Smithsonian Flowers by FTD

Can I just say that we definitely believe drop shipping competes with local shops? Based on research, we think it takes about $500 million in sales away from local florists each year - and I think that your share of that $500 million could probably change the way you feel about how well your shop is (or is not) doing. Our data's explained on the savetheflorists.com site, if you hadn't yet seen it.
OG's are hurting florists just as much if not more than drop ship, yet the WS continue to allow OG members and have infact become OG's competing with us.

But Nicole will tell you it is all for the greater good in keeping those orders with a real florist...I am glad to say that today starts my process in becoming wire service free, 800 flowers is gone, now I must decide if TF is next...I do love being part of the board but still not sure that the service is worth my hard earned dollars, It seems as thought I reject more orders than I take because they are originating at a company that I choose not to dop business with...It is not making much sense these days...

Back to this thought:

I attended a book club meeting today of 12 ladies. They all were talking about what their children had sent them for Mother's Day. Many of them had flowers sent to them. The host's house had 3 different flowers from her 3 children, so, it was interesting to see.

The loose alstromeria flowers from PRO Flowers were pathetic and her daughter did see them, which gave me a chance to explain to the group why they shouldn't just call 800 numbers. The other two were from florists and were just okay.

Two of the ladies said they got flowers from FTD SEND or ProFlowers. They both complained about the quality, etc and got replacements. But, they both said they would never tell their son that their flowers were not good because they appreciated the thought so very much. ........and that is why these business can stay in business..... their sons were thanked for beautiful flowers and therefore will continue using those deliverers for years to come.

But, it sure did give me a chance to educate several flower buyers.

I think FTD is very deceptive to their consumers....I went on to their website Saturday -- after I had had it with 39.99 orders....they were advertising $10.00 off...so they had people believing they were getting a 49.99 order for 39.99....they never asked me if I would do it for $10.00 less....THEN when they checked out they were charged $18.99 service fee, so they spent 58.98 and got a $30.00 arrangement...how sad...for the buyer, the recipient and the florist...the only winner is FTD.

Teleflora has a 14.99 service fee also....didn't see a $10.00 off, but sells arrangements too cheap for the florist to make money either

BOSS's Quote of the day!

Yes it is sad....

But, the filler fools that continue to assist in the deception of the consumer, by filling these orders are also at fault.

That is true, but without orders, I'll go under....am trying to educate myself to get more internet orders, learn social media, get a better conversion rate, but until then......I'm stuck in the middle

Are you sure? If your orders are $40, and you get what, $25 and out of that you need to pay for delivery, product, labor, and membership dues.......I'm asking.......ARE YOU SURE?

I fail to see the link with the Smithsonian other than the name. They are just ordinary loose wrapped bouquets-pretty-but ordinary. I would have thought it they would have had some heirloom flowers or some sort of tie to art or history. I really don't get it. What's the point of linking your name with something if it has no meaning? Oh, yeah, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Now, a real florist could really so this right. A real florist could mimic designs in famous paintings....Van Gogh's Sunflowers, gorgeous Flemish florals from the Dutch Masters-of course a real florist couldn't afford the Smithsonian name, but they could call it something more generic like the "Museum Collection".
