With all the talk lately about toy's with lead, and small parts that come loose. I thought this would be interesting.

Word has it that companies like Mattel will NOT be recalling many of the toys they KNOW have lead content above safe levels...and stores like Walmart will continue to sell this harmful garbage...all in the name of corporate profits...

I do not have any kids in my family that get "toys", their toy's are more like Ipods and such...

It's not just toys I've become cautious of - we used to buy glassware and plates at the dollar stores, for use in the shop kitchen. No more since the toothpaste with poison in it - scared me off the dollar stores, and the lead in the toys made me think there could be lead in that ceramic ware as well. Back to paper plates.

scary times ...

What's the big problem

What's the big problem Boss. The American consumer is getting exactly what they have always wanted...........cheap toys!

There was a time not too long ago that many toys were made here in America. These toys were made by Americans and built to quality standards. But the American consumer wanted their dollar to go further. They wanted more, bigger and for less. So what did the manufacturers do? They gave the public exactly what they were asking for? The shut down the American factories, even though many of those factories were only paying slightly above minimum wage.

Now we want the govenment to save us. But how can you save someone from themself?

Oh for bloomz, Bush added the lead in the paint.

Ummm - Maybe we didn't know they were dangerous before Fox?

You really think all we wanted was cheap toys, damm the danger in them?

Maybe we thought our government had some eye on quality and safety control?

Oh I forgot - they're busy on some other task.

come on

When they were built here in America, we had American laws that kept toys safe. But once production moves overseas, American laws don't apply.

And to your second statment, "Maybe we thought our government had some eye on quality and safety control?" What happened to personal responsibility. Why is it we expect because we make bad decisions that the govenment should have done something about it?

People move to an area that is prone to hurricanes and people expect the govenment to protect them. People live in flood plains and expect the govenment to protect them. And the amount of protection demanded seems to grow if the numbers of people who make bad decisions is large. People demand cheaper toys, so productin is moved overseas and people feel it's the government's job to protect them.

If this Christmas the American public stops buying foriegn built toys, I know for a fact that the toy companies will rush to moved the manufacturing of toys back here, in order to get people to buy their product. But if people still buy those foriegn toys and expect the govenment to save their children, nothing will change except that more government jobs will be created and there will be a bigger need to fund those jobs. And will kids be safe? NO. I don't care if it's Republicans or Democrats, the government has a knack for screwing up.

I can finally say it.... I'm with sfox!

And for once, I too can agree with Sfox. It really is too serious an issue to brush away with political sides.

I don't have to buy toys anymore. If I did you can bet they would be made in Canada.

here. here Fox.

As usual the nail has been hit on the head!

I agree with the last paragraph, but this one

Most of us lack lead paint and safety testing facilities and have an ASSumption of safety.

This is our governments responsibility. as well as the manufacturers. If thy gave half a crap that is.

Remind me, what do we pay our taxes for?

Oh - unnecessary war, I forgot for a minute there.

my bad

As the US is bashing made-in China stuff, China is also retaliating. We recently shipped a brick-oven to China (we run a pizzeria over there). The Chinese custom is demanding an official fire-safety compliance document (called "3 C" in China) from the US manufacturer, who doesn't have it.

The thing is that Chinese authority never asked for such a thing in the past, according to the manufacturer's agent. Now our brick-oven is stuck at Shanghai, sitting there over a week now. I don't know who to blame. Soon, I'm sure they (Chinese government) will find something wrong in all the other made-in-USA stuff too.

It seems to me that both countries are busy promoting propaganda. We citizens will never know the truth behind the story.

I have difficulty accepting anything from a governent who is so woefully anti humanity. So I make every effort to not buy goods from China.

Did you know, in Canada at least, and I have to reason to doubt that it's true for the States, honey is imported from China. So unless you buy honey from a local hive keeper, you are ingesting an unknown product enhanced with dear knows what.

As I said earlier, if I had to buy toys again, they absolutely would be made here.

We are talking about toys. But we have many items coming from there...
Many of our gifts lines comes from CHina.
How about those FTD and TF products.
THere is some manufacturers in china that are now getting caught with low production and no screening of these companies.

I think this will change in the near future.

Does anyone know if this include SEX TOYS!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually all those problems of commercial products in China started to occur only after they became a de facto capitalist country. During Mao's era, there was no commercial incentive for people to cheat, because, remember, all the manufactuers were owned by the state.

I think the most accurate analogy of the current China situation is early 1920's-1930's America, before all the regulations and laws to protect consumers were made in this country. China's Capitalist economy is just too young; their laws haven't caught up with the rapid development yet. Lead-containing paint was banned in the US, what, 70's?

There are just too many fakes over there. You can't trust anything. Americans usually have this image of an iron-fist Communist government that is Beijing. But in reality, Beijing controls nothing at local level. A better image is a feudal society that's all the sudden flooded with materialistic greed. Virtually all the local officials are corrupt. You need to bribe them to get the job done. Beijing does nothing.

Do you know that, for example, many Chickens sold in Chinese markets are injected with water (to make them heavier)? Evern worse, some Chicken meats are bleached with a chemical? It's a tough place to be in if you want to serve healthy meal to customers. Many moms are afraid of their baby formula, too. We are sometimes asked to bring baby formulas to China, because they don't trust domestic baby formula.

So if we read that LUC got electrocuted, will ite be because of a defective Chinese made Sex Toy?

Toxic Toys....

So Nancy Pellosi and Congress are going to look into the toxic toy situation today....

There's talk of banning certain items and companies...my guess is that it's too late in many cases... Christmas stock has been here for months....

If you are a politician

[QUOTE=BOSS
If you are a politician and the public is angry about the safety of toys, pick some toys, any toys, and ban them or force a recall especially during the busy Christmas season, this will make big news on TV. Will it solve the problem, NO. But, it will make you and your party seem like you really care.

What really surprises me about the Democrats, the Nancy group, that none of them has proposed a tax on toys to fund safety. They love taxing things. Remember, the less money you have, the safer you are.

Think about it. If you don't have any money, you can't buy the toys. Safety, the Democrats way.

Some of us DO have to buy toys. I volunteer for a local charity and buy the toys each year. Last year I bought toys for over 1700 kids (3 toys each) that's alot of toys. I have been extremely concerned with the recent toy recalls, I bought alot of those toys and what about this year !!
I found a list of American made toys http://adopttwoboys.blogspot.com/2007/08/lead-free-toys-list.html

I will continue to research "safe toys"
I welcome any imput. Thanks

Jennifer
