Lost a customer today because I didn't honor the TF $10 coupon. She wanted to order a $29.99 arr from the TF site & wanted to use her Parade coupon with us. I explained that the coupon was really only meant to be used at the participating shops in the ad she saw, that not all Teleflora stores accepted them.

Do you honor these coupons, even if you're not getting reimbursed for the $10? I used to do the $5 no problem, but the $10 on a $30 order made me pause.

Still on the fence - what do you all do w/these coupons?

Tracey,
If it was a long time customer, I would have honored it for this one time. But not again.

We have our own $5.00 off coupon in our MD brochure, and we have done well with that!

Don't sweat it...she will be back again. If someone fills the $29.00 order and gives her $10 off, she will be really looking at a skimpy arrangement!
(IMHO)

Cheryl

I am done accepting those coupons. The $10 coupons are too much and I am not doing it any more. I have always accepted them, but not after today. I will give them a $5.00 off in store coupon, or discount, as a courtesy, but not more TF deals.

Tracey,

We do not accept the $10 coupons. The math, for my business, tells me that profitability would be so severly reduced that it is a losing proposition.

Surprisingly, we haven't been asked any more this year than in past years to accept the coupon. I expected that more folks would be using coupons this year, especially since they are a higher "value". Go figure....

Hope you are rocking out the cash register this MD!

Warm regards,

Lost a customer today...QUOTE]

You didn't lose a customer, you failed to gain a cheap one. Don't sweat the small stuff!!!

We have honored them in the past. Haven't been asked this year. I'd decide on a case-by-case basis.

We had a discussion about this the other day right before the holiday week started.

I say TAKE IT, take anybodies coupon. I'd even take FTD's stupid coupons. If it gets the customer in your shop to order and ya think they'll come back, and they didn't go somewhere else, why not take it?

I think that I would have said "sure we will honor the coupon, just one tiny condition, choose something we already have ready to go."

I think the only thing I wouldn't honor it for would be wire outs.

I really have become more of a "this is what we can do" rather than a "no we wont do that" type person.
How can I explain that better.......

example #1...what I wouldn't say....

customer- "Do you accept these coupons?"
me- "no we are not a participating shop"
customer- "fine I'll go somewhere else"
me- "OK"

Example #2 what I would say

customer- "Do you accept these coupons"
me- "Well we are not a participating TF shop, but if you'd like to choose something that was just made up fresh in the cooler, sure we will do that for ya!"
customer- "do I have to choose from the cooler?"
me- "I'm sure you'll find something you'll really like"

Then we walk over to the display cooler and she is SO amazed and giggles with glee and can't believe how foolish she was for almost choosing such a noticeably inferior design! Pays for the order and leave a $5 tip........

wait a minute.... Oh that was Shannon getting carried away in her "ideal customer fantasy"!
ahh, but you get my drift..

Might be the mood I am in but it felt like burning a few $10 bills to me. Guess I am a cheap date on this, but $5 coupons from TF are my limit. $10 gift card to my customers is a whole 'nother zebra with different stripes.

June, July and August are coming and I am storing away those $$$ bills in every size and shape.;)

Breaks over, back to work. Let's rock and roll y'all!

We have always honored these coupons (we even honor local competitor's coupons). I did send an e-mail to our TF rep complaining about the $10 coupons this year. $5 is one thing, but $10 is a serious issue. We told him TF had put us in a bad position: to lose money on their holiday products, create ill will for our shop by refusing the coupons, or create ill will for TF by explaining why we couldn't honor the coupons. He did stop in today and offered to make an adjustment in our dues to offset our loss. We will only do the full $10 on local orders and just $5 (our wire fee) on wire outs. We really haven't had many requests this holiday - our customers seem to "get it" that we can provide better value & quality if we don't sell them overpriced, poor quality, smaller than they look in the photo "keepsake" containers.

oh I forgot to mention, a minimum should be established

10 bucks off 30 is 33.3% off. that's a lot. but 10 bucks off $100, that's only 10%.

So maybe I'd offer 10 off of $100 OR 10%... sounds good to me!

We had a problem with this too, during v day. TF told me that they sent a letter over the dove in december saying they will no longer accept coupons from non co op advertising florist anymore? We never recieved this letter, and they have no record of sending it eather. After i accepted $90 in coupons ,they mailed it back to me. When i called i had the rudest manager from tf talk to me. She said that since we did not spend enough money with tf by advertising in the co op program there is nothing she can do. When i told her we spend plenty with tf,she actually told me that if we did not like the new program then maybe we should consider moving on? Moving on? As in dropping tf? What a manager huh? Long story short my rep said he would credit us this one time, and we have not recieved a check yet. We dropped everything to the bare minnimum and will not buy anything else from them. After explaining this to our customers we meet them half way at $5 off. This seems to make them happy and we make a sale.

Our rep allegedly got fired. TF does not want to get off with putting us in contact with the new rep, whomever that may be, as many issues ( allegedly) surrounding favoritism exist/existed.
Imagine that !
Customer service is currently our rep, for the moment ! Nice !
No official comments can be quoted at this time.

I would accept all coupons, then, in a couple of weeks close my doors, IF that's your "plan"...of course, TF wouldn't get paid, IF I owed them any money either.
Boyz and girls...WHEN are YOU gonna "get it"??
Is it YOUR business??...or theirs??

Tracy, you may have lost this sale, but maybe not your customer.

I had the same thing occur the other day. Office Mgr was on the phone with a customer wanting to use the coupon.... we got burned back at xmas or last MD.....

No, if TF doesn't honor them from non particpating, dues paying TF members who didn't buy their product.... then I say No.

We pay dues to TF and if they don't make it clear in the ads that these are only good at participating members, then the value of being a TF member is diminished with me.

jeo

YOu mean they won't even take them for wireouts?

That's some cold shiznit.

I'll take them all, and this holiday even those huge ones - I gave 25% off today, they also wanted their free chocolates but I called her and said we don't have that offer.

Even if I lose a couple on it - I AM going to market to that customer.

They do it, and if they big boyz who have access to the data think it pays off well I'm again gonna follow the leaders.

I've put extra funds on many orders this holiday too - I wanna keep them customers I fought hard to get.

But something I am surprised at is the number of new customers I get every day - I thought we were built on our own established customer base but we keep picking up more.

We're gonna set the standard that they can't match - period.

Well then why do you belong to TF, you are supposed to take them?? If you don't want to take them then drop TF, Also what did you think of the TF hsn shows, I thought it was a smart move for them..

Belonging to TF has little to do with with. I have always taken the TF coupons, and still do from my regular customers. I stopped taking them this week becaues of people wanting to apply them on small orders. $10 on an under $40 order seems like too much to me, and these custmers are not reading the fine print of the ad. Speaking of the ad, if you don't pay TF's very high rate for these ads, they do not honor your reimbursement of their coupon.

TF gets plenty of my money, and I answer all the surveys, and not once did I see them ask me if a $10 coupon was beneficial.

You don't have to deal in coupons to be part of TF. If TF was really worried about consumer savings, they would lower the price of the containers and get some serious cost control on shipping for their products.

But I hate to say this, TF did a great thing this week with the HSN thing, and the flex pay, and yes they did come from real shops, So kudos to them, I think that if the10 thing, is that, I think if it was just a take out thing, then I would have done it , but I always think the customer comes first.

HSN may be great, I don't know I didn't see it. $10 off of $30. 00 and $40.00 orders for delivery, no thanks.

Customer always comes first but you have to stay in business to service them. JMO
