Anyone have a great remedy for splits on your fingers? We get them every
year, a small split on the tip of the important fingers, like the thumb and
forefingers and they are impossible to heal. Every pine needle finds its
way to that precise opening and festers the cut again.
Very hard to type with those splits , not to mention every other task a
florist has to do. I do bag balm at night and the throbbing will stop by
morning. But, once the day starts the splits split open again.
Any ideas?

We use derma guard skin protector, which I bought of intenet, to protect or if already have splits use 'lotil cream' which does work. Used to dread winter as I always got really painful hands now have no problems.

I use gloves as much as possible, there are tasks that you just cant use gloves . Try Thera Neem Cream it heals just about any skin irritation in no time. Available at most health food stores I purchased mine at Vitamin Cottage.

Thanks for posting this information. My wife has had an ongoing episode of itchy, cracked, bleeding pained fingers for about two months. She tried various things, after the fact, and the condition is better, but still present. It was bad enough to make both of us miserable. I'll get her to try some of these things listed.

I superglue my fingers back together. I'm serious.

and on days off it's neosporin and bandaids, my hands are always a mess and always look dirty.
Comes with the territory.

I bet your problem is caused from alstroemeria.

My fingers used to split and bleed, esp. every winter dermatologist--my diagnosed it as contact dermatitis caused by all the water, detergent, chemicals; not to mention thorns, pine needles, etc. Have used Neutrogena "Norwegian Formula" Hand Cream for 20 years. I tell everyone about it--it is just the BEST, better than anything I have tried, including what the Dr. prescribed!

It is not a "quick fix" but keep one by the sink and another in your purse, and put a little dab on and rub it in well, all throughout the day, esp. immed. after washing your hands while they are still slightly damp. I guarantee you'll see results in a week or so. Meanwhile use the liquid bandage too, until the little splits heal. I have not had one cut or split finger since I started using it 20+ years ago, and it smells great too!

I bet your problem is caused from alstroemeria.

and if that is the problem, use anti-fungal ointment. like athletes foot, jock itch,

Clotrimazole is the active ingredient that makes the problem go away.

We swear by A&D Ointment. (The stuff for diaper rash) Have been using it for years. You need to wash your hands with warm water to open the pores and then apply liberaly. It doesn't help you while your working but heals your skin faster than you can imagine. Once in the morning and then before bed will do it. Haven't had a split in years.

I'm with Shannon. I've been known to use the Super Glue!! It works and we live to tell about it.

I would try Neosporin, fabric bandaid OR these

You can even put finger cots on if you need another "layer". I can't use gloves, but I can use finger cots.

The waterblock plus bandages stay on REALLY well. Try them. They are a stretchy rubber-latex material.

WATER BLOCK PLUS® Bandages
100% Waterproof - even when wet, unique pliable material stays securely in place shielding out water, dirt and germs.

I am a redneck... work time I use duct tape... waterproof, tough... works well holds in the skin's moisture, cuts heal... cheap... (one of my staff got me a sign... you might be a redneck if... :)

badger or bag balm or petrocarbo salve at night with a bandaid..

I have hands like a lumberjack - rough and tough - comes with the business I think.
