Sympathy Design

After seeing the Casket peice being built on an ironing board - I wonder how many of us are going to rush out and pick one up.

The versatility of that table is incredible.

Sturdy enough to design a double brick saddle on, Can hold arrangements for delivery, can function as an emergency wrap table, just to name a few......The uses for that little peice of equipment are many indeed.

The other thing that is nice is that they can be height adjustable.....so that a shorter designer can set the table to his or her ideal height and a taller designer can adjust the board to suit their height as well.

When folded, easily stood on end and tucked into a slim space for storage until needed.

I encourage you to get and keep a couple of ironing boards for your shop.....You'll find a myriad of uses for them too.

Awesome Rick. Looked like a lot of fun to make. They turned out wonderful, good job. I was going to ask if you spend time with a exacto and a sheet of foam board, but I'm glad I read the threads.

gee thanks for the iron board tip!!!!! we have 4 of them around we use for display (they are the wooden types) They would make great design benche!

*** More Sympathy Design ****

I was called in to the same shop for another large funeral. I have some pictures of some of the work done. This was for an older lady and the work was fairly traditional......but with some creative flair.

Also, One of the designs in this grouping of photos was created by a promising young designer......She has not been in the industry long.....but she shows great promise and I am encouraging/coaching her to go on to some more advanced courses of study and to enter some local design competitions. Her design is the one labeled - Sandra spray.

You'll see a traditional pillow and cross set peice and a unique easel spray.....they wanted a creative easel spray of all white.....with accents of purples and yellows for school colors. So I basically used a grouping technique and then brought in purple iris, purple statice, yellow genistra, and yellow vikon pompons.

Ricky,

Very nice work - I am almost ashamed that I know that #8 with the tire which was a lovely design is Dale Jr. who is still alive. #3 was Dale Sr. who died in a wreck several years ago. Keep up the creativity!

I would love for some of you to critique as best you can from the photo of the easel spray created by the young designer I am coaching.

She has been in the industry slightly over a year.........She did study at one of our continuing education classes......In fact, a week or so ago, there was an FC applicant who was not granted membership......I felt she would be an asset......The FC applicant was the instructor at the class.

I'm sorry about the FC applicant that you knew. Did you make us aware of her credentials and/or tell us why we should accept her? Why did she slip through without becoming a member?

I assume the pink spray is the one she made and I must say it's ok but, definitely needs some cleaning up.

There's no real focal and the masses of carnations, roses and tulips bother me because there is no balance and they aren't "en masse" either. Just kind of in a straight line.

The spray's shape is too round and it makes the eye focus on the wrong things. It should either be long and lean or free form and contemporary.

The three glads appear to be the same length - they need to descend in length for proportion in the design. Same with the lark.

I would have used the cytisus as more of an accent flower and not in the background. The same goes for the larkspur in the bottom. You want all the flowers to shine - not be hidden.

Along those same lines, there are too many greens, takes away from the beauty of the flowers and doesn't let them be the stars of the design because you can't see through the layers of foliage.

When you look at the picture-perfect placements in the green easel it makes the pink one's flaws even more obvious (to a floral designer). Nothing is hidden, the repetition is lovely and placements are deliberate. Like I said, the pink one isn't "bad"...just needs more focus and attention to detail.

Thanks Heather....... I noticed a good bit of that as well......She did have more greens at first......She did take out about a third of her greens.

The intro thread was for an applicant named shines.

As I said, if the applicant (shines) is who I think it is....I did recommend she be accepted into membership

This is the discussion thread - http://www.flowerchat.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22998

Mainly, because I was not 100 percent sure if the applicant was Sondra or not.......I have since spken with her and found out it was Sondra....I did not push the issue to hard..............unlike our favorite issue pusher JB lol

I appreciate the critiques......I will be printing them out so I can better work with her.

Out of this grouping of sympathy design......my favorite design was the pillow set peice......I thought the accents of the green spiders added just enough of an unexpected touch to take the pillow out of the strictly traditional.
