake up.
It may come a time that we will start using the old phone system again and go directly witht he florist. Then again that is why they are charging us .75 cents for those phone in orders.
Another reason to cut something out from them to cover the other cost.
At least in my town I have a chance of doing it since I am the only ftd shop and we are only 2 teleflora shop.
One thing I am not afraid to say when I get a phone call from them, how expensive it is coming to.
Maybe Bloosom won't look so bad in the near future.
I can say NO and I do it often

Thanks Peter for the low down on this, something else to think about over Thanksgiving weekend.

We have been getting petty when things go up like Dove we cancel some service such as their publications sort of "tit for tat" but what the heck hit back is what I say.

That's what Blossoms Network is all about, providing choices and eliminating those pesky charges,+ having input from members.

My personal opinion is there's lots of money for everyone, money for the Florists and money for the Wire services, but the Wire services shouldn't be greedy.

Let me know when you are ready to "BLOSSOM" Luc. :)

There is going to be a TIME when...

Those WS folks cannot get their orders filled because of the nickle and diming in the fee structure. We just pick up the phone and call those orders out DIRECT. Charge for your service and use a CC with some sort of Benifit such as Flyer Miles or Rebates for every purchace....heck TF or FTD ain't going to fly you for FREE are they??

Peter I dought it was a rumor...there are many Grumblings withing the ?Company and some folks just tell it like it is. It's those dogon Cheerleaders who think everyone should just BEND OVER

Only ones bending over and having a good time is the Cheerleaders and before long they will come to understand it's not such a good thing to be Bending over so often.

The big time losers are going to be the Big 2 when more and more of the smaller shops find out what's a coming, they will be filled with only the OG's left over. I know I won't take OG's they can go pound sand as someone here put it the other day.

I feel truly bad for those who don't know what's coming down the line till it's too late.

Doug you sound like my REP

Question,

Blue Osyter Cult, are you getting 20% plus your service when you call out your orders direct?

Doug

I could care less about getting a 20% fee freebee or a REBATE if that matters to you...That is what is WRONG with the Wire Service game today. Why should sending out Flowers for Consumers equate to a Commision????OH I get it..because of the Nickle and Diming of the Wire Services?!!!What is wrong with this picture? I should be happy to know that a Florist who has to fill my customers order is making 70 cents on the dollar? HOG WASH. Let's get it back to where it should be....No One needs a TF or FTD to Send Flowers out.

That's the conclusion that a lot of us are coming to. We're currently FTD and Teleflora and we'll likely only be one of those after Xmas.

Blue I will take it as a "no" to collecting a commission when you
call your orders out direct.

Just asking because I am trying get a feel for what other florists are doing and thinking.

Thanks, Doug

Sorry about that Doug...

I just get upset at the thought of all these SFO's who just get welcomed into the "Game" and when I see that the only ones who are failing are the Fillers who don't pay attention to what is happening.

I think that these WS's are just dangling a Carrot..(container) to the Public and we members have to put up with the "Oh I thought you were TF why don't you have the blah blah container?. I don't like to have to explain to them about how much it really cost US to be able to sell that junk. Hey again sorry for the misunderstanding...I'm really a super guy who will not let the WS's pick pocket me anymore.
Take care.

THIS is a GREAT thread.....

I LOVE this...keep it going!!
Gone are the days when florists were joined at the "clearinghouse cafe" to cajole over the "good times" in the flower industry.
For those of us left, that "understand" what's at stake, and what's going on, have ALREADY begun to swing the path of this NEW era in floristry!!
The wire services CANNOT be to you, what they once were, unless you want to ruin your business, and unless YOU, the FLORIST, decide you WISH to support the wire service welfare schemes, we're going to HAVE TO turn to alternatives, such as phoning out orders direct, or alternatives such as Blossom's, although, I DO STILL have a problem with the 80/20 split.
The filling florist needs MORE MONEY these days to fill, or the filling florist WON'T be there NEXT TIME you need an order filled"there"!
The technoligy is MORE than available to allow florists to send orders between each other WITHOUT ANY intervention from wire services, or WS look alikes.
FTD seems to have "grasped" this danger signal to their business, and have gone all out to survive and prosper, with OR without us, and TF seems a little behind, and has decided to play "catch up" at it's members expense.
The problem for TF, is that they are just far enough behind, I can forsee them alienating MORE and MORE florist members over the next year or so, and those of you hoping to hang your hats on the TF ONLY coat rack, better take a SECOND HARD LOOK!!
TF has RUN OUT of new "florist" customers, FTD is not THAT far behind, and as I said earlier, the free for all has begun.

While working in Wyoming, we worked in conjuction with the Barbershoppers in Lambton for Valentines Day...for a fee they would sing and deliver the roses. It was a great fundraiser for them, and was good for us as well in that we were able to push the "unique" romantic gesture.

Got the same letter today Mikey. They even had my name properley spelled out. Seem they have done their work and researched us out.

Check this out...someone was really thinking!!
Mike

Other than the singing part of it. I dont' see any difference in it than what my company does.

"First, to florists we bring a simpler and less expensive wire service that does everything they require. There is no equipment to buy or rent, and the transaction fees are extremely low. This is a service no florist can afford to be without."

If they think they will have 1 shop in each Major City/location by Jan. 01/04 I've got news for them. They won't make back what they spent in postage.
