Sending only Wire service Shops

This might be a dumb question but if sending is so attractive and profitable and filling so unprofitable, why don't they just even things out more? Maybe the sending shop gets only their wire service charge and 10% or just their service charge and the filling florist gets more of the money. I think people would still send because they don't want to turn away their customer.

Sarah, you hit the nail right on the head...It would make the OGS business not as profitable and orders would be down and membership would suffer and so on and so on...

I'm sorry you feel sending only shops aren't playing fairly and are unethical. I am and I know quite a few sending only shops and they do this because they can no longer afford to be a full member and/or are unhappy with how the relay may have progressed or the alternatives methods of sending orders. I did my sums and to be perfectly honest they just didn't add up at all for my business. Because I'm such a small shop I receive very few and send out only a handful a month, mainly aboard. The relay membership charges went up so much that nearly all my profit went on covering that membership bill I would make about 10% tops of the order value. We do receive very good commission on the orders but to be trueful is all I took was the relay charge for my services then I would be happy,if the executing florist was given a hell of alot more of the order value as they need it. I'm not a OG, I'm a B and M florist just trying to survive like so many others and we do what is best primarily for our business and our customers. I quite often tell customers that are on the telephone if I know they have been on the internet to look up a local florist and give them names and numbers if possible - I have given out 2 number today.

This might also make the business of being an OG less attractive.

You got that right! I also heard the new rebate number fo From You to jump ship was $7 per. order. So million orders at $14.95, minus all discounts (20% usually for first time buyers), then add back in $7 per. order for rebate. All they have is phones, space and employees (no cogs) which takes out so many issues out of the profitable table. Uhmmmmmmmmmm..........
