Twigs & Berries Wedding

I'm enjoying this thread and have been thinking this will be the next wave after all the clean compact designs we've been doing for the last 5 years or so.

I freelanced at a place (wish I'd taken a pic) where she had fern (not leather), freesia, ladyslipper orchids, hypericum, those curlycue black fern things-not remembering the name right now-, kangaroo paw, and other kinda wild/woodsy stufs and I said WOW now this is a truly unique wedding. It was so pretty and refreshing compared to the usual.

They are called "uluhe"

i hope they have worked now, i have attached a couple of rustic bouquets for you to look at. Not sure if this is what you mean but thought i would add them anyway. The sunflower one is a shower bouquet and did really look nice, photo does not give it justice.

I really like the sunflower one, that's a style I really like, lots of thingies coming out and giving it movement and texture.

The white bouquet, what is that little clustery white flower you have in there?

Trish

tuberose, thanks for your comments, its called euphorbia. Really milky stems and very sticky and a pita to work with but worked in this..

Palms, those are gorgeous!

Palms, how do you treat the ends of the euphorbia? I've heard of boiling water and flame. Do you seal them somehow to prevent the milk from flowing out? I have it in my yard and love to add it to bouquets, but not sure how to stop that flow.

We used tweedia recently for a bridal bouquet and they did the same thing was sticky and messy.

Basicly Robin, it's the shoots of ferns. There are some giant ones called Kakuma...
I love those!

Yes the wedding is Sept 20th. For me that is not enough time. I've been emailing this bride back and forth and gave a final price. More than she thought but understands because of flowers SHE choose. Making changes now and asking about ranunculous. Wholesaler said not good in Sept so glad of that as I just won't let her change the whole thing at this point. Her mom is coming in tomorrow to pay in full. Worst wedding experience in my whole 28 years.

I'm sure it's because I am a planner and do everything ahead. My husband and I are both very early to everything we go to. I used to do the mother and daughter banquets at church and had everything planned months in advance, the work delegated, all the details thought out, etc. So this aloof bride and I do not mix.

I've received tons of ideas and advice in this thread and am forever grateful. Still do not feel like I know what I am doing since we don't work with pretty much most of the flowers and things mentioned here and that the bride wants.

patty...

It's really no different than the alstro, roses, etc.

I think you have worried yourself over nothing really..

don't sweat it, it will be fine.

Thank you for the encouragement - I did truly need it! If I remember to take pictures I will post them - I'm pretty sure anyway! :hippy2:

I talked with the bride on the phone a little while ago and I feel a lot better. I know more what she is looking for. I asked her to describe to me what she pictures for her bouquet in her mind. She has no image - she keeps saying she has no flower sense. She expressed her fears and worries about how it could appear and I feel a lot more confident that I can pull this off.

I have to remember that in all of our 28 years we have NEVER had a complaint on wedding flowers.

Tomorrow is my birthday and I get the day off. My mom and husband (Neal) will be working together all day - they do that every Tue & Th am from 9-1 on my two half days off. They work well together and I'm really happy about that!

Neal gets embarrassed because I tell everyone when it's my birthday. I don't - I am one of those people who would walk around with that old balloon I am sure most of you have seen that says, "Today is my birthday!". Maybe I will get a T-shirt made that says it to wear every year. I'm very close in age to BOSS and Navy Brat - you figure it out.

P.S. And Beth - about the twigs and berries comment - I never heard of that until my husband told me recently. I can't believe I forgot and used it for my title. So glad you made sure everyone thought of it - LOL :mobile:

Patty,

You have an awesome birthday! I've already figured out you're a year and 3 months younger than me.. that means you're really quite young!

And my pleasure about pointing out the "twigs and berries" double meaning... I aim to please! LOL

Some ideas for you - Montbretia, pheasant feathers, chocolate geranium leaves, millet, thistle, scabiosa, fiddle fern. You can look at our website, www.trinityflowersllc.com, and see boutonnieres made with wheat, pheasant feathers, fiddle fern and montbretia. They were well received.

Bittersweet and China berries are ready. We just got some cranberry dyed China berries and they looked awesome. I always dred the tackiness of dyed, but you can't even tell and they look awesome.
