Anyone considering getting the vaccine? I wasn't going to until this morning. My 5 year old woke up today with a 101 degree temp, a face book friend who's daughter is Maddie's classmate posted her daughter has just been diagnosed with H1N1. Marcy got home last night from DC, was staying with friends for a week, they have a 5 year old that was all over Marcy, she called this morning, the child woke up with fever this morning and has just been diagnosed with H1N1. Now I am starting to feel odd. We all have an appointment with the Doctor today. And to top it, we are supposed to be leaving for Paris next week, @@@@ it. And to top it I have a round of mega events as soon as I get back.

The H1Ni is really starting to spread fast. I suggest you don't feel removed from getting it because I understand it infects for days and hits at a sudden. Get the vaccine.

Wasn't going to , but spoke to daughter last night , my grandsons school is just about vacant , hardly anyone left to attend , anyone that hasn't already got it , is staying home to avoid any exposure to it. And being a diebetic , can't take the chance , had the Flu last winter for the 1st time time in eons and was very sick for a couple of weeks , just can't go through that again.

Now that it's hitting close to home, I am finding lot's of local from facebook discussing it. One gal said here two had it and it lasted for 3 days. One said it's fairly mild. From what I am understanding, it's people who have compromised immune systems that are hit hard. Plus I understand that back to back flu's are the ones that are dangerous.

It has an incubation period of two days from infection to onset and you are infectious in those two days as well. That is why it is spreading so fast.
Children and pregnant women must get the vaccine first as they are the most vulnerable. Compromised immune systems also.
The mist is fine for children as long as they don't have any asthma.

I have never had any flu shots - my husband gets them at work (EMT) and I have never (knocking on wood) had the flu. Not sure if I will this time, depends on my daughter's recommendation (the Nurse Pract.)

My youngest was one of the first in his 6th grade to get it.. He is 12 - seems to be hitting that age group pretty bad... It went through the entire school.. If I didn't get it with him having it.. Do we really think I would get it? I don't

No Vaccine for me!!! :O)

I'm not sure either, spoke to my cardiologist in September, she said she wasn't going to get it, just for the fact that there has not been enough research on it. And she didn't sugest I get one either. She said the regular seasonal flu is actually worst.

But it is really getting bad here in Kentucky too. But from what I have been hearing on the news, it is mainly children.

It's a no for me also. I'll just take my chances of not getting sick.
Thom, hope your family gets over the bug fast and all is well for your trip.

With Hubby's severe asthma and heart disease, the dr. once told him that he would never survive a bout of the flu. Needless to say, we're trying to get him lined up for the regular shot and the H1N1.

Me? Nope. Dr. said that since I've never taken the shot, that I shouldn't take it now.

Hi, the swine flu vaccine, is just the same as the traditional flu vaccine, (only it contains the H1N1 virus.) Basically they have stopped testing for swine flu in our area (suburbs of Chicago) If you have the flu, it is going to be pretty certain that it is the H1N1, the other types of "flu" have not even arrived yet. Seeing that I work at a hospital, i will be taking the vaccination, and ONE of my children will also, but he has asthma and some scar tissue in his lung. Other than that, if you have a healty immune system, you should be ok.

Good luck with your decision, we all have to remember to NOT panic. The statistics of this flu bug are the same of the traditional flu.

If I'm not mistaken Texas is number one for deaths (nearing 100).

We have had tons of homecomings and funerals etc so lots of people in the shop last two weeks.

Now over the weekend I started feeling just not right, by Monday running fever, brain fuzzy, but not like the regular cold or flu. Be carefuls folks, this thing has a strange and illusive onset.

I have a slight heart problem and will not be getting the vaccine. I'm a little leary of its' rush to market. Dallas Health Dept had ask for 10,000 doses only received 5,700 and those are earmarked for health providers etc. Also, not nearly enough of the nose mist for the kids.

Not sure where this thing will end or how, but we have to continue running our businesses. Wishing everyone well, and Gods belssings!

Now back under the covers, another aspirin for me, and some sleep.

"No weapon formed against me shall prosper" I'm standing on that promise.

My mom has been bugging me to get it, talked to the dr yesterday and she said that I have never been prone to the flu(never had it once ever) and that now that my diabetes and blood pressure and weight are under control, my immune system should be strong enough to not require it...I am suseptable to pnumonia but she's not giving me that vaccine either because of my new found health.....yay me!!!!

I have also heard that many doctors are lumping all flu symptoms into swine flu and that unless they test they cannot confirm that it really is swine flu and that most everyone right now with a sniffle thinks they have the swine flu and will be saying they have it just because....so you may not be able to believe all that say they have it...just saying, everyone wants to be part of the epidemic, hope you are all better before the trip, it would be a shame to have to cancel due to silly colds and flu....

If I was high risk or had anyone in my household that was high risk, yes I would get it.

I actually did get an extremely strong flu on October 1. Doctors do not test if you are low risk (thankfully I am), but he said it was very likely that I had H1N1. It was the sickest I have ever been and put me out of commission for 10 days. It's 27 days later and I still have a lingering cough. It was not fun and I became severely dehydrated and could see if I was not healthy, that it could have easily landed me in the hospital.

Thankfully, no one that I know of got it from me, but I avoided going out in public.

Something people should know- it does hit instantly (I went from feeling fine to throwing up, 104 fever and horrible sinus pain within 1 hour). You have 48 hours to get to the doctor to get Tamiflu to reduce the severity. Anything after 48 hours and you must wait at least 14 days before a doctor can do anything for you (short of give you an IV for dehydration).

If you miss the 48 hour mark, do not over medicate with fever reducers. Your body needs the fever to fight off the virus. After your fever breaks (mine took 5 days), you feel so much better.

The other good thing? If you get it, you will not get it again. That makes me feel at ease knowing that I'm in the clear.

A doctor explained to me that the flu test is miserable to go through and very inaccurate (let alone takes days to get results). For that reason, most doctors will not test unless the person's health is at risk or there is a very high risk person in the house.

There is no flu shots around here to get... I have asthma, so does my son. My mother is 82, she hasn't been able to get one either.

That is odd about the test being awful to go through...when I have been tested for flu it is just a swap in the back of your nose. Makes you gag but no big deal, and my office always has the results within minutes, like 20 minutes.

Problem is most labs are not set up for a quick response, the CDC is processing most of the actual acute testing and results are then dispatched to the hospital or office the swab came from.

Well hell, both Marcy and Maddie have tested positive. i don't understand the whole testing thing. Maddie was tested with the nasal swab. Positive for the flu virus. But how do they conclude it's the H1N1 strain??

Now I'm starting to get a nasal burn and cough.

I had a customer call yesterday and want us to deliver to a lady who had the H1N1 along with two of her small children. I was hesitant but luckily when I called to tell her we were coming out she said "leave it on the porch, do not come near the door!" before I had to suggest us leaving it on the porch! Scary! I am paying alot of attention to deliveries
who have GWS cards! Anyone else with the problem?
