Survey for Teleflora

Since there are a million different definitions of OGs and dOGs(the term I coined to help us better understand this mess years ago), I have made it simple for me. Below are my definitions of an OG, dOG. Some hate it some have adopted it.

Anyone gathering orders online is an OG. Some florists are OGs. Did you gather and order online? OG. - A certain group on this forum has turned, what I think is an acceptable term for florists to evolve "OG' into taboo because they were jealous, behind on the time, etc... I have no idea. Good for JB (Bloomz) for being the first real florist to offer this HONEST service. Are the consumers not smart by ordering through JB, maybe, but it's the service they love. I would tell a consumer to order direct, but again.... it's the SERVICE they love.

Anyone gathering orders online that is doing it in a deceptive way TO THE CONSUMER is a dOG.

To me it's either black or white. You're either honest or dishonest. /Easy button

OG = honest
dOG = dishonest

I really dislike all dOGs and I dislike some OGs like 1800TFTD(because I feel they aren't fair to the real florist) and PF (because they cut into my revenue).

When you look at it like I do, this whole mess is a lot more clear.

I'm going to keep pounding my idea acrosss using JB :)
Why make the word OG bad? JB is an OG, is he dishonest? No. Does he offer a service that consumers like that order from him over and over again? Yes. What is wrong with that?

If you took an order online and the consumer knew you were in one town and sending it to another florist because they valued your service.. what is wrong with that? I mean it says RIGHT on JB's front page he is in Corvallis Oregon.

THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH BEING AN OG if you are honest. Why can't florists evolve without being persecuted???? Real florists RAISE up and compete against these dOGs and the OGs like 1800TFTD and PF!

:)

Ok, I'm done and will go crawl back under my rock. :)

p.s. Eric your signature is bold, sexy and lol

Thanks Clarabella.

To further my post... Do I dislike 1800TFTD because they are OGs? Nope. Good for them, great work, wooohoooo. It's that they compete against their own members and fill for dOGs that upsets me. There is something HIGHLY un-ethical about this.

The only thing that gets my blood boiling when it comes to this industry is when the big corps control the brick and mortars and dictates the terms.

BY GOD WE SHOULD BE DICTATING THE TERMS! This is BS.

I dream of a day florists are independent gathering their own orders and have a independent point of sale. Until this day, our industry isn't truly free in my eyes. I do not judge florists for being with a WS, I judge those greedy bastards who have them on a tether.

Grrrrrrrrrrr

p.s.

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

yessssssss and thats totally my point....they steal the very customers that we pay in member ship dues etc etc to belong to them ....and as I said earlier we find them in our phone books, and along side and above us in our web searches. The order gatherers who also subscribe are also along side and above us...and claim to be in our towns, thirty years family owned etc etc and they are not in our towns...thats just wrong and wrongggggggggg of wire services to let them join and get away with it.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Just opened my email this morning and low and behold, yet another survey from TF. Their market research department must be burning the midnight oil. It was yet another survey regarding mother's day containers for 2010. There is this scary looking watering pitcher (I think it's a watering pitcher) with a weird looking face on it - Yikes!!! So my new TF survey tally is now up to 6!

supposedly J. Adler is a "designer" he's a judge on one of the Bravo design shows. Personally I think his style stinks as shown by that container. I haven't seen much of his designs that I appreciated.

Yikes, That's the face!!! Thought it was a watering pitcher, but it is a teapot. That one scared me!!!

Jonathon Adler began his career as a potter.....moved into interior decoration and has open a line of Jonathon Adler stores. His 'husband' is also one of the premier decorators out there.

TO give an example - a hand-thrown clay table lamp base retails for close to 600 bucks

I'm just reading this post for the first time, I was on vaca last week.

Sorry if Im repeating myself from earlier threads, but after reading all of this B-in and moanin, why do you continue to get hooked into a "special deal" and join and support the w/s o/gs, and then complain about them, why, why, why?

Also, any "real" and ethical florist encourages wire out orders, it's part of your job as a florist to send orders out of your area for customers -- there are many, many people out there that still depend on their local florist to send orders out to their loved ones in other states/provinces, etc. -- some people are not internet savvy and you, the REAL florist are doing them a great service helping them place their out-of town orders!

Well just to respond as I did to an earlier thread...I did it cause I am the new kid on the block and wanted to use all avenues to get my name out there...but thats really besides the point...as I stated earlier....we should be able to belong to a wire service if the original rules applied...the rules we all had to abide by to be a member. The original concept of paying a fee to belong to an organization that helps us find other florists so we can help customers send out orders to other cities, states, and even countries. However change is the name of the game and they have changed....they take our money to belong to them and then money from OG'S that run ads in our local newspapers, phone directories and web site searches. Those OG's are.. and/ or belong to TF FTD 1-800 etc..and steal orders from us. I did not see the vast problem with what was happening until I belonged to flower chat ( thank You Flower Chat) and now I am looking at what, if any wire service I will keep and applauding all efforts for us to organize and send florist to florist orders. I also wish that a wire service would listen to us and realize that they too need to change....they need to drop the ridicules charges for the service they render....and pay us what we deserve for making them look good. Joining as long as its a good deal...is just that as long as its a good deal...when it ceases to be profitable...or we cease to be happy we do complain about them as we do about any service we subscribe to, even services that you need but are unhappy with, hoping for change for the better...its a process...I know I am in the process....jmho

My comment wasn't aimed at florists that try out a wire service to get their name out and to see if it works for them. That's fine. Especially new florists.

But it just gets to me seeing florists that I have known for years and/or been a w/s rep for in the past, keep going around and around in the loop of signing up, getting burned by the w/s, and then re-joining and getting the same result over and over again. Complaining about them, but staying with them. I've seen the surveys before, the ole' "How can we make things better?" blah blah. Since I started with the w/s 20 years ago, I've seen them make improvements in technology and other things, granted. But in fees, charges, new ways to get $ from florists that don't make sense (low send fees, not passing on deliv. charges, green fees mandatory selection guide charge, etc...I can go on and on -- it just gets worse and worse.

I'm all for florists sending and receiving orders amongst themselves and getting rid of the parasites! UNLESS, somehow, the florist is making a decent profit off them. In that case, I would NEVER advise a florist to quit a w/s.

Understood....and I guess the thing I see is....they..the WS's have to see that we are not going to keep doing business with them when they...thru their own ads and thru their OG's, that they allow.... in membership..(which makes the WS's D..OG's) keep cutting into our local business. If they are all making enough money to run the huge ads in our phone books, etc etc....then we are all definately doing something wrong....or we have been wronged???...by our WS's. We all know we have been wronged, and educating the public to that fact has become a full time job. I reminded my rep the other day....what will happen when every local florist refuses to do your orders and only fills for one local florist to another local florist. I am supposing thats how WS's started in the beginning....good clean virgin concept that got muddied by greeeeeeeeed along the way? Ok I am ranting again...injustice frustrates me sorry....

I'm glad to see your passion. YOU will be OK and not let the ogs and w/s consume you. Good for you!

Well those market researchers at tf are at it again. I received 2 surveys today regarding mothers day containers for 2010. I'm kinda done with the surveys. This is the eighth survey I have received.
