oh they go round and round. Chamois calls for Barbee and Barbees answers back , if she does not go to Chamois it goes something like this... Chamois says "Chamois a good girl?" Barbee says, yes Chamois, your a good girl! Chamois says, "Barbee come here" Barbee says, not right now Chamois, Chamois says "Barbee love Chamois?"

This could go on for an hour

I'm enthralled by birds, domesticated and in the wild.

My friend from highschool had an African parrot named Becky. They brought her back on the airplane with them when they returned to Canada following their missionary work. They regretted teaching her how to sing O Canada as she decided she would sing that incessantly during her journey...they could here her all over the plane and every airport. She had a vocabulary of 200 words, phrases and sounds (flushing toilet was hysterical). She loved to ride around on my shoulder (and poop down my back on occasion). She lived a good life.

African Grays are one of the best talking parrots.
I have a Blue-Front Amazon parrot. She (?) can bark just like my dogs, when the phone rings and you pick it up, she immediately says "Hello?" She calls my name exactly the same way my wife does when she calls me from upstairs, She can do either half of the "wolf" whistle and waits for you to do the other half. She immitates the sound of the computer keyboard, plus several other things.
However, she can be very temperamental and has sharp claws and a beak that can turn the bravest man into a sissy. :)

we also have an African Grey, her name is Poombah. She is actually the ruler of this house hold :) Like Georges Amazon, she also answers the phone. But she also rings like the phone. I can not tell you how many times we have ran to get the phone and it was Poombah ringing. At one time, in my pre florist days, I had an office in my house where I had a phone line and a fax line as well as the house hold phone in the living room. Poombah could ring like all three phones. She also knew which voice to answer which phone with. If the house phone rang, she would answer it in my wifes voice. if the office phone rang she would answer in my voice and if the fax line rang she would beep like a fax tone. Her favorite other noise is a phaser blast from the star wars movies...

I am really enjoying all the posts with photos of pets! Jbarb, that IS an amazing photo of your bird.

We once had rabbits (4) and birds (3 cockatiels, 2 lovebirds, and a yellow crested amazon parrot). The parrot was a rescue from a busted drug dealer (so we were told!) and he used to say stuff like, gooood stuuuuf, and cerveza (beer in Spanish), and often he would scream Rudy! Poor guy had some digestive problems-- the vet said it appeard his pelvic area had been crushed at some point in his life! He also hated women. They really do have their own personalities! But once the rabbits and the birds left us, we decided (with a kid now in the picture) to stick with a cat and a dog...

Hey Ryan...what makes Joey perverted? Enquiring minds want to know...maybe. ;)

It involves dirty deeds, rabbit instinct, and things no mammal should do to his brother.

Plus, he has this wrinkled forehead and beady black eyes that seem to belong attached to an overcoat near a dirty theatre. I keep waiting for him to flash me, snicker and then run away .... it's creepy :)

When I had rabbits, I read a book called "The Secret Life of Rabbits" all about rabbit behavior, biology and care... what I read there truly would make you suspicious of rabbits! Especially their food recycling program:pblush:

Hey Jim , do you still have the hamster that plays with himself or did one of your birds get to him?

Blossom

I had a rabbit (Blossom), and one morning she was just lying there dead. She was only three years old and I have no idea why she died. I had an Irish Setter (Ripley) at the time also and Blossom used to attack Ripley and Ripley would just give her dirty looks.
My sister is the one holding Blossom.

Birds

We had parakeets when I was young and I never really got into them. I could never understand how people got into birds as pets. Then my good friend got a cockatiel. Oh man, did that bird have personality and when I would go visit my friend on my day off that bird (Angel) loved me. She was always on me and for some strange reason just loved to be on me. I learned to see birds in a whole new light. that bird died, she got another one and that one is completely different from Angel. This one is Gizmo and is a male and is quite the contrary. He lets me hold him for a minute then tries to find his mom (my friend). He's a mama's boy I guess.:) She also has two parakeets that fly around her house and they are a complete entertainment show in and of themselves. One is dominant and the other one doesn't like it so gets very lippy. It's pretty funny!

Ok...if I am able to get a roll of film on to a CD, is it possible for me to post pics of Elmo and George? So many cute, handsome, pretty family members being shown here...I want to drag and brag too. ;):cat: :cat:

Now, if this isn't thread hijacking I don't know what is! ;)
Smart bird!

Yeesh, I'm feeling like I'm in pet deprevation. All I have is a cat and a fish.

Audra

Ah but Audra...I'll bet it's a GREAT cat and a WONDERFUL fish. :)

LOL. I don't know about great.

I'll take a picture of her when I get home - my mother says she's Biafran - weighs a whooping 4 1/2 lbs.

Audra

Are you talking about the fish or the cat? ;)

4 1/2 lb fish = lunch for two.

4 1/2 lb cat = needing a lunch for two... :catclock:
