Pro Flowers Quote "When considering a Valentine's Day gift, consumers should be aware that national wire services and local florists use an outdated business model that often results in the delivery of flowers that are less fresh, more expensive and unpredictable," said Abe Wynperle, President and COO of ProFlowers. "ProFlowers connects consumers directly with flower growers -- eliminating middlemen, extended stays in refrigerators and any potential surprises, so what you order is what gets delivered. If the farm doesn't have it, Pro Flowers doesn't sell it"

TELEFLORA SHARES CONSUMER TIPS FOR VALENTINE’S DAY FLOWER ORDERS The Benefits of Using a Neighborhood Florist LOS ANGELES (February 8, 2005) – Teleflora, the world’s leading floral services and product company, today announced its Valentine’s Day Consumer Tip List to avoid disappointment when ordering floral gifts. Valentine’s Day is America’s most popular flower holiday, but consumers are often presented with misguided flower options when ordering flowers. Teleflora, with more than 70 years in the flower business, has proven tips that will help ensure consumers make smart and informed buying decisions this Valentine’s Day. These recommendations will guarantee your Valentine’s Day order is beautifully-arranged by a skilled neighborhood florist who will use only fresh flowers and guarantee on time delivery. With a member network of over 20,000 neighborhood florists, Teleflora offers consumers the opportunity to work with a local florist who will take a personal interest in ensuring a truly special Valentine’s Day experience.

Teleflora’s Valentine’s Day Consumer Tip List

1. Order early – don’t rely on random banner-ad offers that promise same-day delivery. Work with a local florist affiliated with a national name you can trust. 2. Roses are classic, but try different flower arrangements. Seek advice from your neighborhood florist, they have the design skills to deliver memorable bouquets. 3. Explore colors other than red. You can say ‘love’ with pink, yellow, peach, purple or dozens of other vibrant colors. Mix it up. 4. Make Valentine’s Day last beyond February 14th. Order your flowers in a high-quality, limited-edition keepsake that can be used over and over again. 5. Make sure you buy florist-arranged bouquets. Don’t get disappointed by purchasing direct-from-the-grower offerings that arrive unarranged in an overnight shipping box. These flowers require your “special someone†to do all the work and worse yet, they could be damaged in transit.

“When consumers order flowers for Valentine’s Day, they expect a presentation of beautifully-arranged fresh flowers,†stated Phil Kleweno, President and Chief Executive Officer, Teleflora. “One sure-fire way to maintain the integrity of your order is to work with neighborhood florists who use their professional training to make each arrangement they design a masterpiece. This is something direct-from-the-grower shipping companies cannot offer.â€

This past week, the Federal Trade Commission warned consumers against what they called ‘petal pushers’ – telemarketers attempting to cash in on the flower industry. It is recommended that consumers order flowers from a company they can trust, and with the guarantees they deserve. As the world’s most popular name in flowers, Teleflora guarantees 100% of its orders – ensuring every delivery exceeds consumer’s expectations.

Too bad Teleflora failed to mention their connection to Proflowers...

At least they did a better job that the other guys did...

It's SUCH a con game...

Talk about your false advertising, "shipped directly from the field" - from any one of the radio ProFlowers ads you hear...

I know for a FACT, that a local wholesaler IS a distribution point for ProFlowers in the Philly market. He expects to pack and ship 50,000 orders over the V-day holiday. It was told to me that they are packing orders NOW for delivery on the weekend. Right from the fields, huh...
I have seen the operation for myself...a belt system has been installed (where the salesmen USED to sit), forming a mass-production line of ProFlowers boxes, vases, etc... This wholesaler USED to allow the 'customers' (us florists) to roam the place at will...pick your own bunches of stuff. Now, BIG red STOP signs are posted EVERYWHERE, telling 'no customers beyond this point - no exceptions'...Hmmm...wonder what their hiding??? Now I know...

I suppose their (ProFlowers) get-around is that this wholesaler is a local grower in PA as well. SO, they can back up the "direct from the grower" statement... I'd bet my hat that the roses they are packing are NOT from thier farms...

It is just so wrong...these people are being defrauded by SO many popular personalities over the air...

When will people learn? I really wish someone like Dateline, or somebody would expose these fraud companies for what they are...

With that being said ... Why do the local florist support that wholesaller ? What if you all decided to cancel your valentines order with them... Don't you think they would get the message. There are plenty of alternatives for recieving flowers in your store. Just curious..

You are right... It was too late to cancel the v-day orders, HOWEVER, they will see a HUGE decrease in everyday and MOTHER'S DAY orders...

It's a shame...this wholesaler family and my family go WAAAY back...we actually used to GROW flowers to sell to THEM! We're talking a nearly 100 year relationship. The "boys" of the wholesaler who now run the biz are going to regret many of thier choices...

Glenn Beck

Today said that any flowers not from Pro Flowers are CRAP. If you follow his logic. Then, the crap you sell, is now going to be the same crap, Proflowers is going to sell.
Think you could call his show and ask him what his thoughts are about all this crap being sold. He is from Philly and all.

As a matter of intrest. Do you know how thes 50,000 boxes of crap are going to be distributed? Like, is the wholesaler delivering the crap himself? or is the crap being sent off to a shippers central distribution point like fed-ex and the like?

Yea, Glenn Beck would say that - PF is dumping HUGE $'s with ads on his show.
From what I was told by an employee of the wholesalers - Zieger & Son's (there, I said it...) FedEx is going to pick up the boxes, then take them to a dist. point, where they will be assigned to orders and then shipped...Zieger's just packs the roses...
Direct from the farm, I think not!!!

I will try to send Glenn an e-mail...prob. a snow ball's chance in hell that it will do any good, but hey, I can try...

Philly, do you know if this wholesaler is just taking care of "regional" distribution or is it National. If regional, then it stands to reason that other wholesalers are involved. Blowing Proflowers(cough cough) marketing out of the relm of truthfullness.

Could be that one e-mail may be blown off. BUT. If all of us sent him a little reminder of the loss of his creditability by endorsing a lie. Not to mention that he indirectly slandered all florists and what they sell in all but specific name.

Mr Beck went to considerable pains to defend Vermont Teddy bears and one of their specific limited additions. A "crazy for you" bear. (in a straight jacket).

I don't see where he would have much in the way of a leg to stand on given the logistics of not even cutting the flowers from the field untill the order is placed. Everybody in the industry knows that is pure fabrication.

The following is an e-mail that I sent to Mr. Glen Beck. I would be nice if others that share these feelings also send corraspondence to this "wonderful" radio host. It states that he recives several hundred emails daily, let's see if we can't at least double that number. Let the voice of REAL american florists be heard! You can email him by clicking here.

I feel that it is my duty, as a professional dealer of CRAP for the last 30 years. To express to you my displeasure over your sponsorship of PROFLOWERS.CON. Having been listening to you for some time now(while servicing the CRAP I sell). It is quite apparent that your knowledge about crap is extremely limited. So much so, that the Crap you do know would easily be misplaced in your Mothers Thimble. While at the same time, not realizing just how much CRAP your standing in NOW.

Take your often asserted statements that PROFLOWERS doesn't cut the flowers from the farm until your order is placed. For you to make that statement only highlights your complete lack of knowledge on how real CRAP is handled. If you honestly think that Maria and Manguel run out to the field and cut the Crap after an order is placed, then you need to have your head drained. Simply because it's full of too much CRAP.

You might wish to look a little deeper into the company your sponsoring. By all accounts, there is a place in your own home city(Philly is it not) processing PROFLOWERS packages as I type. Well ahead of any orders being placed. The old box now, label later way of distributing CRAP. Now, I'm not from your neck of the woods. But maybe you could check out what CRAP farms are around your home town that PROFLOWERS could possibly be harvesting from???

They must be some farm. Considering some 80% of all the CRAP sold in the GOOD OLD U.S.of A. is grown off-shore(thats overseas if your unsure of the meaning)

I could go on with other info for you about the CRAP industry. However, I think it will go in one eye and out the other like water through a sieve.

The aspect of your sponsorship that I find most troubling is not the purely fabricated lie on how PROFLOWERS processes their CRAP. It is more the way you so willingly disparage some 30,000 hard working AMERICANS that hold all those TRADITIONAL FAMILY VALUES you so often espouse. Many of those 30,000 come from, and live in, those small towns you go on and on about being the real America.

Now, I know. We live in a Capitalist Country and all. And you need to support your family in the manor of the American dream. But is it really FREEKING necessary for you to @@@@ all over 30,000 fellow Americans just to make a buck or 2. The CRAP is getting a bit deep and it's starting to stink!

Very good Peter.... will you be my campaign manager ?

Too dang FUNNY!

Here's mine

Mr. Beck, it is painfully obvious that you know absolutely nothing about CRAP. If you would like to take some time and attempt to educate yourself as to the REAL DEAL... check out http://www.floristdetective.com/wst_page15.html and while you are at it, spend some time going over the other pages on the site...maybe then you'll have a clue, but I doubt you have the balls to do a story from the point of view of REAL FLORISTS~!

I have emailed already. The claim is that he actually eventually reads all email.

Lets hammer his in box.

To all those who wish to send glen a love letter for valentines day. I suggest using the title proflowers.

These shows have staff key word search the e-mail for trends.(according to Rush anyway)

I would encourage all the members here to send him letters from the Heart(land). with those small town American values.

Give the man a volume discount.

Teleflora V-day orders?

I spoke with a TF exclusive shop today, who on an average day gets her share from TF, but NO orders for VDAY delivery?!?!?!?!? Seems strange to me...Luckilly she has supplemented with orders from online directories & local advertising for her shop. Wondering if any of you in TF shops are seeing more/less than you expected from TF for Valentine's Day?

I don't expect any from teleflora. Actually don't want any.(from HQ anyway)

I get peved when I do cause I'm on the hook for the buck they charge to send it to me. Especially when HQ knows I won't fill them.

3-4 incoming orders for V-day ... through TF from florists.

About double that from FTD shops.
