Talk to mark Anderson at FloristWare, BEFORE you go even CONSIDERING ANY POS system from a wire service......
Please, please, please...a wire service POS system SHOULD be your LAST choice, based on current feedback!!
IF you INSIST on a WS based system DEFINITELY look at MERC"X" from FTD...way ahead of TF's DOVE...wayyyy ahead!!
Also, we are re-launching the system I use, which was, and STILL IS, the very first multi-tasking florist specific system, in North America, called FIS (Florist Information Systems), that runs on a platform called Theos Corona, and is far more stable than ANY Windoz flavour!!

We purchased the Teleflora Dove POS about 2 years ago. At that time, our only choices were FTD, Teleflora and one other outside company (I don't remember the name). 800flowers did not have a POS ready and I was not aware of FloristWare nor Flowerchat where I could have asked others. We had demos of FTD and TF in our shop. The FTD had an appearance of an old program that they tried to look updated (just my opinion). The other company kept calling and calling 2 or 3 times a day which gave me the feeling that they were desperate for a sale. Based on a number of things, we decided to go with TF.

We really like our DovePOS. It has really freed up my business partner from having to manually type every sale in (we used to have to hand write everything). Since we are a really small shop, we do not need all their modules. We did, however, purchase the accounting and marketing modules because it was on special for 50% off so we didn't pay retail price for them.

As a small shop, the Dove fits our needs. Does it do everything? No, it doesn't. I think it is because their software designers don't work in retail and have no idea what is really needed and not needed (which I think is the case with alot of systems). For example, it would be great if there was a place that you could enter information on the back of the card and little things like that.

If I were you, I would make a list of all the things you would like your POS system to do for you. Start with what you won't live without and the things you would like it to have but is not necessary. Have demos from everyone that has a POS system (FloristWare, TF, 800flowers, etc), even the companies that have generic ones (not florist specific) like software programs and credit card processors (only the trusted ones!!). Maybe you need the accounting but prefer hand written cards, etc. Every business is different.

After you have done your list, research, and seen demos, then decide what is right for you.

Hope this helps!

I have EAGLE POS and I couldn't stay in business without a POS, I just wish Teleflora would do more for updating their technology.....Kind of like buying a car and driving it off of the lot....not worth as much by the time you end up paying for it.....Lynne Moss

Please take a look at floristware, I use it and really like it. You can download a free trial version at their website,
http://www.floristware.com . It's very affordable, no extra modules or equipment to buy and very easy to use. They update the system regularly so it continually improves!

When we bought our shop one of the things that the ex owner did was include the computer with the purchase of the business.

We found out later that our Teleflora Statement inlcuded a payment for the computer so we ended paying double for it. Not a big deal however if we wanted to we could of gone back to our broker and told them the owners needed to reemburse us for the system that they didn't own.

Just something to think about.

Lawsuit for slander. I was contacted by a group of people who had problems, they were from all over the U.S. A., had trouble with the system and ask me to join in.
I suggest everyone who calls support ask for a certain person and build a relationship with them. A "cubical kid" will tell you the truth. This system was sold running off a disk, not live software. I didn't pay for it for a year. I wish I had a stage and mike.
I have a story to tell.

I don't see how they could sue for slander...if opinions on products were illegal in anyway, I would guess that Consumer Reports magazine would have been sued out of business by now. As a user of their product I would think that in the grand ole USA it would be perfectly legal to voice an opinion about that product. I would guess that as usual, the wire service is playing scary giant to get you to conform with their ridiculous ideals.

Further, the defense to slander is to show that the statement published or communicated is true. If what you are saying about the pos system is true as to defects or it's effectiveness they don't have a case.

We are using Teleflora's RTI POS system. It is more than we need at our size. Does the job. I took almost 2 years to reach the point where I could say well we had it better make the best of it.

The salesman stressed that even tho RTI was one of first florist POS programs written that it was updated whenever better ways of doing thing were developed. Experience as not born this out.

I was a pretty fair programmer in Basic. I can see the programmers techniques change as he learned and became more proficient. I can see where another programmer came along and inserted a piece of code using a different algorithm. Function keys do not work consistently(sometimes F10 takes you backwards thru the program other times it takes you forwards). We have very unique sales tax situation here, RTI has yet to modify the program to handle this smoothly. I don't think they know where the appropriate flags are stored in memory, but I'm only a florist. No POS program I've look at thinks customers come in to shop to pay a bill and make a purchase at the same time. RTI like all the others requires this single transaction to rung up as two separate transactions, take payment twice and make change twice. What must our customers think? RTI uses only upper case letters, sort of 50 and 60ish.

RTI works, has not crashed and within parameters of the program telephone service can solve problems and keep us going.

I was told by my Teleflora I needed to be careful what I say about the POS (I @@@@@ed for the last year daily) because I could be held accountable. The truth,
ya think?
Tell ya what... you tell me and I'll tell the community...kind of like the FlowerChat Witness Protection Program...

Yes, they will threaten to file suit, and in some case will do just that. However, if you tell the truth, and only the truth there is little chance, especially if there are others having the same issues...

BOSS<<<been threatened with suits several times, one apology from me, and the rest never amounted to anything (in the case of the apology, I was wrong)

Issue is that Payments work in the Accounts Receivable side and purchases are in the Sales Module side of every system...It's been that way on every system (5) I have run in my store...customers seem to understand, and besides they only have to write one check anyway...

Upper case works for me, saves the keystrokes and the eyes...our sofware converts to upper and lower case as needed for printing...

And thats what they are afraid of. Class action law suit.

Yes, We've had it 1 yr this month. It's not bad, a few quirks that we had to get used to (we had Eagle). Eagle did a lot more, the POS is more simplified. but, there are a lot of problems with the billing that we had to work around with the bookkeeper. Also at the front pos register, the reciept prints slow and usually have completed the transaction with the customer in front of you and we would still be waiting for the reciept. I also thought that I had e-mail marketing,(one of the reasons I liked the system) but later found out that was another $1000 upgrade. So I was a little upset over that. We have the delivery manager which is cool, That helps, but lately is has changed itself and doen't do what we want it to? TF said it is an error in software that should be fixed in the next upgrade, so we'll see.

To be honest they do not want to teach us anything!! We purchased the buisness in January and did not know we had to still pay 550.00 a month on it. They want us to pay 2000.00 for them to have someone come out for a few days and show us how to use it, but too we do not even get that many FTD orders a month and on top off that they were charging us 700+ dollars a month on advertisting. I cut that off real quick but be still end up owing them 1000. a mo nth after everything there is something wrong there dont you think

How many incoming orders are you filling a month? How many outgoing orders are you sending a month? From these numbers, we can roughly estimate whether you can possibly make money out of FTD.

As to the POS cost you've been forced to pay, it should be deducted from the purchase price of your shop.

Was this listed in the sales contract... that you were responsible for the contract with FTD I mean?

As far as I know, anytime there is a change in ownership, a new contract must be drawn between the new owners and Big Brother. A New code number issued and new accounts set up. I would assume this applies to technology as well and that you may have a way out if there is no paper with your sig on it stating that you will be responsible for the previous owners stupidity.

Indeed we all should be careful, not just about TF POS, but about any commercial products/services. The real threat is not an actual lawsuit (which is very, very rare and almost never wins), but a possibility of temporarily shutting down FC via Cease and Desist. Some "rumor mill" sites were in fact shut down.

As long as we are expressing opinions, we are protected. Opinions such as "completely useless" "a joke" "sucks" "never works" "waste of money", etc.

But think twice before saying things like "If you run this program, it will damage your system" unless you are certain that this is true. Don't claim non-existent defects/harms of a commercial product; that's risky.
