So.....do you think I'm doing the right thing?

I am a dork for sure...a cookie eating dork! Glad I could make you laugh, Lynda! Something tells me it doesn't take much..........

I join the dork club. :) I laughed out loud too.

I seen too many fishy things- I'm so cynical though....but I try hard not to be.
Lots of reasons to be cynical- for example-

I had one boss call me at home once all proud that someone came in the shop with a big crystal vase, left a BLANK check and said "Oh just fill it out for whatever it comes out to." Como?? UM....I smell a rat......Told boss "no, you din't really do it did you?" Boss says "yeah, why not." Oh mother of gawd....
yep, check bounced..actually account was closed- IIRC

Another boss got a big old order a number of years back, for about $275 a HUGE order for us at the time. For snacks and stuff....."oh and bring a couple of coffee cups" hummm,,,,,smelled a rat then too. They said the "couple" that was to get the basket of junk food "please no fruit" was on their honeymoon.... In the biggest rat hole nasty gross hotel in the town, was LITERALLY a trailer turned into a "hotel". And not even a nice trailer! I tell the boss,,,"um I don't know about this, sounds like a couple of meth heads with the munchies." FYI- I have personally known people with meth addiction, NOT pretty.
Yep, credit card was stolen.

And a number of years ago I got some e-orders a few days apart, big orders. Sort of looked a little weird, wasn't too sure, asked boss "whaddya think?" was for about $100 each IIRC, Boss said send it and we will see....yep, stolen card again.

Cookies or not- Trust your gut... BTW I love golden oreos dunked in 2% lactose free milk. but I will eat the whole package, so I don't eat them at all. I love cookies. They hate me. the jerks.

I've had a couple of bad/suspicious web orders lately that I have refused. I wonder if they see a site that looks more small town florist like and think we are too stupid to suspect anything. In my case they were all going out of state and from out of state. I told them to find a local flower shop in the town they wanted delivery. Never heard back.

I don't think they specifically choose someone small town florist-y looking. We get more "fake" orders though OG's that slip through their cracks than do ours. GUT reactions are always the best indicators and not something OG's are capable of having ;-) Typically when they are trying to use a fake card they send through multiple shops online at the same time figuring SOMETHING will make it through.

What we see most often is that the address for the cardholder is correct (when googled has a different name for that address) but the name and phoen number are different. If we have the ability to treck down the actual card owner we call them directly and let them know.

Amazingly, the CC company is just not that interested most of the time unless you are the actual card holder.

Lucky us, we get alot of this because of the travel industry down here - lots from cruise ships.

We do not fill any orders that are remotely susupicious, unless we are able to contact the customer and confirm the details. It is not unusual to get orders from people who want the flowers delivered to themselves, or have no card message, or send multiple orders and/or are extremely extravagant. Whenever we are in doubt, we call the customer to confirm everything. Our instincts are mostly correct and we never hear from them again.
