Another thread got me thinking of all the keepsake containers I've seen over the years.

So I thought it would be fun to blow off some collective steam and finish this sentence....

The ugliest Keepsake container I ever saw was____________.

I can vividly remember a plastic vase/ paper holder for secretaries day, back when they still called it secretaries day.. It was so gross.

That gawd awful TF valentines thing with the "singing" cupid... made my ears bleed.

Off the subject sorry but recently someone gave us a box of old vases. (We love getting them) In it was a green glass vase with the imprint on the bottom of FTD 1979. It is sad but I remember using those ugly green glass vases. And yes I was a florist is 1979.

I was not a member, but how about the stuffed bear with wood feet, on a plastic tree trunk vase?

HERO sent me one as a joke one time...

I'm not familiar with that one, but it sounds glorious in its hidiosity. ;)

OMG I do so remember that one..... LOL

back in '74 (just took over the shop) there were the Napco Ladies Head vases! Thought those were dumb but guess what, they're worth lots of $$ these days ...... I wonder if I have any in the loft over the old shop??????

I seem to recall some ugly tissue dispensers many moons ago. I have to say that the more recent Barcalounger Bouquet was good for a few laughs at TF expense!

Hey.....I bought a bunch of those at half price.....put in one beer, corn nuts, peanuts, and beef jerky in them.....sold them all for Father Day and Bosses Day!!!

The WORST one I EVER saw was an old FTD plastic lunch bag for secretaries day........followed by that TF paisley purple bear that had that god-awful potpourri scent.........We called him StinkyBear..............and that dam' TF "Twirling Tunes" for Valentines. It was this paper victorian cupid thing wrapped around a music box that was sussposed to spin around on this plastic stick.......It did not spin and made the most ear-aching tinny, music I have ever heard.

Rick that's the one I was talking about... bloody ears and all. ;) It was awful.

There was one other keepsake that was just awful.....FTD had it.......for Christmas. It was a silvertone nutcracker.......that was in this bright.....and I mean BRIGHT red plastic guard shack house of a thing. It wasn't even a real nutcracker.......just a silvertone figurine of a nutcracker.

Now, TF actually had a cool nutcracker theme keepsake..........that I liked and sold the heck out of......it was a tall ceramic nutcracker cappucino/latte mug. Had this little storybook of the nutcracker with it. I still have one in my house and it makes a great coffee mug.....even after years of being in the washed in the dishwasher......It has stayed colorfast and perfect.

Worst. Evah. ......... Teleflora's Twirling Tunes. It had a stick with Valentine's Day images that spun around on top and played 'Let Me Call You Sweetheart' but the 'music' (was one of those cheap, high-pitched single tone sounds) was so bad that people begged us to turn it off. I was giving sales clerk's $5 cash bounties just to try and move them.

OTOH, I still have one of the old TF strawberry colanders (early '80's?) hanging around in my kitchen.

The reason WSs promote containers is that even with flower substitutions (and let's face it, there are many - mostly because they all over-use the same flower selections) the promo piece can carry the day and make consumers happy.

The idea of codified containers is a good one. It's just the costs these days - plus the unrealistic recipes - leave little to no profit for all the work.

Ok,

I'll admit it- I have an old TF copper colander and I think it was TF that had a ceramic crock thing that set inside a copper ring thing...I still have that and actually use it. I bake my "sweet potato yum" for Thanksgiving and Christmas and put it in the copper ring and serve it up just like that!

MAYBE that's the problem with the keepsakes af recent! The keepsake needs to be ACTUALLY USEFUL after the fact!

NO more dust collectors!! No more just flat out stupidness.
