Laugh of the Day

I wholeheartedly agree with you! :damien Off with their heads! Makes me crazy!

We got our laugh of the day, our favorite florist in the Niagara area sent us an order this morning. Order going to "All Around Arrangement in a basket with a handle. Shades of pink...."

:hammer: I don't know what they're added to the coffee there, but I'll have what they're having. :hammer:

I think people are just too d@mn lazy to bother to look up the codifications or to send orders properly. I have to reject several orders because the sending florist didn't bother to find out whether we were carrying a special or what our minimums were. These were orders transmitted by the Dove - where finding out is a mouse-click away.

New Twit of the Day

We got an order from a ex-NHLer/former Saultite who currently is in Florida (yea, you can see where this is going right?)... they called their local shop and wanted to order a gourmet basket for delivery in Toronto (wait for it)... and the florist in Florida said they couldn't do it because the whole food crossing the border issue. After scraping their chin off the floor - they called us and asked if we could get a basket sent to Toronto - sure, no problem.

Food. Crossing the border. :boggles: On a wire order. :boggles:

Got one from my favorite - LovinBlooms

Sent for less $ than the price of the one on any of his websites - PLUS they charge an $8.95 'service' fee. Total fees, commissions and rebate they earned on this sale - $27.

Had we filled it, with the COGS, labor, and delivery expenses, receiving fee, etc... we would have had less than $11 to cover overhead after expenses.

This is just plain WRONG.

Ditto on the .com orders, are people cheap or are we getting ripped off?
Have not received one order over $44.99 from .com and all are calling for lilies, mixed with roses added etc. Something wrong here. I know our town is in a deep depression but according to the "Pres" the economy is booming??

BOSS say's he is making Big Dollars on Da Dot?

Hummm....ain't that right Mark? didn't you say that the Dot is higher in value on those orders that you fill?

:bloomz: Kind of like saying I have a dream?
Wake up people...please?

I can't complain on 95% of the .com orders from FTD - the value is there. We didn't sign on to the medium length rose special but got orders from it. This is the first time we've ever had a problem. For us, the orders are usually $10 to $15 more than florist generated orders.

*shrugs*

I just don't know anymore Audra...filling orders for anyone but someone with a credit card is hazardest to ones bottom line?

Oh heck...I need to keep my mouth shut.

Yep and like Audra, they are on average higher than "Florist generated" orders.

Of course the orders I generate are higher yet, but with the way things are in the biz right now, if the order can be done profitably then we'll do it, as long as the shop is not on the skimmerscammer list, and I do not consider Da Dot to be that, they make no bones about what they are doing.

The industry as we all know has changed a great deal in the last year or two, folks need to get over the ways of the past, cuz they are never to return, and if you want to remain strong, and in control of your market, ya have to do things differently....

With the coming changes at TF (I know you don;t care Mike, this is for everyone else) this fall, we are going to see another war break out, and perhaps then, the industry will again morph into another type of monster....

But if you give that order to another florist, won't they think you are skimming if they go to your website and see it for more money than you gave them?

That brings up the old question, I sell a dozen long-stemmed roses for $75 and you sell them for $55 because of lower rent, taxes, payroll, etc., etc.. If I give you an order for a dozen long-stemmed roses for $55, I'm a cheating you out of $20?

if you're giving the receiving shop $20 more, they should have brains enough to put it in a nicer vase, use nicer greens, better filler, etc

most just pocket the difference... Also, you keep one price and thats it...are you supposed to call every shop to find out how much their roses are??? Well maybe those of you that send out 3 orders a month.. but when you're sending hundreds, its very very time consuming.
