Have any of you had any experience with the six foot roses this holiday? Today, I delivered with a driver one of these arrangements to a corporate headquarters. I had to go to actually put it together on site because they were too tall to deliver in a vase. There were about 50 - 75 people that came over see this event in the offices.

They have been a tremendous purblic relations tool. All the local TV stations have been by to film them and each station is putting it on the evening news tonight.

We have sold several dozen already at $300.00 per dozen. We are getting so much mileage from the PR.

What a great opportunity to brag about your flowers, and flowers in general. An audience, a gorgeous design, and a custom onsite set up by an industry veteran. Some day, we'll try them here. I have one customer who I think would love them, but he rarely buys for V-day. food for thought!

Carol!
Great idea to use those roses, and to desgin no location. Some PR!
Have a great week, it is shaping up nicely at our place too.
Take care,

Carol,
We haven't seen them. Do you have any pics? How do they hold up? Do you have a variety name?

If you go to the Bice's Web site Bicesflorist.com , you can click on a little note unter the name and watch a youtube video. These roses were quickly thrown together and a designer and owner were trying to be funny, but, one of the other employees put it on you tube. As we experimented with them, we perfected the design.

I ended up doing nothing on the 14th except go to on site locations all day long with a driver. We went to homes, businesses, doctor's offices, etc. Every single time, a crowd would gather and ask lots of questions. When I went to homes, they would immediately call in all their neighbors to watch me do the magic. At businesses, people would say, so that's the six foot roses we saw on TV. In every instance, we were a huge hit.

I can't think of anything that has been a better PR promotion than this has been. Of course, if anyone else in the Ft. Worth/Dallas area had them, it would not have been as effective. I think this might have been the biggest Valentine's ever for Bices (but, I am only guessing).

Actually, I just went to the website to double check to see if the link was still there and found that there are three links. One is of the television chanel Valentine rose story. The reporter actually went on one of the deliveries and filmed the whole thing. You might find the coverage interesting.

I love these for wedding work, as well, and just an FYI for the ones that fell apart, I find they do better when put in hot water, when conditioning them, and they do last a long time that way, also Carol way to go, a local shop in my area well around 30 miles away was on the news tellig folks they were like something new on the market, and Bride that I worked with many moons ago called them down on it, So the moral of the story is that make sure, not to say wrong things in PR.

Also Bob I think that Roy Huff in your area carries them.

Most of our "Epic" Roses fell apart in the cooler before Valentine's Day. Very disappointing.

Mike

I didn't see any that were bad in all we got. A couple of them had started the bent neck....but, I turned them upside down in a barrel of warm water for about an hour and recut them and they were fine.

We did the "quick dip" and then put them in floral preservative water that was warm when they came in. I have had such good luck with bringing roses back to life by submerging them in warm water. Before I went on the deliveries, I submerged each dozen roses that I designed for a while to insure good vase life.

One of the pluses of the on site designing was that I could give the recipient a lesson on how to keep the roses alive longer. I gave them plenty of advise and flower food. I even showed them how to root the curly willow and plant it after the roses were gone.....that peaked the interest of several people.

I have many curly willow trees along one of my lot lines and am able to supply the best curly willow most of the year to Bices. It is so easy to grow and the recipients seemed to appreciate the extra value of maybe getting a real tree out of the deal.

Carol,

That video on your website was hysterical! So...who was the cutie parading around the roses? Who was doing all the laughing in the background? Good on ya, girl! Great PR and awesome clip on your site.

I saw these when they first came out a few years back in a show in Ecuador. They were quite impressive. Couldn't see much use for them outside party work. Hats of to Carol for doing a great job getting wonderful p.r. using them.

One note about the bent necks. If you haven't tried the new rose food by Floralife or Chrysal you should give it a try. In my tests they really improve the life of roses over regular flower food. The come in both liquid and powder form.

Dean, I haven't heard from you for a long time. I was wondering if you were still in the business. For those that don't know Dean, he really knows his care and handling and keeps up with so much of the techinal things we should know about flowers. If you have a question, he is a great one to give you information. Anyway, good to see you posting.

Hi Diane, Wasn't that clip hysterical? They really didin't know they were being recorded. The cutie parading around the roses was the design room manager and she has a great sense of humor as you can see.

The really loud laugh was from a sales girl that was standing next to the microphone, but, didn't know it was on. She also has a great sense of humor and an infectious laugh. The customers love her.

Did you go the bicesflorist.com website and click on the the other two news releases? They were titled "The New Rose of Texas" and WFAA Rose Report.
These were done by one of the local TV chanels and were definitely a step up over the youtube.

The roses were really great fun to have this Valentine's. I am not sure we could pull in so much PR if we did that again. We are trying to come up with a gimmick for next year right now that might top this.

Carol,

Still around, just got tired of posting on message boards. Used to be addicted to them and checked them every few minutes. Now check them maybe 2 or three times a month.

When I saw the post by you on the 6 foot roses couldn't resist making a comment.

Carol,

Well...heck, yeah! I missed the other video on your site. Thanks for pointing it out! I just love the title "The New Rose Of Texas!" OK...the video says the roses were $300.00, but your site says $375.00? Anywho...folks in Texas are too chill for us Jersey gals! The lady in the office that received the roses was way too cool, calm and collected for me! I would have been crazy if someone sent me those beauties! The video at your shop with the "cutie" and the "screamer" were more to my Jersey gal style! Looks like you find time to have fun at your shop...that is awesome! Outrageously cool stuff, Carol! Congrats!

I noticed the price difference on the website also, but, what do I know. You are right about the lady not making enough noise about the roses. Actually, I think they told her a little before what was happening so they could get her permission to air the segment. (thus, the lack of surprise)

I promise you that everyone I set up did not know ahead of time and I heard lots of screams, crying, laughing, and every emotion you can imagine. Everyone was stunned when I showed up in their place. And every recipient seemed to love the whole ambiance.

They had some six foot roses on display in the lobby at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas. I took a few pics, pardon the poor quality:
